Three stars for the shop itself(also called The Cottage) & another for the good cause it supports. This thrift shop is off the beaten track, somewhat hidden from view, next to the entrance to the huge Toberman Neighborhood Center. I knew where it was & still passed it by the other day. It’s a smallish space(see photos) and very clean and well-organized. And not at all smelly, like some of the large thrift stores. That smell of stale laundry that hits you as you walk in the door… ew…is nonexistent here. I saw no furniture at all, just small nicknacks, clothing, shoes, some jewelry. It’s not a spectacular inventory by any stretch, but I did find a hand blown glass platter for $ 3.50, a good find. The volunteer staff(two sweet older ladies when I was there) was very helpful and kind. This shop is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 — 2. Street parking is easy in the residential neighborhood. The shop’s revenue aids the Toberman Neighborhood Center in which it’s located. The center has been around since 1903& offers a variety of useful programs. One of their main goals is to move families from poverty to self-sufficiency. There is low-income family counseling, including drug and domestic violence help. There’s licensed child care, and senior programs. And gang prevention. Needless to say, these are great causes to support, the reason I stop by the thrift shop as often as I can.
