The Lodge At Snowbird

Ok peeps, I am going to break it down so you understand exactly WHAT to expect by staying in the lodge at the bird.
I have stayed here a few times and have been extremely happy after I knew what to expect:
1. KILLER views people. All rooms have a patio facing the breathtaking mountain. There isn’t much in my book that can top that mountain view. Go in the fall, and you are in for a treat. You have two floor to ceiling sliders that open up to the patio. Leave them open and soak it in. Look for moose and such on the mountain and be in awe when you find them
2. Rooms are older but comfortable and clean. Bathrooms are average at best. I’m not here for the bathrooms people, I’m here to soak in those views
3. Easy access to the Oktoberfest right from hotel. You also get one free car parking in valet if you are staying at the hotel. This is a plus on the busy Oktoberfest weekends.
BEWARE:
1. During Oktoberfest weekends the hotel is an eccentric LOUDER crowd. Allot of drinking and allot of noise. This can be frustrating when trying to soak in that peaceful view. The hotel does have a quiet policy at 10 however, and they don’t put up with BS, so give em a call.
Story short, this is an affordable hotel during spring and fall (think low 100’s) that gives all its guests a spectacular view from their room in one of the most serene settings that the Beehive state has to offer

This is our second time staying here and our last. No room service, majority of close by restaurants closed by 9, no waters in the room, no coffee maker, outdated rooms. I thought this was a «resort» destination?

Stayed here over 4^th of July weekend while we hiked and did the various activities at Snowbird. We loved our room, the only complaint we have is that it was too hot to sleep. The room had no fan and if we slept with the windows open there was a bright light blaring into our room.
We loved the activities. The Peruvian express was our favorite. A great ride to relax and then a cool tunnel hike at the top. We also loved the mountain coaster, the ropes course, and the tramp bungee harness thing.
Over all we had a great stay. We got a good deal through a third-​party hotel booking company, but I would gladly pay full price just because of the beautiful view from the room.

It is 11 PM and my floor is a cacophony of crying children and drunk idiots yelling. I wouldn’t care so much if I could block out the sound, but the paper-​thin doors in this hideous concrete eyesore of a building might as well not even be there. I feel like I’m trapped in a 1950’s bomb shelter with an entire elementary school of angry brats supervised by douchy frat boys.
This place has managed to combine ludicrously overpriced and underwhelming food with the romantic ambience of a prison cell block to turn an otherwise beautiful piece of Utah into an experience I will need another vacation to recover from. Who in their right mind tolerates this? I’m one more slamming door away from getting in my car and upgrading to a Motel 6.
Nice staff though.
Edit: It is now 12:24 AM and someone in the room adjacent to mine has begun kicking things throughout their room. A ball or a brick or a human head or something. I’d say something to them, but I’d be the third person in the last hour to scream SHUT UP, and I’m not 100% sure they’re even all the way conscious. My wife is ready to start stabbing people, starting with me for bringing her here.
Maybe if I count all the dollars I’ve wasted here I’ll eventually lose consciousness myself. I wish I was joking, it’s truly that bad.
Edit: It’s 2:14 AM. I hate everyone. Even you. I can’t reach anyone at the front desk. Hatehatehate.
Edit: It’s 8:13 AM and there’s no coffee in the lobby. Four carafes, zero coffee. I’d try for a little vacation morning messing around with my wife, but I’ve actually lost the will to live. I’d like my headstone to read CRAPTASTIC LODGE AT SNOWBIRD STOLE THE LIFE FROM THIS MAN. AT LEAST NOW HE CAN SLEEP.

The Lodge is a nice place to stay. We have stayed at the lodge in summer and fall and have enjoyed our stay each time.
The lodge does not have air conditioning. During summer and autumn evenings we keep the patio doors open to get airflow and cooler temperatures in the room.
The patio views are outstanding looking out toward the AF Twin peaks. Access to hiking, the new mountain biking trails and all summer activities is in walking distance.
During the summer time stay on a Friday night for the outdoor family flick. Saturday during the summer Snowbird also has the free summer concert series adding to the overall stay experience.
When staying at the lodge they have a coffee, tea and hot chocolate bar at the front desk. Our kids love stopping by to make their hot chocolate.
The outdoor pool and hot tub areas are nice. The pool and hot tub are salt water rather than chlorinated.
The only thing keeping the Lodge from a five star rating is the amenities are not a good as the Cliff Lodge. Overall The Lodge is a good experience.

There has been one other review for the Lodge and the writer of that review stated, «Snowbird is a great, no frills mountain that’s all about the skiing. Snowbird reflects this approach to the ski resort, with more focus on the skiing than the resort (and that’s a good thing)»
I agree with everything that he said except the part about it being a good thing that the resort is all about the skiing, there are months when the mountain has no snow and I believe they are setting on a gold mine if they would do a few things to entice people to come up and enjoy a stay in the mountains when there is no snow on the ground.
My wife and I thought that we would enjoy a weekend get away so we booked a room and looked forward to a nice quite, cool weekend in the mountains, to say that The Lodge at Snowbird is a «No Frills» resort is an understatement!
After living in Vegas for forty plus years I just assumed that places made an effort to be the best at something other than getting you close to skiing.
The prices are a little high for a «No Frills» resort when there is no snow on the ground, the restaurants are overpriced which would be OK if the food was good (which it is not), and the attractions are limited.
Snowbird is beautiful and you can have a good time enjoying nature if you want to spend some time on the mountain but don’t expect anything other than the beauty of the surrounding nature.
If the resort owners had any kind of vision past the first snowfall this could be a great summer resort but truth is, it’s not so great and I left highly disappointed.
$ 11.00 dollars for a very average hot dog? you are better than that Snowbird.

snowbird is a great, no frills mountain that’s all about the skiing. snowbird reflects this approach to the ski resort, with more focus on the ski than the resort (and that’s a good thing). the rooms are functional and clean (albeit too dry with the heat on). easy access to the lifts. very reasonably priced and convenient, just don’t expect vail/​heavenly/​northstar-​type commercialization (i repeat, a good thing).
