Location is cozy and beautiful. Bit off the beaten path, which I like. This hostel is converted from old navy barracks. Unique, which is always fun. Staff was friendly. Views incredible. I was there at the very end of their open season. This season only being in the summer months. There is definite room for improvement in the cleanliness. ESPECIALLY in the bathrooms. I would recommend this hostel, but I do think there should be a through DEEP cleaning of it before the next season opening.

My friend and I needed a place to stay after arriving late in the city. I called at 9PM and was relieved to find a decent place to stay. The hostel is pretty much converted barracks from the early 20th century, but our room and the bathroom were both clean. There were many other young travelers staying the night, which gave the place a nice sense of camaraderie. Our mattresses were flat, but you get what you pay for, and we had a great nights sleep.

This is a poorly planned hostel, and very VERY uncomfortable. The mattresses were thin and squeaky and loud, just turning over makes horrible noises. The rooms were spartan and the plugs barely worked. To get to the bathroom, you have to walk through the whole dorm and wake up anyone sleeping there. Zero personality whatsoever.

When first moving to Los Angeles the Hostel in San Pedro helped save me. I arrived in LA with a car packed with random stuff and no home. I was easily able to book a stay at the hostel and was so relieved when I arrived. The place is cleaner, and smelled better than my former home in the Tenderloin plus I think overall cheaper. I only slept two night at the hostel and was out during the day apartment hunting and at the bars at night. During my stay the place was really quiet and I only met one other person. I am not sure if it is always so empty but it certainly wasnt the place to make friends. The location is beautiful if not a bit away from central LA. People would need a car if staying here.
