We traveled from Carmel to San Simeon to visit the Hearst Castle and had no time to eat. We leave the castle starving and search what we have around when we found this restaurant. What a luck! Amazing food, huge portions and price affordable. If you’re around, I highly recommend to visit the Big Sur Restaurant ;)

Excellent food, reasonably priced, and very pleasant service. This is a family owned and run restaurant with truly good home style cooking. Every dish we had was good including very nice home-made soups. large varied menu. Look no further in San Simeon! We’ll be back.

My husband and I went to the coast on vacation for my birthday. We went into Big Sir for breakfast and we’re surprised to find not only excellent food but great service and good prices! I had the blueberry pancakes with strawberries, both were fresh berries yummy… my husband had the biscuits and gravy combo which he ate all of, that never happens. We like it so much we went back for dinner. Again we were happy. I had the seafood combo pasta which had huge chunks of calamari, big fresh shrimp, and delicious scallops with a Cajun cream sauce which I loved. My husband had the tri tip which he said had great flavor. We would recommend this place to all of our friends!

The place may look dead but the food is very good as is the service. Lots of menu selections and prices aren’t to bad for San Simeon which can be somewhat expensive. It is definitely one of the better places I’ve eaten at since my several stays here in San Simeon. I’ll definitely be making this place a regular place to eat for future stays !!! We had a party of three and everyone enjoyed their meal. Two of us were first timers but not last timers, the third one in our group is a regular here as he said it’s the«Best Place in San Simeon» !!!

My family and I ate here when we decided to take a break from our road trip and stay in San Simeon for the night. Sadly most of the Restaurants in the city were closed when we got there except for a few including this one. I decided to give a shot and ordered take out for my family. I must say, VERY nice staff. Very very helpful. Food was good too. My family enjoyed a good warm meal. Would stop by again if I were back in the area, who knows. might become a new family tradition.

Very friendly service, however not the most comfortable ambience. Classic American diner food. The portobello mushroom burger was one of two vegetarian items but very tasty and big. Tip: Eat the fries first, before they get soggy.

We went there for lunch. Nice clean family owned restaurant. We had the mushroom swiss burger and chicken pesto sandwich. The burger was flavorful and juicy. The chicken pesto had wonderful flavors and the spinach leaves on the sandwich seemed to enhance the flavors even more. They both came with the option of fries or slad. We chose the salad, which was fresh and crisp. We also ordered the bucket of beer as it was cheaper than buying it al a carte. Would definitely recommend going here.

We tried this restaurant out because we were staying at the Sea Breeze Hotel and they had a 12% off coupon. The food was quite good. We arrived soon after it opened at 5:00pm. I had the chicken Parmesan. It was quite good and done nicely. My husband had the spicy turkey sandwich, which was good but not at all spicy. My daughter had the kids spaghetti and loved it. Service was good. The waitress was nice. She brought the wrong dressing for my salad but corrected her mistake. She also brought the check before asking if we wanted dessert, which we did. We had the red velvet cake(a HUGE slice) and the chocolate lava cake. Both were delicious. Overall an ok place to eat. We’d probably eat there again.

Ordered a chicken pesto sandwich with fries and it was delicious! Waiter very nice and accommodating(didn’t catch his name though). Pretty worth it considering the quality of food and location(other restaurants looked way overpriced for not that great food). Outside doesn’t look like much but food and service great.

Third time is a charm. Haven’t eaten here in over 2 years and I must say it was so much better today. The clam chowder tasted fresh and the calamari and fries were super yummy! They also got rid of some of the clutter. Kudos! I will be back! Plus the staff is fast and very friendly!

Let’s start with the griped of some Unilocalies: price Prices run on par with most restaurants items from $ 12 clams to 30 clams clearly marked. Our waiter was super nice pointing out the specials on the chalk board as you first walkin which clearly lists the price. Accommodations: Dinner not the Ritz but might as well be when you look at the options. Food: Worthy of the 5 star rating. Few restaurants make you consider going back the following day but the food was slamming so breakfast be on the morrow for sure when the cocktail crows. Discount given without asking, who gives you 5 bux off anything just because. You definitely will want to stop in if you’re chilling near the castle.

We arrived in San Simeon early and this was one of the few places open. Reluctantly we went in but it turned out to be very good! It’s family owned and they were very appreciative of our business. They gave us a discount even tho we were only passing thru. The portions were huge and tasty.

The hostess Cynthia was very accommodating and polite. She offered suggestions. Clam chowder was amazing. We had a sampler platter and everything went quickly. Had an amazing wedge salad so big that I could not finish it. all meals with the rest of my party were good as well. Will be back for breakfast.

The Big Sur Diner is family owned. The interior is clean, the people were friendly. There is nothing fancy about the diner. It seemed like a place I might have been years ago and it never changed, but it wasn’t. This was my first stop here; I guess it reminded me of diners near the ocean that I had read about when I was much younger. We stopped here for lunch on an overcast December day. I had the portabella cheese burger with fries. The tender mushroom tasted like it was marinated before it was heated. I think there was a bit of teriyaki sauce in the marinate. I ate all the burger and the bun. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside there were a lot of them and I could not finish them. Kevin and fish and chips and said his meal was good. The menu had a lot of classic diner foods. The experience was good enough that I suspect I will stop again when I return to this area in late January.

Luis was so friendly and went above and beyond to make sure our meal and our experience was excellent. He welcomes everyone and asks them how their day is going, how their meal is. I asked for plastic spoon, for my yogurt at my motel room, and he was like, «Absolutely!» He even brought a fork and knife, to make sure I had everything I needed. The food tasted good. Beautiful setting. The actual building is nothing glorious, but the friendly staff and the food make it a must-stop and stay and eat.

This café is so cool! If you are traveling through San Simeon to see the Hearst Castle I strongly recommend this place to eat. The café is clean, maintained and the staff is friendly and willing to serve. The place is under new management and is doing well. Don’t let the out look of the place fool you, it is a good mine. We initially ate here or breakfast on our way up the coast and we stopped in for lunch a few days later coming home. Let me know how your meal was!

Stayed in days inn which has 12% coupon, they have lots tables, don’t have to wait. Good service overall, no complain. We ordered a chowder which is very salty, not recommended. Chicken and ribs combination is good, and I love my seafood pasta. Much better than expected after reading previous reviews. Little pricy but about average in this town, all others I’ve checked around are about the same so I guess it’s just what it is around.

We stopped by for breakfast on a Saturday morning because we were hungry and dumb. The lack of ambiance and the worst-of-soft-rock music could be overlooked if the food was even a little bit good or reasonably priced… but it was tragically neither. My partner got biscuits and gravy, of which the biscuits were stale and hard and the gravy was more water than, well, anything really. It bore an uncomfortable resemblance to canned cat food, right down to the texture. I tried a bit and could best describe it as chunky sausage water. I got a glass of orange juice that was also more water than anything else. And it was $ 4. I strongly recommend you avoid. Eat the grass on side of the road and drink some sea water if you need to.

$ 36 including tip for a breakfast of coffee, tea, and 2 very ordinary spinach omelettes. I guess that’s what happens to us tourists when we have more money than brains up here. Very sweet waitress. But I did have the BEST bottled chili sauce I have ever tasted. Not hot, for which Castillo is my current favorite. But this one was absolutely delicious: «The Pepper Plant.» I would almost go back just for that pepper sauce. Naaah.
