Stop eating sushi at other places. Just stop. This place tastes better, has great variety and reasonable prices. Generally about a dollar less than others locally. It looks like a little mess hall, but don’t be fooled! Give it a shot. Every time I come here, I ask myself why I have been eating sushi at other restaurants.

I don’t want to be hard on this place. It’s a small business, the service is good. The food that I ordered was not good. I ordered a roll that was supposed to be spicy and it was very bland. No flavor. I ordered hot sake and it was so hot that all of the alcohol had evaporated. The nigiri sushi I ordered, Saba, was either cooked or old. It was not good at all. It didn’t taste raw. No flavor. It was stuck in my teeth driving home. I have never had this happen with raw fish. The wasabi was weak, no bite to it, no matter how much the waitress brought me. I’ve driven by this place for many years. I finally tried it. Last time I will go there. It might be good for folks that don’t like spicy food. When I go to a «Japanese» place I expect traditional tastes. There are not many true Japanese places around anymore. Cantonese is spoken at this place.

For a cheap but decent sushi experience that’s pretty close to the Bishop Ranch area, this is probably your best bet. Recently had lunch there on the recommendation of my coworker. At first, I wasn’t too sure, at this point I hate taking recommendations without looking at Unilocal and being stuck with coworkers on a lunch, it’s difficult to say — let’s try something else cause I don’t want to take the recommendation from… But I must say I was pleasantly surprised by Yanagi. You really get a lot for your money here and I’ll definitely come back. In fact, I did come back 2x in a week and was happy each time. First off the main reason why i am giving Yanagi the 4 star rating is simply based on price and what you get. For lunch, I had their Bento Teriyaki Chicken with their Super Cali Roll(cali roll with eel on top). For $ 10.95, you can’t beat that. We also tried a roll(I believe it was the Mt Fuji) and I must say that their rice was excellent. Right around room temperature, the blend of rice + rice wine was well done in a way that I hadn’t had in a long time. Further, their fish selection felt pretty fresh to me. Also, this is truly a mom n pop store. The place is super small and can probably not have more than 20 peeps. So it’s not really for a huge party. But perfect for lunch outings which is what I will continue to do and go to if Sushi is on the menu.

Took the family here. The food was just ok. Kinda odd they serve Korean as well as Japanese. Although probably should warn folks it’s not authentic Korean. The bulgogi tastes the same as their teriyaki beef, we know because we ordered both. A little pricey in my opinion as the portions were kinda small. Also be prepared to keep asking for service as they won’t check on you until it’s time to give you the bill.

Standard inland sushi fair with a whooping price tag makes this a one time stop for me. $ 28.30 for 2 rolls and a beer, no thanks.

Great restaurant! I don’t eat out much because I am easily sceaved out if the food is not fresh and perfect. Well I eat here often. always fresh! The staff is so warm and friendly. I have actually brought friends here and they are now loyal customers.

We like this place. The service is generally very fast and friendly and the food is good with generous portions and nice side dishes. Our favorites include: Teriyaki Chicken(can be dry but generally well prepared) Teriyaki Beef(flavorful in a Korean style) Teriyaki Salmon(tasty) Crunch Roll(good but must be eaten very close to when it is prepared because the crunch goes away and becomes sogginess) Pink Lady(tempura shrimp CA roll with a spicy sauce) Shrimp Teriyaki(crunchy and well prepared) Rice(firm and sticky, we like it that way) Miso Udon(firm noodles and subtle broth) The place is clean and has outdoor seating for nice days.

Meeeeeehhhhhh. It’s not terrible. It’s not great. It is really sticky. I have a toddler so I’m ok with a little messy, but when you look at the light shades and can see all the little gnats and flies stuck to them, I believe a thorough cleaning is in order. Or maybe that’s just newfangled flypaper that doubles as a lamp, could be, right? Everything in there feel sticky, the cups, tables, chairs. Some Pine-Sol and hot water would do wonders. My husband had to bimbimbap and it look decent. It was a big bowl of appearing Lee fresh vegetables, egg and meet. I had the Delight bento box with stringy chicken, greasy tempura, and misshapen California rolls with brown avocado. The salad had lumpy dressing that looked vaguely like charoset from Passover dinner. The miso soup tasted like it was from a package. My kid liked it but I can’t say I was a fan. Service was exceptionally nice. I would go back to eat the Korean food, not the Japanese food, but only if they clean the place. It’s just too gross to look up and see all the bugs on the lamps. I leave every meal sticky from my toddler wiping her hands on me and spilling on me. I’d rather not be sticky from the environment as well.

The folks who work here are super friendly! I miss the days before the remodel though, when this was a small«mom & pop”/“hole in the wall» type establishment. We used to call in for takeout A LOT; good quality sushi, huge portions, and you couldn’t beat the bento combo value. Still, they have a good variety of rolls. Nothing fancy; it’s just that at today’s prices, it’s hard not to start comparing it to Sachi Sushi across the way…

This is a delicious sushi restaurant. My family and I always come here whenever we are in town. The food comes out fresh and hot. The service is polite and wonderful. If you’re looking for yummy, filling, and well presented sushi, then this is the place to visit!

This is definitely the place to come if you Do not know sushi. They use imitation crab and there specialty rolls have nothing special about them. Yeah they have unique names just like any other sushi place but there is nothing really different about by of them. There is no zing, no pep. Just boring old mediocre sushi. I order a Bollinger roll, and there was barely any avocado on it and not to mention I found a small black nose hair on it! Ew absolutely disgusting. I will definitely not waste my money here again. That’s what I get for coming to some cheap place like this.

Hole in the wall. But one of those that surprise you once inside. Yes, the place is minuscule but the food tastes awesome. I ordered the sushi bento box with a Super California roll and tempura veggies. It was the perfect amount and priced right. The sushi section is nice so I’ll be coming back to try other rolls for sure. I guess the only thing that surprised me was my drink. I ordered an Arnold Palmer and got a bottle of half lemonade and half tea. Sure, that’s what an Arnold Palmer is but every sushi place I’ve been to has always served fresh tea and lemonade, not some bottled variation of it. Overall, very good experience. Our waitress was very friendly, the food was great, and tasted fresh.

What happened?! This place used to be one of my favorite lunch spots. After being out of town for a year, I was excited to eat here again. However, the quality of the food wasn’t remotely close to what it used to be like(I was starving since I skipped breakfast too!) The miso soup wasn’t warm but that wasn’t really a big problem. Chicken teriyaki with sashimi combo: The lettuce on the salad seemed like it wasn’t fresh at all, and I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. The sashimi wasn’t fresh either and tasted strange and the texture wasn’t right. I did end up eating it all since I was so hungry, but my stomach is really regretting it. I checked the previous reviews and seemed like other people have been experiencing the same thing. I guess this wasn’t a one off. The waitress was nice as usual, but sadly I probably won’t be coming back anymore due to the food problems.

Today was my first and final time I will ever go to this place. 5 stars — Customer Service and how quickly I got my food 1 star — Chicken 0 Star — Sashimi /Sushi We eat sushi a lot, this place had terrible, warm and old sashimi that was thinly sliced. Literally threw it away after eating a couple pieces. Disgusting. We got two rolls, each of them were suppose to have Sashimi on top of it. If I knew it came with two pieces of Sashimi(look at picture) I would have never got the two rolls. The quality was terrible. We ate a couple pieces of the roll and threw away the rest of the roll. The chicken was the only edible thing we had. It was actually cooked all the way and the sauce was flavorful. This place was a waste of $ 40 dollars. I decided to get food to go because I was too lazy to cook. It’s a tiny hole in the wall place(I normally like hole in the wall places) it had about 5 – 6 tables with chairs. The person who answered the phone and helped me was super bubbly and full of energy. I almost wanted to call back and say something but I didn’t. I read some of their reviews but still wanted to try the place and give it a fair chance. Disgusting. I will never go back. 5 stars to the bubbly girl who works there and for getting our food so quickly. Literally they were dead, should have been a sign.

This is my go-to local spot. The people are nice and the food is consistently good. The location isn’t the cutest, but it works for a lunch or for a quick dinner(or takeout).

This place has changed quite a bit since I’ve last been here. It feels less like a hole-in-the-wall Sushi joint due to the remodeling, addition of a flat screen tv, modern-looking dishware, and change in the ordering system. You sit down and order rather than falling in line. These changes make Yanagi seem a little less casual but it they still manage to make me feel at home and the servers are just as friendly and courteous as I remember. I’m always greeted when I walk through their doors. I’m always thanked when I leave. Furthermore, they started providing customers with complimentary miso before the meal and a beautifully sliced piece of pineapple after the meal. SINCEWHENDIDTHEYSTARTDOINGTHAT? You know what? I’m really appreciative of that and I will continue to come here to get my sushi fix. note: Tempura and Ramen are excellent choices as well. Also, not a place to go to impress a date or anything. They just have great food.
