Horrible customer service. Sat there for over a hour and a half waiting on our food missed a show we had tickets to… watched everyone who came in way after us get served their food and the waitress didnt come up once to apologize or say anything regarding why we werent being served. When i stopped the waitress and asked her to check on the food she said she would and then never came back to let us know. Ridiculous will never step foot in there again. Whats good food for horrible service??? We eventually walked out hungry and upset.

Completely empty at 7:00 on a Wednesday! Weird — but I’ll take it if it means my food comes out faster :). The BF and I tried a couple of dishes after hearing good things about this place. Pasta Negra– favorite of the night! The squid ink pasta was the perfect al dente, and the seafood goodies were abundant. The sauce was creamy and spicy as well. Lomo Saltado — this one was only OK for us. The onions were probably the best part of the meal, but the meat wasn’t tender enough, considering it was filet mignon! I did love the smokey charred flavor on the meat though. Also the french fries were perfectly crispy. Will probably be back to try the ceviche!

Really good tasting Limo saltado that comes in BIG proportions compare to others. I enjoyed my food but the waiter is horrible as she only had 6 tables total but never asked how was the food she had too much time to be on her phone.

The establishment is just off the street. When we first walked in, it looked like a deli but it was really a bar. We were not even sure if the place was open for business. The waitress came around the corner and greeted us and took us to our seats in the back. The place is very clean and tidy. The waitress seated us and brought out a basket of dry, stale French bread with an assortment of dipping sauces. We asked for fresh bread. She returned with the same basket of bread heated in a microwave. It was chewy and spongy. To drink, I had ordered an Arnold Palmer. The waitress asked what that is. I explained that it is ice tea and lemonade. She brought out the beverage with a lime wedge. It was just ice tea. The Yuca Balls were quite tasty. By themselves they are bland but are much better when eaten with the accompanied huancaina sauce & salsa criolla. The Lolo Saltado was a confused dish that doesn’t know what it wants to be when it grows up. There were hints of garlic and spikes of over saltiness. The French fries and rice convo was bizarre. Two starches for a single dish? I really wanted to like this dish but it was truly lacking in any real flavor. Overall, service was decent, but the food left me feeling full yet unsatisfied.

Second visit here and the food was as good as the first, though service suffered due to two big parties in the house. Four of us ordered: * Appetizer sampler. 4⁄5 stars. Great start to the meal; the beef hearts were especially tender and delicious. The calamari was a tad greasy but otherwise perfectly cooked with a light batter. * Grilled octopus appetizer with potato balls. 5⁄5. Looked a bit strange but the sauce was addicting and the flavors melded well. * Pasta Negra. 5⁄5. Great squid ink spaghetti with seafood. * Pachamanca — braised pork and beef chunks with yucca and giant corn. 4⁄5. Would be 3⁄5 for the dry beef chunks and 5⁄5 for the flavorful moist pork chunks. Overall great meal and look forward to coming back.

One of the best Peruvian food I have had! I’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile since it’s not too far away from me. They have a wide selection of amazing peruvian food and smells great inside :) We ordered: Pasta Negra: Squid Ink pasta! VERY good, highly recommend to order, not dry at all and had a good amount of seafood. Anticuchos: Grilled beef liver. Tasty and marinated really well, cooked just right. Ceviche Mixto: Very interesting ceviche, they had big pieces of red snapper in it and was very big portion. Definitely different from the places Lomo Saltado: Steak with rice, fries and sautéed onions + peppers, VERY good and great combination. Not too salty I will definitely come back here again and try their other items on the menu. Everything was very well cooked and flavored. My new to go Peru restaurant!

Came here for Paint Nite — came early for dinner before painting. Will have to say the server was very nice but hard to track down after a while. But she was really sweet — I checked into Unilocal and got free Yucca fries which were delicious! Thank you! But it was hard to get water refills or boxes for leftovers or to get the bill paid… My girl friend and I each ordered ½ chicken which was VERY delicious… but very small chicken. I guess that’s good? Means no hormone? The french fries and the sweet potato fries were so good — so fresh and so tasty. But the most important was the plantains! OMG — so sweet and perfect. Would like to try more dishes next time. Parking wasn’t too bad — only had to pay for 1 hr on meter as it’s free after 6pm so that worked. It is a very small place and a bit confusing when you first walk in — you think it’s just a bar — so it helped knowing to go into the back from other Unilocalers! Will come back just to try some other dishes…

When in Rome… Okay, okay I’m in San Mateo but who wants yet another Chili’s? If you do, then you’re reading the wrong review for the wrong restaurant. Situated right beside a small market, it’s a bit unassuming from the street but welcoming inside. Had the Pescado a lo Macho for my main dish. It’s snapper with other seafood over rice. The waiter said it would be a bit spicy, but not by my palate. Flavor was excellent and I was reminded of a favorite Paella I used to order years ago. Didn’t try the ceviche, but the table next to me seemed to love it. I did have a Pisco Sour, which I really liked. Finished off with the caramel ice cream, which was super!

I was on my way to Burlingame and this place popped as a suggestion on Unilocal.I was greeted by the manager and he even helped me find a parking since it’s hard to find a parking. The food was amazing my first time trying Peruvian ceviche and it was on point. My wife ordered the chicken and it was juicy and full of flavor, I will be coming back

Excelente. La mejor comida peruana fusionada, con los insumos basicos peruanos, pero con la mezcla, de culturas, ingredientes de otros paises, sin alterar el producto final.

I had the Lomo Saltado here and it was alright. I tried a few of my friend’s dishes and the food was okay. Not much to write home about. I wouldn’t recommend the Ceviche either really. It just felt like it was lacking. The Paella was also a bit off. I couldn’t really put my finger on it. I think the food was just lacking in the strong flavor department. If you’ve haven’t had Peruvian before, you won’t notice, but I was on a Peruvian binge on a quest to find the best ceviche when I was here, so my review may be a bit biased. The ambiance is good though, although the service was a bit lacking. I waited forever for them to refill my water. They were pretty full that day, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to that. It’s a tad pricy. For the price I was expecting the tastiness or portion size to be a level higher than it was. I’ll give this place 2 stars. I’d eat here again if someone suggested it, but I would probably suggest other Peruvian restaurants if that’s what we were craving.

So, let me start of by saying that I’m no foodie so I actually thought their food was pretty good. However, the service was TERRIBLE. I literally felt like I was being avoided by the waiting staff the entire night. My friends and I had to get their attention after 20 minutes of waiting around to see if they would check in. Obviously not. Got the food and drinks pretty quickly, awesome! Never got a refill on our water, a check in on how things were, or if we wanted anything else. By this time the crowd started to go, and we had another 20 minutes of waiting to get our check. No eye contact to our table or check in, so we had to flag down another waiter to help. They never picked up the check so we physically had to hand it to the lady who was talking on her cell phone at the register. I have the upmost respect for people that work in customer service, but there seemed to be no real effort to make us feel welcomed. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be going back.

I wanted to try peruvian cuisine so I went to this place where I ordered paella and a flan for dessert. Paella was good(but the one at Cha Cha Cuba is better, sorry guys ;)) but the flan was amazing! I would come back only for the dessert, ha ha

Parking can be tricky so prepare to walk a few blocks The entrance is quite deceiving in terms of seating, they have a pretty spacious back area great for groups(we were a party of 10, make sure to make reservations) Complementary bread with 3 different sauces were a great way to kickstart the evening Appetizer Combo Platter — a good variety of options done well(good for 2 – 4 people) Paella — abundance of seafood and meat, flavors were decent Lomo Saltado — meat was tender, fries were done well, sauce was flavorful but lacked depth Pesto Pasta(no meat, but you can add) — straightforward dish, fresh vibrant notes Ceviche Mixto — quality was good, variety was great, a tad overly acidic for my taste Whole Roasted Chicken — moist, well seasoned, satisfying Service was slow considering that night there was only one server for the whole room and he had to bartender as well! Overall Thoughts I can definitely see myself coming back for a repeat visit

I had high hopes for this place, but I was very disappointed. The service, while very friendly and nice, is incredibly slow. We placed our drink order, and It took 20+ minutes to get our drinks! My friend tried the paella. It was okay, not great but also not bad. Seafood was fresh, but the dish itself was not that flavorful. I tried the lomo saltado, which was mediocre at best. The beef strips were very tough, and some were overcooked. There were too many red onions. The only saving grace was the sauce, but there wasn’t enough of it. The flan was pretty good though, so don’t skip dessert. Overall an okay place, but nothing really special. The best lomo saltado is at La Mar in San Francisco!

Fusion, I’m really excited to go. Fusion not only describes the food but the area where you go to find this place. You come into a four seater table and a bar. I asked if I was to seated here at the front, escorted to the back, well it opens up to some nice soft pillow like vinyl covered tables. The food and pisco sours are good. I had the squid ink pasta with seafood. Penne pasta vs. noodles I guess they change it around every now and then. The bread and dipping sauces where nice to look at, but the bread was rather dry, and the sauces hot and tasty. My plate was super filling that I couldn’t even finish. Will be back to try the steaks. This is good food done right. And done well.

Located about two blocks away from downtown San Mateo where restaurants are lined up within steps apart and the selection is ample. Fusion Peruvian Grill, a small dive restaurant, is set away from that in a more scrappy part of town. When you enter through the front of the restaurant the first thing you will see is a small bar area and open kitchen, just head straight to the back and you will find the dining room. The room itself has no windows looking out but it was an open space and good for groups between 2 – 6. The seating arrangement along the wall was closely set to one another. The restaurant has under 20 tables and only 15% was filled. You would think that they could space people out a bit for a more comfortable dining experience but that was not the case. There was a party of two that came in midway during our meal that ended up sitting next to us while the center room was completely vacant. Complimentary bread(room temperature) provided with three dipping sauces. Sauces: Yellow(Crema de Huancaína — mild on heat and flavorful) Light green(Salsa de Cilantro — a lighter cilantro mix and spicy) and Chimichurri(Nice and savory) All three sauces were delicious. Additionally, a plate of yucca fries is offered with Unilocal check-in. Service was was friendly and the pace was on the more relaxed side. The food was good, a decent fusion place with a good selection of cocktails offered. What was ordered: — Bistek a lo Pobre Grilled New York steak, fried plantains, french fries & two eggs, Served w/rice.(This was okay, the steak was thin which is alright but the steak should have been beaten with a mallet before hitting the grill. It was tough even at medium rare.) — Chicharron de Pollo Crunchy boneless chicken marinated in parrillera sauce & served w/spicy rocoto aioli.(Very good. Juicy meat and crispy batter that wasn’t too thick or greasy.) — Lomo Saltado — Stir-fried steak w/onion, tomato, cilantro, garlic, red wine vinegar & soy sauce, served w/fries & a side of rice.(This was good. Plump and juicy tomatoes and tender beef. It was seasoned well and tasted delicious.) What you need to know: — Parking is metered — Happy Hour — Cocktails are $ 1 off Monday — Friday 5pm-8pm — Check-in on Unilocal for a complimentary order of fried yucca

Looking for a dinner spot in San Mateo, my coworker suggested Fusion Peruvian Grill based on the reviews on Unilocal.Upon arrival, I was a little skeptical; it didn’t seem like the best part of town and it seemed liked a very small storefront. When you walk in, there’s a small bar area and the open kitchen takes up most of the area. You walk past the kitchen and the dining area is in the back. It was fairly nice in the dining area. They offer bread and 3 dipping sauces that go with it. The sauces include: a garlic sauce, a spicier one with peppers, and a sweet/spicy one with banana peppers. I only tried the garlic sauce and that was really good. For our appetizer, we ordered the Fusion Sampler and that was pretty tasty. The corn kernals are really giant! I really enjoyed the fried calamari and the yuca. The dipping sauce with it is a must to have. Our server didn’t bring it out initially, so we had to ask for it. Make sure to ask! For my entrée, I got the pasta negra(squid ink pasta with mussels, clams, baby shrimp, scallops, and prawns). I really enjoyed that dish and thought the amount of seafood with the pasta was perfect. My boss had the pesto linguine with chicken. There was a large amount of chicken with the linguine. I had a taste and the pesto was really good! I wouldn’t expect pesto linguine at a Peruvian place… who knew! I had a mango margarita to drink with dinner and that was only OK. Service was great initially, but after it started to get busier, it took a while to get our entrees and even refills on water. Our appetizer came out super quick though. There was only one server for the entire restaurant though, so I’m sure that it would have been better if there was someone else. She was really friendly and knowledgeable though. I’d recommend giving Fusion Peruvian Grill a try(it’s not cheap though!). If you show them your Unilocal review, you get a free order of yuca.

Finally got to try Fusion Peruvian Grill in San Mateo last week. The restaurant is located across from the train station next to the Hispanic Market. The frontage is kinda strange with just a Bar front. The restaurant dinning room is actually located in the back. The décor is simple but since there are no windows and the ceiling is low the atmosphere is intimate but the ventilation is poor. It was interesting that all the tables that evening were Asian. We ordered the following: Ceviche Mixto 4 stars good portions with corn and seafood. Pasta Negra 5 stars squid in pasta very good Fusion Sampler 4 stars includes Leche Tigre, grilled beef heart, mussels, calamari Combo mixed grill 4 stars NY steak, Skewers of shrimp, beef hearts, potatoes. Yuca Balls 4 stars they have a couple of types of Yuca and every dish comes with some sort of yuca or fries. Half Rotisserie Chicken 2 stars extremely dry and bland. Dessert: Dulce De Leche Crepes were spectacular !. I don’t usually eat dessert but this was excellent. Our waiter was excellent and was the only server for the whole place. Miscues, were the bartender did not show up that night so no cocktails. The server was trying to figure out the Chardonnay, Stella, and Sierra Nevada. I received a Sierra Nevada even though I ordered a Stella. Too bad about the Bartender because we were all looking forward to the Cadillac Margueritas and Pisco Sours on the drink menu. $ 126 before tip

Such a cute lil place. As we walked closer, we looked through the window & saw the front of the restaurant. It made us hesitant and thought about going elsewhere. It looked like a tiny bar w/one table in a narrow area. Luckily there was a server out front, he welcomed us in, informing us the dining areas in the back. They have a large variety of peruvian seafood dishes, cocktails and piscos. They serve complimentary bread w/a colorful aray of flavorful dippng sauces. Our server Erika was nice & helpful in suggesting our entrees(they all seems so good, we couldn’t decide!!). Their sangria was well mixed and went great with our ceviche and yucca appz. Im definitely gong to return to try everything! Big portions Great service Delicious! Hands down the Best Peruvian food ever!!!
