I would recommend the meat dishes like pork lau lau, kalua pork and the spam masubi. For sides I love their gobo because it is fresh unlike places that make them from frozen packages. Base on availability you can buy fresh favor mochi. My favourite is guava mochi.

A fantastic hidden gem inside the little grocery store! The Hawaiian Nachos are very good. Not a race against time to eat it all before it all sogs out like most soupy nachos. Very clean flavors with smokey pulled pork and perfectly crispy chips. Ahi Poke tasted very fresh. They give you the sauce on the side. You can put in as little or as much as you like. This brought me back to the big island instantly.

Located inside of Takahashi Market, Sachi’s kitchen serves lunch plates that will satisfy your«ono grindz» cravings. Okay, I must admit that I am a tad bit disappointed because I really wanted to give Sachi’s Kitchen 5 stars, however, some of their dishes are on the small side and are quite underwhelming. Below are some of the items that I have tried from Sachi’s Kitchen. Spam Musubi — Delicious, but the portions were way too small at $ 4.50. Usually, $ 5 could get 6 spam musubi for my sisters and myself. They add furukake to their spam musubi, which gives it that extra kick. Kalbi Musubi — Kalbi Musubi, say what?! Yes, they have it here! Unfortunately, the kalbi is a little bit on the dry side, but it’s a perfect option if you want something other than spam. Korean Chicken Wings with Brown Rice — First off, their brown rice is fluffy, soft, and delicious! Secondly, the Korean chicken wings are just alright. They give you PLENTY for the price, but I’ve been to other places that can make Korean chicken wings taste delicious. Kalua Pork Rice Plate — Stay away from this! It’s way too salty, dry, and a waste of your money! Also, the portions are super small. Macaroni and Cheese Spring Rolls — This is definitely one of Sachi’s Kitchen’s best creations. Bacon, spam, and macaroni and cheese fried into an egg roll accompanied with a sweet chili dipping sauce is the perfect appetizer! They only give you 2 rolls for $ 5, though. Overall, Sachi’s Kitchen is a okay to me. 4 stars because they have the friendliest people working here!

Now that Hukilau in PA is defunct, I’ve found my new favorite Kalua Pork and Lau Lau place. The Kitchen inside of Takahashi market. I had just had lunch but when I took a togo order the smell was irresistible and I had to dig in. Damn that pork is good! If you don’t do a la carte like I did, you can get it in a quesadilla, with cabbage and a few other preparations. I wanted to try the ribs and a few other items so I’ll definitely have to come back to hit those up!

P is for the pieces of raw fish O is for OMG, how can something this simple taste this good? K is for kinda takes me back to Hawaii with each bite. E is for everyone who enjoys sushi should enjoy this. Finally, I found some poke in California. Their poke selection is limited but I can’t expect it to be like Tanioka’s can I? Now that kind of comparison would be unfair. I will say they do have a nice variety of lunch and dinner plates and their kalbi steak plate not only smelled fantastic but was also very tasty. Overall, It’s like they uprooted a local Hawaiian place and stuck here in San Mateo, CA. The people working here are super friendly and it is a good place to pick up Hawaiian food. I’ll be back for sure.

after i purchased a package of haupia instant mix, i started to get hungry from the aroma that was coming from this nook of a space, inside the takahashi market where they grilled & broiled chicken, fish and meat and where they cook the rice as well. the«special board» menu caught my eye instantly because of the butterfish shioyaki. so i told one of the courteous takahashi family member that i want the butterfish with a side of the lobster salad. i went back again to the register and paid this time my lunch in a styrofoam box. hungry and excited, i ate my food in the car that was still parked at their parking lot. the rice was steaming hot alright, however, the tiny 3 pieces of the butterfish were quite«fishy» to taste. was it not fresh… i do not know. was it not clean right… i do not know. what do i know?! at that moment, all i know was that i’m starving and i have to eat. though these pieces of fluffy, smooth butterfish were rightly salted & grilled, and that piece of lemon was squeezed bone dry, that odd taste was still there! the measly lobster salad, which it didn’t look like it was«part of the meal», but more of a condiment that you use like a spread on your bread! that was how insufficient that lobster salad in my lunch box. after i scarfed that okay of a lunch meal, that fishy scent was stuck on my upper lip! so i figured that i will never going to get this dish again. this was not the only item posted on a white paper with colored pictures and their prices, but they also have: grilled teri chicken, baby back ribs, kahlua pork, pork lau lau, more shioyaki(salmon, saba), mochiko chicken(my fave, but i did not get) lunch plates, bento boxes, musubi(spam, salmon), sushi, lomi salmon, and poke(ahi, tako, hamachi & salmon. these items were quite pricey for the small portion they serve. also, they do party trays. for now, i’ll just stick to the food store for ingredients and snacks and save my meal money to an actual japanese or hawaiian restaurant. nevertheless, i still might buy a mochiko lunch plate just to try, since this is my treasured hawaiian plate.
