Ate there for lunch. Had chicken Philly cheese and Caesar salad. Both were great. Staff was awesome as well.

Small«neighborhood» bar in that it seems to have some consistent blue collar customers. Staff is friendly. A couple of business guys were there but if you are wearing«business casual» that will be overdressed. Food was good. 6 beers on tap. Small outdoor area overlooking strip mall parking lot when weather is better. No music was playing was playing.

I work down the street from this place and am in here once a week. Only restaurant I’ve ever been a regular at. Try the jalapeño burger. You will thank me.

It’s a tiny little place but I quite liked the food, the service and the general vibe. I had the fish and chips, because well, it’s an English pub. They did not disappoint. It was two giant planks of fish. Would definitely recommend having a friend pick something else and sharing.

The Blue Cheese Buffalo burger was smashing. Their French Onion soup is an excellent side as well. Portions were nice and not gluttonous or stingy. The bar has a great community bar feel despite being attached to a large shopping center. Their food is better than I expected from a pub and I’d definitely eat here again next time I’m in town.

One of the few spots around here to have a stiff drink with good people and not have to put on your tie. Grab your best gal and head down to Royal Oak where you can down a few pints and play some darts — maybe not in that order. Try the corned beef and cabbage egg rolls.

The pub’s exterior doesn’t draw much attention, but it’s the inside that really counts. I really dig the wood bar, interior and booths. My boyfriend and I were drawn in when we had a bit of time to kill before seeing a movie next door. We received fast service when seated at the bar and even our waitress, or shall I say bar wench, was helpful in making sure that we made our movie time. We snacked on The Cheese/Meat platter which was pretty decent because you still get scotch eggs with it. I wasn’t a fan of the deli meat that came with it though because one of them smelled fishy like it had been placed near some smoked salmon when stored in the fridge. The cheeses were ok since they feature at least 2 cheeses. You might say 3 cheese, but I don’t think cream cheese counts. I was impressed with the bread that came with it. It was surprisingly soft with a light crunchy shell. I’m not ashamed to say I brought the last 1⁄3 of it into the movie theater to snack. I’ll take Royal Oak Pub over Pub Perimeter any day. I definitely want to make a point to come back and check out the other entrees on their menu.

Great place for drinks. Get the fish and chips! Not five stars because of the small amount of seating.

We enjoy this restaurant and their servers. We usually end up walking here later in the evening after some drinking and somehow always end up with Hannah serving us. She puts up with a lot from us and is always fun. Trivia on Mondays is good and the Dunwoody Doozie is one of my favorites.

We were looking for a good sandwich in a small restaurant and came across the Royal Oak Pub. I was here once before but only tried a couple appetizers. On Sunday, there weren’t many people in the pub but our waiter said it gets packed on Friday and Saturdays. We started with the Irish Spring rolls which consisted of corned beef, cabbage, and Swiss cheese with 1000 Island Dressing Dipping sauce! Delicious! This is the best appetizer I’ve ever had in a pub so far! Our waiter was very attentive and filled up our waters without asking. As a main course, I enjoyed the Chicken Ranch Monterey sandwich with a side salad. All sandwiches come with your choice of fries, soup, or salad. Sweet potato fries are $ 1 extra. The sandwich would been perfect with a little more ranch sauce or maybe it needed a different bun. It came on a hoagie roll which was too much bread for that sandwich. I’m pretty sure I’d order this sandwich again on regular white bread. Overall, it was still a delicious meal at a decent price. This pub has 6 other locations in the area to check out. I’ve been to the Bat and Ball Pub as well and I believe the menus are identical! This is definitely a good place to check out!

A great place to have lunch with a welcoming, unique and small environment. I have been here twice now, the first time being a better experience than the last. I ordered one of their unique burgers on the first visit and it was great. Second visit, I ordered fish and chips, and it was no so great. In short, order the two filets, not the one(or avoid the dish altogether). The quality is great, the portion is not. I will be returning. The customer service is excellent and welcoming. Oh yeah, the french onion soup is excellent as well!

After watching a movie at the Regal in Perimeter Pointe, we were ready for some snacking. Most places were closed or closing already on a Thursday night at 9PM. We didn’t want to drive anywhere so we decided just to walk to the Royal Oak Pub, that is open until 2AM on Thursday night. We swung open the door and was awkwardly met with a large work group, I believe downing shots, beers and mixed drinks. We were hoping to avoid the loud Taco Mac bar/pub atmosphere but still ended up with exactly that, unfortunately. We were seated at a booth. The menus are these cute newspapers! We ordered some quick«well-known» dishes: Lamb Kebabs(appetizer) — came with some nicely cooked lamb on skewers. The feta vinaigrette that came with it was tasted of olives, in particular. The pita bread was warm and soft, went well with the lamb! Lobster Grilled Cheese — this sandwich had won an award in the Garden and Guns magazine(what?!) so we had high expectations. The lobster reminded me of imitation crab meat, the cream cheese was overwhelming, and while I usually like Brie, it didn’t seem to mesh well with the other flavors. Not a huge hit for me. HOWEVER, the sweet potato fries we asked for as a side were AWESOME. A huge hit at our table. Fish & Chips — I feel like every restaurant that offers fish and chips always claims to have to best fish & chips in town. I don’t know if I can affirm that for Royal Oak Pub, but the fish was tender and flakey. The fries(chips) were terrible. Wished we could have swapped these out for sweet potato fries. Dessert menu is on the back. The server finagled us into ordering the House-Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie a la mode. What an uninspiring name, but don’t be tricked. The cookie comes out in a hot skillet, topped with some rapidly melting ice cream. What a treat! We downed it instantly. Overall we had a good time. We were tired but we were hungry so we gave it a try. If I’m ever waiting on a movie again or hungry afterward, I’ll be sure to make another stop here to try their other sandwiches, burgers and appetizers. I left a review of 3.5, rounded up to a 4 due to the great service of our waitress, who looked like a blend of Patricia Arquette and Barbara Streisand.

My friend and I were in search of a local pub in the Perimeter area to have some drinks, so we made a stop at the Royal Oak Pub. As I sipped my Crown and Ginger, I decided I wanted to nibble on something, so I ordered the Highland Platter on the appetizer menu. The Highland Platter is a must! Super delish! :-)

Royal Oak Pub is a solid place to grab a drink and a bite to eat if you are in the Perimeter area looking for a non-chainy place. They recently updated their menu with some new items and switched to a newspaper style menu format. It’s kind of a cute idea. I’ve visited a few times and always feel like it’s an A-OK experience. Nothing more, nothing less. Service is usually a solid 3 star experience and food is the same. They have your typical bar food(burgers, chicken fingers, mozzarella cheese sticks) as well as some British items. I tend to stick with burgers and chicken fingers when I come. I probably should sample new items, but I’m a creature of habit. I always seem to forget that I am not a fan of their honey mustard(way too mustardy and not enough mayo) so I should probably stay away from the chicken fingers in the future. Everything other than their honey mustard has been decent. I can’t really vouch for their drinks as I don’t think I’ve ever actually had an alcoholic beverage here. I’m a fan of cider and they don’t carry my brand(s) of choice so I usually stick with water.

The Royal Oak Pub is one of those places that I don’t think about too much — it’s not so much a destination spot for me as a regular place to grab a beer on the way to someplace else. I think this is more due to it’s location than anything else — it’s the perfect spot to hit leaving work and needing a place to hole-up to wait out traffic. Royal Oak is located across from the MARTA parking garage on the corner of Perimeter Center West(turns into Abernathy a couple of blocks West) and Mt Vernon — it’s really centrally located and less than a half a mile away from where I work(behind Perimeter Mall). Yes there are many other places to fetch-a-drink around there, but this one provides a nice pub ambiance that I feel the most comfortable in. A few notes about Irish pubs — they need to be dark-and-woody, with an old-world feel. I expect to see old beer signs and wood paneling on the walls, a big long wooden bar with brass rails, wooden stools and chairs and many tap handles. The food needs to have an assortment of British pub food — basically if there isn’t at least an order of fish and chips to be hand on the menu then I’m probably not coming back. That isn’t to say that some of the«pubs» I’ve been in are very authentic — case in point, the fish and chips on many«Irish» pub menus is made from tilapia — frankly I probably won’t order them if they’re tilapia. The other thing that I look for in a pub is the feel of a neighborhood, featuring many locals and familiar faces. Over the years the Royal Oak hasn’t failed to provide that to me — there are new faces, but many of the folks who frequent this location I recognize going back years. This place isn’t massive — a bit on the smaller size and it really becomes noticeable when you’re in a large party or are seated in the single row of tables between the bar and the booths lining the East side(the bar lines the West side). Most nights it’s this coziness that I like the most — after a hectic day of work who wants to bump elbows in a crowded bar? I’ve already mentioned that the pub is great as an intermediate point — we love coming here for a pint or three before attending a feature at the Regal Perimeter Pointe, nearly next door(there’s a Starbucks and a smoothie place in between, but less than a 5 minute walk). Royal Oak also has a tiny area for outside seating(3 – 4 smallish tables) where you can people watch as the sun goes down — these tables get filled quickly though so best if you get an early start. On to the food, as I’ve already mentioned the fish-n-chips(note that I don’t in general have anything against tilapia, the fish-n-chips thing is more of a pet peeve of mine), but I do want them to be both cod and not the cod tail piece and the Royal Oak does deliver — I usually get two pieces. My favorite thing on the menu is the Ahi Tuna Tacos — these are frankly delicious — rare seared ahi tuna bedded on «Korean» slaw, in a flour tortilla with a wasabi drizzle. Savory, spicy, and blasts your sinuses simultaneously — what more can you ask for? It’s also a bit lighter than some of the other fried-pub food. For more Irish pub-ish food you can also have the Bangers and Mash or the Shepherd’s Pie — I’m glad that the Royal Oak(and actually the entire chain — more on this below) is at least trying. There are also a handful of traditional farm plates that are great for sharing(Highland Scotch Eggs & Sausage Rolls, Ploughman’s plate, Cornish Pasties, Triple Dip and my favorite — the Market Meat and Cheese — seems it’s becoming more common to serve appetizers like these and it certainly adds to the communal feel of the place. Of the rest, over the years I’ve had most of the appetizers, several variations of the burgers and sandwiches, a handful of the salads and a couple of the main courses. I think everything here is palatable, well presented, fresh and reasonably priced(would someone please put their Rueben’s on Rye bread though?). I do wish there were a few more options on the beer menu, especially for craft brews and they do seem to be edging more into that directions. They do have my favorite standby, Sweetwater 420 on draft, as well as Blue Moon and what you would expect in an Irish pub: Guiness, Harp, Bass and the usual US mass-market beers. Recently they’ve added bottled Fat Tire and just a couple of days ago I enjoyed a Terrapin Hoppsicutioner on draft as a surprise. You know it’s all about the Beer for me, right? Royal Oak is part of a small chain of pubs in the area including: Dunwoody Tavern, the Iron Horse Tavern, the Ship and Anchor, the Bat and Ball, and O’Brian’s. Somehow I’ve managed to visit all except the last of these — my favorites are the Royal Oak and the Iron Horse(the former is close to work and the latter is close to my home). They also are part of the Team Trivia group(Monday nights at Royal Oak) which can be amusing or annoying, depending on your personality. (Also posted to my food blog)

So, it turns out that the Royal Oak and the Bat and Ball are owned by the same people! And their menus are the same! Having the same menu across different restaurants is not a big deal, but the Royal Oak now qualifies as part of a chain restaurant to me. I got to experience this place when i visited with a couple friends for late dinner on a Thursday. I was the first to arrive and i noticed that the place was not that big. The have a bar to the left, tables down the middle and booths to the right, very similar to the Bat and Ball. Similarity to the Bat and Ball extend to food as well. The items i got were good but i think I ordered the wrong stuff off the menu again. Where they lost points on the food was on the crème brûlée. The ramekin for the crème brûlée was the shallow kind, so if chef is not careful the heat applied to caramelize the sugar will liquefy the custard. Sadly, the chef was not careful, so i got a very runny custard. The area where they lost the most on was with the service. As it happens my group ended up with a waiter who was overworked. Our waiter had done a bunch of double shifts back-to-back on consecutive days, yet her managers let her continue working. I didn’t have an issue with that until she forgot to put in our appetizer order. With the OK food and the mishap with the waiter, my experience at the Royal Oak Pub is 3 stars.

What a little hidden gem over in Dunwoody. I wouldn’t have even known this place existed. It’s located in a pretty nondescript strip mall near the intersection of Mt. Vernon and Abernathy. But now that I know it’s here, I’ll definitely be back. Came here one afternoon for post work drinks(kinda). Some friends were already here when I arrived, so I strolled right in and sat down. As it was about 4 in the afternoon, the place wasn’t busy at all. As soon as I sat down, our friendly waitress(1 of 2 — and I don’t remember either of their names) took my drink order. And thus began a long and winding evening of bourbon and deliciousness. Drinks were delivered quickly and the bartender was not stingy with the Woodford. Good stuff. After a couple of drinks, I decided that food was necessary if I wanted to be able to drive myself home at some point. I went with the bangers and mash. Quite the good choice and it’s definitely a dish that I would order again. The sausage was deliciously flavored and the mashed potatoes smothered in caramelized onions and yummy brown gravy hit the spot. But the highlight of the evening was the brownie. Oh jeez, the brownie. First off, it was the size of a small country. Larger than Tuvalu, but definitely smaller than Lichtenstein. It was perfectly gooey in the middle and was accompanied by vanilla ice cream. If every drunken Thursday evening(there aren’t THAT many) could culminate with this brownie, my life would be significantly more enjoyable — and caloric. So yeah. Friendly and prompt service. Yummy food. And stiff drinks. There’s nothing not to love about this place.

College– for some people, it only takes them 4 years to get a degree. I, on the other am a complete slack ass. In 4 months, I will officially hit my «10 year plan»(anyone want to throw a party?). So what in the hell does this have to do with anything? Maybe the fact that this pub may or may not have been an influencing factor of my extended stay in college. Located about a mile down the road from school, my first impression of this place was«a bar in a strip mall? Ehh». And then I experienced it. I realized it was a part of a chain(Dunwoody Restaurant Group), and that at the time, the menus were the same, but each bar had its own flair/theming to it. Well this one is a pub. And I loved it. And the people. I wanted to meet some friends here last week(reliving old memories with new friends!) — and I am so glad I did! At first, I realized Ashley(our FIRST server), was one of the people that used to serve me! I love that when I see the same people at the same places years down the road. The next thing I noticed, is that the menu had completely changed. But you know, I would like to say for the better! Def revamped. One of my favs(believe it or not) was the Caesar salad. You better believe I started off with it! It was as good as I remembered, even with fried onion strings on top! After pounding some brew and chew, I wanted more. So I got the special of the day which was buffalo chx sandwich. That was decent as well! My friends then got some wings and lemme tell you what– I didn’t have one– but those mommas looked to die for. They were huge, smelled wonderful, and looked exceptionally well. I was told they were. Then we decided to get a brownie for dessert. Who gets a dessert at a bar? We do. And we were glad we did. It was hands down one of the better brownie sundaes I have ever had! So yes, I spent my afternoon and early evening here, just like the good ol days. Now I can remember why. This place will always hold a place in my heart and I hope it stays for good! PS– I am fully aware there is a Tilted Kilt in the same parking lot, but I could care less– I would dine here anyday(I say that as they are both pubs).

What a fun hang out spot. We were there long enough for shift change, 2 servers and multiple meals… okay, Tom managed to have multiple meals within an hour or two, but who is counting? I wish I could remember both servers’ names — I think they were Ashley and Amber(confusing since they were very close names). However, they both did a great job taking care of us. Especially since two of us sat there for awhile having only water and chatting — I bet they were thinking there would be no profit at our table at all. Once the rest of our group arrived, the alcohol(and food) began to flow. I went for Strongbow(BIG shocker) and lemon pepper wings(another shocker). I’m always thrilled when a place stocks my cider of choice — and believe it or not some places don’t even carry a single type of cider. Usually, I have more than one, but I had a second gathering(damn). Now on to the wings — non-gooey(yay), very lemony and deliciously peppery. They were also HUGE. An order of 20 to split with someone was too much to eat, surprisingly. But they were piping hot and so yummy, I was quite the happy camper. All the other food brought to the table looked and smelled wonderful(and it was a lot of food). Our non-alcoholic drinks were also kept filled, so hydrating was also very easy to do. So A+ for service and for the food. Also, the place was not smokey. Awesome. I shall return.
