After dealing with huge emporiums like Lens Crafters who won’t accept VSP or over-priced/under-informed eyewear places in San Francisco, I discovered Optica and I couldn’t be happier. First, they are open on Saturdays and accomodated a last minute request for me AND my wife. They had toys around for our daughter to play with while we waited(we’d brought our own, but still) and everyone there was super happy, cheerful and very, very helpful. The selection of eyewear is maybe smaller than elsewhere but VERY nice and with the right VSP coverage it’s quite affordable. I will be back next year and, frankly, for as long as they’re here — it’s the best service(both the eye doctor AND the lovely woman working up front whose name I didn’t get) I’ve *EVER* had at an eye doctor. GREAT, great service. **** UPDATE: June, 2015 — Thought I’d jump in and mention that Optica continues to be the place where I get eyeglasses, and they recently demonstrated exactly why. I got new glasses in January, and promptly went to Mexico and lost them in the ocean because I’m an idiot. I eventually walked back into Optica to get new glasses and told them my story — they looked into it, and found that I could get replacement lenses and frames at a major discount(one-time only!) … which I did! Didn’t expect it at all, and just reinforced that these guys were looking out for their customers.

I’ve been here twice — twice in a good way! The first time because we were recommended here by my boyfriend’s coworker… see unlike Lens Crafters, Optica takes VSP. Both times we were greeted by the Optician who is always very sweet and both times I keep forgetting to ask her name. She’s very helpful and tries to help you find the perfect pair of frames. Optica isn’t very big, but I think they have a good variety of frames including many designer frames. My favorite part of the transaction is when she writes out what I would have had to pay without insurance and what I ultimately have to pay with it. I am always amazed! Thank goodness for insurance and thank goodness for Optica!
