Because this is the closest growler store to my home, I’ve TRIED to go there 5 times. I’ve only left there with full growlers once. They’re always ‘open’, but no one is ever in there and you’re supposed to call(or go to) the package store next door to ask someone to come help you. Problem is, there’s never more than one person working the liquor store, so they’ll just tell you ‘sorry, can’t help you’ and that JUGS is closed. The one time I left with beer, the owner was there to help me and he’s a super nice guy and had told me about some of the problems the business has had. Sucks that they’re having issues, but after this last time of them being ‘open’, but no one being there, I’m not going back. And this was at 4:00 on a Saturday. I’d think that was prime growler gettin’ time. Apparently not.

No one is ever there. Have to go next door to liquor store for service. Ummm… no thanks. Just go out of business.

Decided to stop by at 5:30 on a friday night. The store had its open sign on(and hours posted on the door showed 12 to 9. A sign on the door asked you to please call a phone number for help, or see the package store next door. I went into the package store and asked for help. They said someone would be onsite for customers in about 45 minutes, and to come back later. What a joke… a business that is not open during its posted business hours. Why would I wait 45 minutes or come back?

I drove from Kennesaw, owner decided not to show. It’s 7:30 on a Friday, supposed to be open til 9 on Fri/Sat. Why be in business if you don’t have reliable hours?

I want to clarify that I have never been to JUGS, but I feel compelled to comment on their business through Groupon. A previous reviewer wrote«The prices are pretty standard. Everything seemed to be in the $ 11 – 20 range for filling a 64 oz growler. My 9.5% ABV beer was $ 16.49. 420 was $ 11.49.» Yet, JUGS offers a Groupon«deal» for«$ 14 for one 64-ounce growler filled with craft beer(up to a $ 34 value). Not valid for limited edition beers.» I can buy a 64 oz growler of 420 or similar local non-seasonal for only $ 7.99 from Hop City, and probably 75% of their offerings for under $ 14. And I never seen any beer, even limited edition, that was priced $ 34 at any growler store. Sorry, but«deal» offers like Groupon should entice customers to try out a business they have not frequented before. Their gimmick offer of a deal through a deal site will keep me doing business with their competition.

Visited JUGS the other day while visiting family… and beer… in Atlanta. A little difficult to see from the street but there is a YouTube video on their website walking you into the front door… doesn’t get any easier! Brandon could not have been nicer or more informative re: the awesome selection of brews available! We enjoyed some samples, discussed our craft beer scene in Texas, and came away with a growler of Hoplanta that made it all the way back to Houston to share with friends. Others in the family stocked up on local brews and even some Abita root beer(yummy). Heard they offered a Groupon today… can’t wait until Texas catches up with the Atlanta growler and brewery scene!!! Best of luck to these folks!!!

I have to admit, this is not the type of business I expected when I saw a link for . I am glad that I stopped in anyway. Beer Growler and Hop City are my spots, but they could learn a few things from JUGS. This shop is doing some unique things and there are a few reasons I think they deserve 5 stars. First is the selection. With 40 taps, they are on the higher side of volume for this market. What I love about the selection here is a heavy focus on local beer and seasonal variety. All of the home team brewers are well represented. Second is the fact that you can sample beer. I realize that this isn’t an option for growler shops in Atlanta because of regulations and it’s not their fault, but I absolutely love that you can try beers before you commit to a growler here. If you make a purchase you can sample 4 beers. Third is an easy to use reward system. You can join with just a name and number. They then use that number to track purchases and apply rewards to your account when you spend a certain amount. No sales pitches or marketing, just a simple system to reward loyalty. Like many stores, you can purchase either a 32oz or 64oz bottle for $ 4.99 and refill it as many times as you like at the market price of the beer you select. The beer list and prices are displayed on HD screens in the store, as well as some beers that they have coming soon. If you walk around the corner from the taps they also have a great selection of bottles to fill in any gaps they might have on the draft selection. Growler stores run the gamut, but the employees tend to be very passionate about beer. I spent a good chunk of my lunch break talking to the manager, Brandon, jugs is no exception. Growler shops are an ever expanding marketplace, but these guys are doing it right and I wish them the best of luck.

Since I live in Sandy Springs, I figured it’d be nice of me to check out one of the stores that has popped up here. Given that I have zero interest in supporting the owner of the other store nearby, I decided to check JUGS out. While my loyalties will continue to lie elsewhere due to a relationship built up over weekly visits, I will come here every so often too! I’m going to have to trade in my tea collection for even more growlers, aren’t I? First, finding this place. It’s on the side of the green building next to Roswell package store that’s next to a Chevron. It’s not very visible from the street. I would say not at all because I was like uhh, where is it, when I pulled in. The parking lot makes zero sense because it seems like its one way only around that side of the building, but there is nowhere else to go. If you go to the back and out to Vernon Woods Dr, THEREIS A MASSIVEBUMP which is extremely uncomfortable in a low car. So now that you’re there, on the right side of the green building, you have found JUGS. It looks like a very empty bar. Behind the wall of taps, they have bottles and six packs and what have you. I didn’t actually look because I wanted to fill a growler. The taps are all on display, but they also have a couple screens with the beers and their prices, as well as printed descriptions on display on the counter. Now, the real reason I had to check out a Sandy Springs growler store: the sampling. Sandy Springs lets you sample 4 beers, and JUGS has cute little glasses just for this. I’m guessing they’re about 2 ounces, so you know Sandy Springs loves you. Sampling makes it SO much easier to pick out a beer. I had to drink something my boyfriend picked out because he didn’t try it first and was just going on it being a Belgian Pale Ale. I personally loved it, but for some reason he wasn’t a fan. So I think this will work in his favor especially. I told the guy working that I have been really enjoying saisons and Belgian pale ales lately, and he suggested I try Victory Golden Monkey. I ended up going with that one, and they definitely have a lot of high gravity beers I noticed… as I got home to look this one up and found it has an ABV of 9.5%. Studying is going to be a blaaaaast! They have a lot of local beers, although it is Atlanta Beer Week, but he told me that the first several taps will always have Sweetwater, for instance. This is a plus because it’s hard to find a place nearby that’ll actually have 420 outside of Hop City when you’d just like to go with a standard beer and not try anything new for once. Ok that’s not me, that’s my boyfriend. Anyway, the exact wording was we’ll have Sweetwater until they go out of business, or we do. They sell growlers of course for $ 5 each, pretty standard, and they’ll refill any you bring in as long as they have the surgeon general warning label. The prices are pretty standard. Everything seemed to be in the $ 11 – 20 range for filling a 64 oz growler. My 9.5% ABV beer was $ 16.49. 420 was $ 11.49. They’re also going to start a points system towards store credit I assume, and if you check in on Unilocal you get 10% off a fill! Of course I only saw this when I got home, but next time.
