Had XMAS dinner there. Place half empty, our party was ignored for 30 minutes. I had to go find a waitress to get service. I was told they were short staffed. Food fair. They ran out of desert but luckily the chef made us a nice desert plate. Our waitress made it clear she wanted us to pay the bill. She said she had to stay late because if us. We would not return to this restaurant.

You know that things aren’t looking so great when in the middle of eating lunch you see an ad for AppleBee’s and think, «Man, I wish I was eating there.» I was sitting at the bar at Ring’s, dutifully horking down my $ 14 bacon cheeseburger so I could get back to my room and take a nap. I’d been so tired and hungry when I checked in to the Embassy Suites after my lunch auction that Saturday, and on such a tight timeline for my dinner auction that night, that I didn’t want to brave searching for food in San Rafael. I needed a plate, followed by a nap. My blood sugar was low enough that I knew searching for that plate could be costly. Even more costly than a $ 14 cheeseburger with fries. The bartender was very kind, and she kept my drink full the whole time I was seated; she earns this place a bonus star. The burger itself was average and the fries were hot. On the whole, an unmemorable meal, except for the price. Still, worth not having to drive and find food, given the state I was in. Funny thing, though: after my dinner auction when I was driving out to the freeway to head home to SF I passed an AppleBee’s.

We’ve been there about 6 times and we’ve been disappointed about 3 times. I like the menu, the atmosphere is okay, the service has always been good. I usually get the lamb osso bucco and it ranges from very good to uneatable depending on the night. I complained once and they not only sent a new dish to me but they also took it off the bill.

You know how you get those coupons or deals that are too good to be believed? That’s what brought us to Rings… and never go back. From the complete lack of atmosphere, to the institutional food, and the lack of service of any kind, this restaurant was nothing but a gussied up cafeteria for Embassy Suites, and not a good one, at that. Save your money, your stomach, and your time, and head to downtown for choices, any one of which will be more palatable than this place.

I’ve booked several company employee events here. Food is NOT very good. Just institutional /bland /boring. The meeting rooms are nice. Best rooms in San Rafael, Amazing how few event-ready hotels there are here in Marin County. If you are a hotel guest, tourist, or visitor — You do not want to eat here. Call a taxi and ride 10 minutes someplace good.
