I probably would not be able to train successfully with anyone else. Gary helps me to stay motivated and drives me forward. It’s like he has a sixth sense at reading and understanding his clients and then adjusting his training methods to what works best for YOU. If someone were to push me harder than I was willing to take, then I’d probably backlash by quitting. But Gary asks me how I’m feeling, reads my response, and then makes my workout session according to how hard he can push. He does this for every single one of his clients, who also have very different body types, backgrounds, and goals. Every session is different with Gary, so you never get bored. He’s become a caring big brother to me. Just try it and you’ll see what I mean.

I am disappointed in Gary Yodokawa. I have known Gary for about 5 years now. During the beginning of our trainer/trainee relationship, I was impressed by his level of dedication and flexibility. He helped me get in better shape than I had ever been in before. He gave me the impression that he was interested in building relationships that would give him an in-depth understanding of each client’s needs and would enhance the training experience because of the«mind-body» connection. As I continued training with him, I realized he is unprofessional and is not open about his intentions. Moreover, he only pretends to nurture relationships with his clients for his own financial gain. When he needed me as a client, he acted as if he cared about my training needs. When he had more clients coming in, he publicly humiliated me. (1) On one occasion, I asked Gary if he would be agreeable to a lower rate. He said he would be. At my next training session, when I asked him for help with nutrition, he said he would only provide the help when I «started paying him normal.» Apparently, he had agreed to a lower rate for an inferior level of training that excluded some of the help he normally provides. He had not told me this when we discussed the rate in private but rather chose to bring it up in public at the training session. (2) On another occasion, he told another client to act as the«trainer» without telling the rest of us. I was left wondering why another client was ordering me around when Gary is the trainer we paid for. He later apologized for this so I stuck with him. (3) He also told me, more than once, that because of my dedication he would train me for free. He later indicated that he was very upset that I paid during the middle of the month rather than at the beginning. For several months, he never mentioned that he wanted to be paid earlier. Rather, he threw away a 5-year relationship because I paid in the middle of the month rather than at the beginning. This is after I have referred 2 clients to him. Basically, he lulls you into a false feeling of «friendship» with him by making grand statements that he does not mean and making you think he is much more generous than he is. Another thing to consider is that I am one of his few clients who has made progress with him. The rest of the clients(many of whom I have observed for years) look exactly the same as they did when they started, months or years ago. I appreciate a lot of what Gary did for me, especially at the beginning. But, the bottomline with him is every last cent, even at the expense of the trainer/trainee relationship. If you do something that does not fit in with his specific ideas(which he does not explain to you), he will not hesitate to treat you with a lack of respect. I do not believe Gary will be good for the long haul.
