It is now called mom supermarket, not oc market. The grocery here is very affordable. However, the fish and meat section is extremely not pleasing. However, their organization is very neat! It is simple and easy to find your groceries.

So I came over here while I was waiting for my order at Emerald Bay. I was happy to find this Vietnamese veggie aptly named«sponge» or «bac ha.» This is what they serve in our favorite soup at Au Lac(the FV vegan restaurant). With my Chinese background, I never encountered this plant. When we asked the waitresses, they were like, «Sponge. That’s what it’s called.» Um, okay. The groceries here are pretty cheap, at least compared to the prices I pay in good ol’ Irvine/Tustin. A bunch of dill, a sack of tofu, 2.5 lbs of tomatoes, a handful of bean sprouts and my «sponge» came out to 5 bucks. They didn’t accept my credit/debit card, in spite of them having the machine to do so. She said something to me in Vietnamese, probably to the effect of didn’t spend enough or not working. We’ll be having soup this weekend, I suppose, to go with my abundance of leftovers.

OC Supermarket opened its doors on August 18(notice the auspiciousness of this launch date?) so there hasn’t been time for the place to stink up yet. The aisles are quite clean and laid out well, however, venture farther into the meat/seafood section and it’s a whole different matter. The floors are wet and the meat just didn’t look appealing at all(I guess having just gone to Whole Foods in the morning makes it even more unappealing) sitting in the cold case all disheveled looking and all. They did have a good selection of soy sauces, vinegars, etc in the condiment aisles — one especially popped out. It was a fish sauce brand named COCK — I kid you NOT. See photo. I wouldn’t drive out of my way to come to this grocery store, but if I was in the area, it would suffice for condiments.
