This place is amazing. Don’t let exterior scare you off. The tacos are the best.

My favorite! I love the carne Asada tacos and pupusas! There Tortas are a little soggy. I don’t like my bread that moist. They only take cash and don’t speak good English! But there tacos and pupusas are a must try!!!

This place can easily be missed because of its appearance. But you can find truly authentic Mexican here with delicious tacos!

Great place for authentic Mexican food in Sanford. I had Al Pastor and Asada tacos. Better half had chicken tacos and a pupusa. Plates come with red and green sauce and cucumbers. Everything was delicious. We will definitely be back!

My family and I love this place. The tacos are AMAZING! The ladies working are always friendly, and they’ve whipped me up fresh pupusas from scratch on more than one occasion when a rush has drained those on hand. Tasty, consistent, affordable, and well-staffed. Look beyond its humble exterior, and you will find a hidden gem!

Easily some of the best authentic Mexican food I’ve had in NC. The menu isn’t huge, but it works out because everything they offer is delicious. All of the meat is well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Just make sure you bring cash, because they don’t accept debit/credit.

Tacos are incredible and authentic. Super cheap as each one is $ 2, and I really recommend the Chorizo but watch out its a little spicy. The fact that they also included cucumbers and fresh cut limes really sold it for me. Great place! Cash only though!

Hands down the best tacos I’ve had in all of North Carolina and possibly in the entire east coast. I’m from Texas(I probably say this in every review) and there are three things Texans know about food– BBQ is beef, beer is Shiner, and Mexican food is exactly what Tacos El Primo is all about. I haven’t tried it all yet because I’m hooked on the tacos alpastor, but everything else I have tried was worth having again and again. The al pastor is perfectly seasoned, never dry, and has the perfect balance of flavors with the cilantro, onion, and like they are served with. My kids love the quesadillas con pollo. I personally think the pollo(that’s chicken for your non-Spanglish speakers) is although flavorful, a bit too dry for tacos. Hence, the quesadilla. My husband’s favorite is the carnitas. We’ve also tried tacos carne asada and again, the flavor was delish but a bit dry. I’ve heard the tostada and papusas are also awesome, just haven’t given them a try yet. Some words on the salsa. Red is amaze-balls. Great flavor with a nice heat. Green is a flaming hot monster. It is not for the faint of heart. But, try it if you dare because it is equally delicious and totally worth the burn. Bring cash because they don’t take cards and try to remember how to count in Spanish because they don’t speak much English. They are really nice and helpful and if you *try* to speak Spanish they will try and speak English.

Had to try it bc we all know that the more questionable looking Mexican restaurants have the best food. With that being said, I tried the carne asada and chicken tacos, as well as the papusa and horchata. Go for the carne asada– delicious and well marinated. Unfortunately, the chicken was marinated in a nice and spicy sauce, but came out dry. The pupusa(soft dough filled with cheese and extra fine ground meat) was tasty with the spicy cabbage mix it came with. Last but not least, the horchata: amazingly on point. Coming from Silicon Valley in CA, all we eat is Mexican and Asian food, so I would like to say that this delicious and refreshing drink passed the authenticity test. It’s also in an extra large styrofoam cup, so they don’t skimp! Give this place a try and you won’t be disappointed!

Ever since my parents moved to Sanford in 2005, I’ve been wanting to go by Tacos El Primo. Something about its less-than-stellar exterior led me to believe that they would have the best tacos I’ve ever tasted. 9 years later, and I can finally confirm: Tacos at Tacos El Primo are, in fact, de-freaking-licious. My favorites: al pastor, steak, and chicken. We got 1 of every type of taco they had available, and they were all delicious. Even more impressive than the tacos were the pupusa, which are like cheese & meat-stuffed dough. Gosh, I’m salivating just thinking about them… BEWARE: They only take cash, and they only speak spanish, but they’re very helpful, friendly, and soooo good!

Excellent AUTHENTIC Mexican food. I love this place! My husband and I drive thru about once a week. Have tried all the meats and all of them are delicious! My favorites are al pastor(marinated pork) and chorizo(mexican sausage). I opt for the tacos(just meat, onion and cilantro) and my husband gets the burrito which has meat, rice, beans and lettuce. Very friendly staff! Sometimes takes up to 5 mins to get your food, but they are making it fresh so who cares! To the«first to review’ Unilocaler, I am okay with getting bones and fat in my meat. That’s what meat is. It’s not like finding a piece of glass in there. There is a reason Taco Bell«meat» doesn’t have bones and fat in.

In a word: delicious. I had the carnitas and el pastor tacos, and they were hands down the best tacos I’ve had since leaving LA. Authentic, fresh and flavorful, this will redefine how you think about Mexican food. Their salsa is out of this world, but on the spicy side, so I recommend pairing your meal with one of their big-gulp sized horchatas. There’s no seating or credit cards, so bring chairs & cash. And a big appetite: most of us went back for seconds. Definitely Sanford’s hidden gem.

When I visit Sanford I always try and get some tacos from here. Never been disappointed. They are fantastic. I wish I had some place like this where I live in NJ. If I lived local it would be a weekly habit. There that good. I love the marinated pork. Viva Taco El Primo!

Food is absolutely delicious and authentic this is not your taco bell try it and experience a real taco. The portions sizes on plates/quesadilla/burritos are plentiful and enough for two servings unless you already have a hefty appetite on top of being delicious. Give it a try i passed by for years and finally took the plunge and glad i did. Bön appetit!

Seriously amazing! Though the outside/drive thru doesn’t look amazing, the food is everything and more! From the GIANT steak burrito to the quesadillas, this food is addictive! Truly a prime example of not judging a book by it’s cover!

My husband and I refer to Tacos El Primo as ‘crack taco’ due to their sheer addictiveness. We try not to eat there too often as it can’t possibly be good for you, but we adore it anyway. Meats are roasted in house and tortillas are home made. Everything comes with a side of both tomatillo and red salsa spicy enough to make my nose run. It’s affordable and you can make a complete meal… and then some… off of a burrito or quesadilla. Things to keep in mind: It’s a drive through/walk up and they only take cash. Depending on who’s working that day speaking rudimentary Spanish may be helpful, but generally they understand you just fine. The taco trucks(they have 2) generally park outside of Las Palmas on Lee Ave. late at night or run down to Ft. Bragg to be mobbed by hungry soldiers.

By far the best and most authentic taco’s I have ever had. I would recommend the Tacos Al Pastor. All the corn tortillas are made in house and the meats are all fresh and delicious. Don’t be expecting americanized taco’s here, they are seasoned meat on a homemade corn tortilla with onion and cilantro. This place is a drive thru with no where to sit. Bring cash because they do not take cards. I tell everyone i know about this place.

I used to love this place, but I went there this weekend and it was awful. There were 2 bones and two big pieces of skin/fat in one taco. It was also completely bland. I couldn’t even finish the taco. They used to have flavorful, affordable, quality food, but this was terrible.
