Nice russian speaking food store, they got the regular variety of Eastern European foods. Polite service.

I purchased food from this store before and it was fine; however, was appalled by the horrific smell of Bologna i bought there yesterday. It was grey and rotten. Sent my husband to return it today, instead, he was given a new«good» stick of bologna today(no expiration date to be found on the package) which turned out to be as foul as the one from yesterday. I am now suspicious of dry salami I got there. Could not find an expiration date of that as well… Not going back.

*** This review is for their customer service alone. I did not purchase anything here. I was having dinner at the Chinese restaurant next door(Three Brothers) and needed to use the restroom. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the restroom and I was told to ask if I could use the restroom next door at the European Deli. I went over to European Deli to ask to use their restroom. At first, I wandered around the small store looking for a bathroom. There were at least 3 people stocking the shelves, but none of them asked if I needed any help. Finally, I asked 2 women who were stocking the frozen food section. They told me that they«don’t have restrooms open to the public and we usually send people next door to the Chinese restaurant.» It would have been fine if they did not allow the public to use the restroom, but my biggest problem with this is that they are taking advantage of the generosity of the other businesses in the shopping center. European Deli refused to help other businesses when these other businesses have problems. This is not the type of business that should be in our community. I even asked if they knew where else I could use a restroom(because I figured they would be savvy on other restaurants they pawn their customers off on). All they could say is that the woodwind shop across the parking lot looked open and maybe I could ask there. In conclusion, they were extremely rude, unhelpful, and I could not shop at a place with such a poor sense of community. I would definitely not recommend shopping here.

Great little Russian/Eastern European market. Since deli is in the name of the place, I guess they make sandwiches as well, but it just looks like a market to me. Much better selection of European items than I was expecting including what I was hoping to find… Bavarian Bakery bread! Several varieties. They also have German/European breads from elsewhere. But I would get Bavarian Bakery as it is local and likely pretty fresh. Bought a loaf of that and than had a great time going through the store and ogling all the stuff I wanted to get. Limited myself to a few items(including a bag of rosehips, which I have no clue how to use). Kids finagled some tasty Russian chocolate bars out of me. I spoil them. The bread is fabulous as always.

I’m giving this store only 1-star because they don’t have hours of operation on Unilocal.I tried to call them today and there is no message with store hours. This is Easter European mentality. I wasn’t shocked reading the other reviews when things went bad and owner refused to exchange it. Because of this I will never buy anything that can spoil. It’s not worth the risk. The owners probably have no idea how powerful Unilocal can be. They need«us» customers to stay in business yet they treat us so poorly. There are plenty of stores out there to get what we need. Driving your clients away is never a good thing. Please update your hours of operation so people know if you are open on the weekends and Mondays as some stores close Sun & Mon. If you don’t have it on your Unilocal profile maybe have a voice message on your machine that says your address and hours of operation. That’s not too much to ask? Is it?

Being married to a Ukrainian, I have visited many a European gastronom. From Santa Clara to San Francisco to Walnut Creek and points in between. This one happens to be the most convenient location for us and we have shopped here a few times. The products are fair and the prices are average. The meat products do not have an expiration date on them and so it is somewhat of a gamble. The chocolates tend to be on the older side. The gentleman(co-owner) is somewhat surly. The most authentic thing about this gastronom is the customer service. We purchased a product that had obviously gone bad and his reaction to our request for an exchange was that this was normal and if we drove back that day he would taste it and tell us whether he thought it was spoiled or not. We will not be going back.

I was fairly happy with this grocery before, having shopped there about five times. The food and grocery items are okay and the prices are fair. My latest trip finally introduced me to their customer service and I have decided that they will no longer have any of my service. I purchased some German bologna, of which I am fond. When I got home and opened the package, the skin was gelatinous and white, pus-like, sticky material adhered to the meat. I thought it might be spoiled but tasted it to be sure, and it was. I called the deli the next day and asked about replacing. The owner told me he doubted it was spoiled and if I went there today he would taste it and decide whether to replace it or not. I told him that it was out of my way and I might be there in the next couple of days and he told me that if I waited I would be dealing with his partner who would be more difficult to deal with than him, easier if I come in today. I advised him that the easiest thing to do was no longer do business with them and hung up. I will not shop at a store that does not stand behind its products.

They carry all the most popular kalbasi, pickled cabbage, pickles, tomatoes etc. Some Russian cakes. They carry the popular Russian ice cream — Dadu. Russian beer, wine. Lots of frozen goodies(ie: dumplings). Not always fresh & the people working there are incredibly rude(especially the guy). They also sell organic Russian rice cereal for babies, which is delicious. I try to avoid coming here, but the next best thing is in Walnut Creek & is «out of the way» when this one is 3 blocks from home. I go here for absolute necessities.

This store is for Europeans /Russians missing the taste of home! I’m so happy we have this store in San Ramon. I can pick up my Hungarian sausages(Bende brand), my Hungarian salami(Teli and sometimes Pick too), and Smoked Bacon! They also have a variety of other Hungarian goodies(jams, pickles etc). Also, I’m happy they have Vegeta, which most Central/Eastern Europeans use for cooking soup with. And normal European noodles for soup! Wine(Tokaji for Hungarians), Beer(Zlaty Bazant for Slovaks)…variety of European type chocolates/desserts/sweets that only EUROPEANS love… wafer stuff… Yumm…

It was Monday and I was hungry for lunch. Café Attila is closed on Mondays and I didn’t realize it. I noticed the sign that said European Deli. I said«Alright, I’m in.» This place isn’t a deli in that you can order fresh sandwiches, meat, cheeses and the occasional pickled thing. No, you will not find that here. Most of the shelves had dry goods with writing in a language that I couldn’t discern. Things that were not going to make a sustainable lunch for me. So then I found the frozen cases. Yes! Recognizable frozen meals. Both written in English and nnnnmmmmm, I don’t know. My choice was the Chicken Kiev. Little Chicken pocket like things with some type of veggie mix in the middle. When I brought it back to my office and booked it, it stunk my entire office up. My secretary was pissed. I was interested in the cured meats they had. Unfortunately, I could read what kind it was so I didn’t buy any. I found the customer service nice. My small box of Chicken Kiev wasn’t enough for their debit machine. I said I’d buy something to drink and he quickly ran and got me a bottle if water. It wasn’t a problem at all. Since this was an emergency lunch stop I don’t think Ill be coming back. It was an interesting experience.

I love Russian store. One of my favorites. They have a great variety of meat and dairy products. Authentic Russian pastries and tea. Great Wine and beer selection. Something different, you can get only there. Russian cosmetics brands, famous for their natural ingredients, and, of course, Russian Chocolate and souvenirs.

Great store. We’ve been shopping there for 5 years and never had a problem. Most other russian stores have expired foods on the shelves and don’t provide detailed receipts. This store always have fresh food and a good selection. They have a great variety despite being very small. The owner is always friendly and chatty.

Finding food from Russia. European Deli is as they describe themselves, a boutique. With two aisles, it is packed with items that not found in everyday groceries. They have caviar, wine, beer, honey, bread, processed meat in sausages and smoked. They even have the infamous can of «Beef» with picture of a cow on it. Those who indulge in Russian cuisine should come for stop located in a very subtle strip mall off of Sam Ramon Valley Blvd.
