Unfortunately D and D Gallery is closed permanently as of July 1st and the couple who owned it are no longer either. Ah well, and life goes on.

Oh I had such fun here today! I was walking past, the door was open, and I spotted mannequins… I was in there like a flash! I got a thing for mannequins, they are intriguing, appearing to be people frozen in time. What a great show is running now, at this gallery. I did fall in love with one art piece, an embellished, transformed mannequin that depicts a woman who has sacrificed, lost, her loved ones to war. So powerful and so beautiful. I want to buy it. I thought about it all the way home as I was driving. I also saw some framed photographs that were done with a new technique that was very striking. And I saw amazing watercolors by a WeHo tattoo artist: his colorful paintings of tattooed arms and backs, near life size, like studies. Just exceptional work. Obviously, I love art. And, as a former gallery owner, I appreciate a kickass gallery that shows first rate work, especially work by emerging artists… because not only is it still affordable, but It can be one hell of a great investment. One of the best attributes of D and D Gallery are the owners. Diane and David(see photos). I had an absolute ball chatting with them. I stayed for so long, gabbing away, that I almost ran out my parking meter time limit. The gallery is practically brand new. It’s been open only since January, just a few months. If the current show is any indication of the quality of art we will see at future shows, then I will be a regular visitor. In fact, I already know I will be. David and Diane told me that the area of San Pedro where they are located holds an event on the first Thursday of every month, during happy hour time, like 5 or 6pm to 9. It sounds great! like a festival/art walk. Look for postings on the events feature. I’ll be there at the next one. I am smitten with this delightful section of San Pedro, near 7th St. between Pacific and the harbor. It’s a lovely area with historic buildings, quaint shops and galleries, cool bars, good restaurants… I was there last weekend and already I was back today to explore further. And look what happened! I got new friends! I gonna make Unilocalers out of them, stay tuned…
