Food was ok. My potatoes were really burnt though. I asked for a iced mocha but the lady said the espresso machine was off already and she couldn’t turn it back on? Ok anyway food was ok but the customer service was horrible. The lady acted like she was in a rush and there was only another couple there in the entire café! And when I went to pay she just threw the money at me maybe she got mad I used my axxess card bc she threw that also. Couple more I would like to try on the menu but I don’t think I will be back due to bad hospitality

From the reviews I expected this place to be a lot better than it was. The food was pretty standard breakfast food. Nothing special. I do like that I was able to bring my dog on the patio(I think that was the only reason I chose it), but the patio area was very small to what I expected as well. Expect a wait if you want to sit on the patio.

Steve, My sincerest apologies for never writing a review. I am sad that it is now Terraza Café because between the service and the food, I will probably never return. I loved Steve’s place and sorry it is now gone. Bummer!

Redemption… thank you for reading your reviews and taking action! Today’s meal and service were both stellar. We had a delicious, gut busting breakfast! Large portions of perfectly cooked food and the taters were scrubbed. The salsa recipe is new but better than the previous owner’s version. I didn’t really care for the oregano in the old version. Keep this up and we’ll be coming back as regulars once again!

Low key, comfortable, friendly service. This is my go to for breakfast in SB. huevous rancheros is great, ask for the chile verde on top. Biscuits and gravy are fantastic, recommend the Chilaquiles. Lots of good choices on the menu. Coffee is fantastic to :)

I came with high hopes and left with a disappointing experience. Excited to come for my first time at breakfast and asked what was good on the menu. Server recommended eggs Benedict. When we received the order my poached eggs were overcooked. It took the server 15 minutes to come check on us and I sent them back because of this and asked for a different dish since I had no faith in re-poaching. The server then dropped off a side plate with the remainder of my leftover potatoes as I waited for my entrée and silverware. Once my eggs showed up — it was ok cheese was not melted but veggies were fresh and eggwhites like I asked. I asked for silverware and if my scramble came with toast. The chef, who delivered my food, brought me silverware and asked the server to come over. Five minutes later the server came by to tell me she did not know if it would come with toast b/c it was a ‘replacement dish’. The manager, Rosalinda, came to the table and seemed upset with me upon her approach. She notified me I would not get toast b/c I received some with my eggs Benedict. I explained I had sent that back because they were overcooked. She argued I had eaten half of my order. I wish I would have taken a picture since that was not the case, I had only taken a bite before getting to the overlooked poached egg. Then she confronted me that I did not ask for a specific preparation of the poached eggs. I responded that not once in my breakfast consumer history have I had to do specify level of poaching for eggs Benedict and asked why did the server not ask me? All this for toast? The worst part. Rosalinda — argumentative and unpleasant — complained to the neighboring table about me in Spanish as she walked away. I’m fluent Rosalinda. Muchas gracias! I would not have left this review had it not been for this incident. I can understand mistakes and overcooked food, but attacks on consumers while on the floor? Rosalinda came back 2 minutes later with an irritated demeanor and told us she took my Benedict off — actually, she took my friend’s scramble off which was less $$ and charged for the eggwhites substitution of my ‘remake’. I did not use my Axxess card here and never will. Bummer.

Ate at the olé standby yesterday around 11:00 a.m. Had hot sausage and egg scrambled. It’s 5:05 a.m. And I am sitting here waiting, as I have been since 3:00 a.m., sleeping on and off, for my body to do the final rejection of the bad sausage. It was one of those, i think this taste bad… but I’ve eaten here many times so… I did notice that the staff was different when I arrived. I wondered then if it had changed ownership. Clearly something has changed as I have food provisioning fro bad meat-pork no less! DONOTSUPPORTTHISCAFE! 8÷6÷14

Horrible. We ate here because it had good reviews. The only good thing about it was we arrived when there was no wait. 15 minutes later WE had to ask the HOSTESS for water. The waitress seemed to busy chatting with her co workers to come to our table. Finally we ordered food through our waitress who seemed very racist! She even looked hispanic but stuck her nose up at us. I mean Santa Barabara can be a snobby place, but for a waitress to be rude to a customer? Thats a no-no. Food was finally ordered, and came to the table about 45 minutes later. WE came in about 10am so we were starving, so you can imagine we were beyond hungry when the food finally came. One of the omelettes came WITH cheese spefically when it was ordered without because of allergies. The person who ordered decided to pick off our plates because she didn’t want to wait another 30 – 45 minutues for another plate. The food was not very good, especially for that WAit! The hostess who was filling our water spilled the water on our table. It was just horrible. Would never go back, and never would ever recommend this place to anyone else.

I don’t like to leave negative reviews like this… but then again, I guess I also don’t like to be grossed out by my breakfast! sorry! I have been wanting to try this place for awhile as we live pretty close, and it was such a disappointment. I think my freezer makes a better breakfast. I will say that we were completely unaware of any specials that they had until we were walking out and saw the sign with them listed. Would have been nice if they could have made mention of it, as nothing on the menu was very appealing at all. My husband got a combo meal that was right out of the freezer, and I got an awful breakfast burrito. Was a killer looking across the street at the Daily Grind while muscling down the burrito as DG makes an amazing bacon breakfast burrito.

Agree with Michael J that this is the best casual breakfast spot in SB, along with Max’s nearby. I LOVE the huevos rancheros here. Healthier than many. Excellent salsa. Coffee terrible so stop at Coffee Bean or just have tea(they have a lot of selections). Boyfriend likes sausage, bacon, pancakes here. The waffle is always good. Fresh, fast usually. Weekends get busy around 11 or 12. Lovely view of the mountains too.

I went today with high hopes but I’m not a huge fan. My friend had the banana pancakes with macadamia nuts, which were amazing! So delicious. My husband got the spicy sausage egg scramble and biscuits and gravy and said the biscuits were good but the eggs weren’t great. I thought the biscuits were ok but too salty. I got the Mommalette and I’d say skip the eggs. They were like a rubber encasement for the veggies which were just ok. The best part of my meal was the English muffin, which I can get anywhere. To top it of the service was not great. It sounds to me like it’s a good place to go if you want to eat diner-style pancakes, waffles or french toast on the patio. Just avoid the overdone, bland eggs.

When we went to Steve’s Patio Café I didn’t eat my omelet(just the tasty biscuit). Full disclosure — I did taste it. Took it home, and the next morning I went to eat it and it appeared to be very moldy on top(after tasting it and it tasted like mold). I called and asked for the owner after getting attitude from the cook. She also gave me attitude and said she didn’t believe we were there just yesterday, but said if I could prove with receipt I got it the day before and show her the mold she would make a new one. But she refused to start making it while I drove there as she doubted what I was saying. Got there she said she confirmed I was a liar because I told her I put it in the fridge right away as we only lived a couple of minutes from there — but she said it actually took me FIVE minutes(I didn’t leave right away and had to park and walk). Then she tried to claim it was black from the avocado(which wasn’t black at all and wasn’t on top of where the mold was). But after 10 minutes of pleading she finally had the guy make me a new one — BUT… no potatoes because she couldn’t see mold on them. But that would have been impossible because the mold was basically the color of the Obrien potatoes. Besides — she could tell I had eaten a couple of them, and I was trying to put one over on her. Then she went and showed a big table of eight guys the omelet I brought back and ridiculed me to them. UNBELIEVABLE — all the time I was trying to stay calm and nice because I was at her mercy — too late to not pay for the thing. And I really wanted to convince her I was a nice honest guy. The smirk on her face as she was accusing me of trying to scam a free meal made my blood boil. I don’t know for sure it was mold, but whatever it was, it was gross. I even said we LOVED the place when we were there(which was true) and had planned on coming back often(true) and it didn’t seem smart to call the customer a liar and be nasty. She responded that we were never allowed back there. I thought I was in the twilight zone!!! Meanwhile, I was looking around at the other tables, and the customers were smiling in that shocked I-can’t-believe-this-is-happening way. Now when I watch Kitchen Nightmares — I will believe the outrageous owners’ attitudes are possible. Oh — and the new omelet was burnt and greasy — nothing like the very good one from the day before.

I feel bad writing this, because I want to like this place. I grew up working in a dingy small town diner in Wyoming. This was pretty bad, though. Food was bad. The eggs were poached pretty nicely, maybe slightly under cooked. The Hollandaise sauce was probably from a mix, but not awful. The paprika sprinkled on top was terrible. The large square of soggy hash browns was worthless to me. Service was bad. I never got a coffee refill. I never was checked up on. Luckily I managed to pay and escape.

It was slightly hard to find at first but I really enjoyed the food. It seemed to have many regulars. Wasn’t busy for Sunday brunch. Food & Service was great! I did not eat inside but the patio was good enough

Hardly edible. I rarely write negative reviews because, quite frankly, I rarely have to. Mom and I were looking to try something different and we tried Steve’s because the reviews were so good. The only reason I’m giving this two stars is because the service was great. Our waitress was cheerful and attentive. Two thumbs up for her. I ordered the«Momelette Omelette» because it looked delicious(feta cheese, sundried tomatoes, etc.) with hashed browns. I’m not entirely sure how they managed to screw this up, but they did. It was completely lacking in flavor and the hashed browns looked like they were purchased by the sheet, cut up, and thrown in the microwave. Also flavorless. Mom said, «I think I just broke a tooth on my bacon». Need I go on? OH! And the coffee was terrible, too. It had a stale, burnt taste like the pot had never been washed. Gross. We should have gone to IHOP.

Steve’s Patio Café dishes good grub in a relaxing patio atmosphere. I enjoyed brunch here on a late Sunday morning. For eats, I tried the Chili Verde and Eggs w/a side of avocado, sour cream, corn tortillas and potatoes o’brien. Not too spicy with large, tender chunks of marinated meat in a chili verde sauce. Nice sized portions and reasonable prices. Our server was super kind too. It wasn’t so crowded that there was a wait but the tables were definitely occupied with content guests. If you want to stay away from large crowds, or long wait times and like homestyle breakfast I’d definitely give Steve’s a try.
