Very unprofessional. The staff here are vey uncaring and the psychiatrists/psychotherapists are rude. Not flexible with appointments either, and will terminate your services here if you miss an appointment without calling ahead(even though they do not check their voicemails till 3 days later). Basically, you can just apply to work here via craigslist because they seem to hire just about EVERYONE that works a non-psyche position here. Really FSAO? The interns are dreadful and no one is in the reception area when you come in. Not a fan, but unfortunately, because of all the homeless/Medi-Cal mentally ill here in the county, this county is not the place you want to receive care here for your psychiatric needs. This county is poorly funded in that aspect and if you receive services here in Marin, I pity you. The best route is to seek private insurance accepting places.

For those doling out the negativity, I know for a fact that this agency has lost much needed funding over the last few years to allow FSA to perform their valuable services and have had to close multiple satellite offices and make cutbacks to others. The recent merge with Buckelew may or may not allow them to expand in order to help more people but in the meantime I have had the opportunity to meet a group of fine, dedicated professionals whose sole goal is to provide much needed services to those on the fringe with little or no safety net and from my observation and insight I am confident that the services they provide are invaluable. Give credit where credit is due.

I went here for three years and accessed many of their programs, d.b.t., p.c.I.t. And individual therapy. I can’t say enough great things about the therapist who worked with me and my family to get us back on track and back into the world.(oh yeah they even have a med dr. Who is awesome and a riot) if you are looking for compassion, humans not robots, and people who can really help this is the place. They are interns so they do often check their work with their supervisor when unsure, but that was rare. They are thorough and very well trained. Can’t recommend them enough. I’d even go back should the need arise. Thanks FSA for all your help. 491‑5700 to schedule an intake. Or talk to someone on their hotline.

Sad to see these two comments and feel they don’t represent 99% of Family Service Agency’s work in Marin. FSA has given quality service to low and middle income people with supervised interns and highly trained paid staff. Well regarded as a community resource that provides the safety net of help to many families. Has provided services to Marin for over 60 years. Has many valuable services including Suicide Prevention, Teen Screen for assessing depression in young people, counseling to families, parent aides to new parents, etc. The agency is overseen by a board of community volunteers. Better than knocking them, how about a charitable donation so they can continue their good work?

Poor quality, below standard of care, uses interns w/o training or licenses. sliding fee scale. Very discriminatory. Little to no supervision of interns. Very questionable methods(abusive, coercive) in practice of unmonitored interns. Persons most at risk are survivors of violent crime(whom they claim to serve) and those w/chronic health conditions and life threatning illness.
