I’ve got this major addiction to carbs. If you can relate, then you know what I mean. Donut Delite’s Cinnamon Rolls and Twist are insanely, really good. They taste so fresh. And when you come here early in the morning, they are still warm. Also, I really love their customer service. It’s family owned. Everyone is always so cheerful! Plus, they sell LOTO and provide customer parking. Until then, be kind to one another and Cheers! ~ :p

My friend got an éclair here and declared it tasted like cardboard. I like eclairs so I thought how bad could it be? Yeah it was bad. It tasted really dry and it was possible it was defrosted or something. Pass!

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. Conveniently located next to Caltrain. Nothing impressive. We got some of the plain donuts that didn’t taste too different from what I’ve had at Safeway. Make sure you have cash. For some reason although our purchase was well over the minimum required for a card transaction, we were still charged an extra dollar.

I’ve passed by this place a ton of times and to be honest, I’ve always been skeptical of the quality of the donuts because of how the place was, and I’m glad to find out that I was wrong. Someone brought these into the office and they were actually really good — I ate 2! I had a sprinkle donut and a chocolate topped with almonds and was surprised to find it moist and perfectly donut-y(sometimes they’re too cake-y). The icing/chocolate on top of the donuts are really go too. Overall, never judge a donut shop from how it looks on the outside. I’m a fan!

Nothing special. I’ve tried their sugar and chocolate donuts and both are mediocre at best. The store also reeks of detergent most of the time. Not sure what they use to clean their floor, but it feels like my nostrils are going to burn up when I walk past the storefront.

We don’t have very many fancy donut places around the Bay Area and to tell you the truth I’m not a big donut person myself. So when I try a good donut, it really is a GOOD donut. Donut Delite has the best apple fritters around. Their apple fritters come in two sizes. I can’t even tell you how much the small is because I get the large so often and usually share. The large is $ 2 and is well worth it. The fritter comes moist with tiny chunks of apple. YUM! Their shop is pretty spacious and they sell lotto which is convenient. They only take cash so make sure to have some handy if you don’t want to leave empty handed.

I went in for a chocolate cruller. It was cold and mushy in the middle. For $ 1.30, it was not worth it. Cash only.

Only had 5 mins before the caltrain came, I walked into Philz nearby and the line was huge so I walked right out and over to this place. Very friendly, family-run business. The food was fresh and they were clearly not touching anything with their hands but rather using tongs for everything. I had their breakfast bagel(no meat) and they even gave me a discount because there wasn’t any bacon. I made it to the train and that bagel was delicious. I’m definitely going back to try the donuts.

Good donuts overall. Someone in the office brought in a dozen and they went quick. I had the chocolate sprinkle donut and it was soft, moist, and sweet just the way I like it. I tried the coffee cake crumble one and it was decent not quite sweet enough. Overall a good place to go.

I’m a true believer in fresh donuts. Don’t give me a donut that’s been sitting out for hours, dense from the oil it was completely fried in. Yeah, not a pretty picture nor a yummy tasting one either. This place doesn’t let me down. It’s close to the train station and what stops me from getting a donut every morning before work is: 1) They are a CASHONLY joint and 2) I don’t want to be 400lbs. Bonus: if you become a semi-regular and purchase more than 6 donuts, the lady will sometimes put a few donut holes in the bag. Score!

This is a pretty cute place for a mom and pop shop. They sell ice creams, drinks, donuts and other breakfast pastries. The best time for you to get pastries though is in the morning, otherwise, you’re just going to be eating the ones that have been left out all day. You should also know what you want to order before you get there. Apparently they shut the TV off on you if they catch you watching and you’re taking too long to eat or order. And I’m not saying this because it happened once, but 3 times. Which makes it obvious. I was waiting for the rest of my friends to come before we all put our orders in and the older gentleman shut the TV off on me while I was watching it after speaking to the older lady in their native tongue. They then attempted to pressure me into ordering by having 3 ladies ask me what I wanted to order consecutively, even when I just told the youngest girl(out of the 3 of them) that I was waiting for the rest of my party to arrive before ordering. I understand that their business thrives on people’s orders and making a profit but the store was already empty and I hate being rushed.

I’ve driven by this place hundreds of times but never ventured in cuz I’m not a huge donut fan(healthwise). But when peninsula coffee roasters closed down the street, had to fine a new spot to get my morning brew. So one fateful day I venture into this shop and Lo and behold… They brew Peerless Coffee! I love this company! Only thing that could make it better would be if they had Sumatra. The roast is dark, strong, and smooth. The shop has a steady flow of customers so the brews have a good turnover. An interesting mix of white collar and blue collars peeps hanging out here. Not as comfortable as other cafés, but the good brew makes up for it. Also cheaper than other coffee shops around(big name and little name) One of these days I’ll splurge on an old fashion plain donut.

Dry old-fashioned donut… used to it being moist! Then again, 4 p.m. could be the reason why… been sitting there all day! Prices = moderate. I’ll come back here if I need a quick snack on the way back from doctor’s… I suppose. It’s right near CalTrain station… hard to resist.

Morning of Veteran’s day… traffic was clear… getting to work office was simple… it put me in a good mood so I decided to pick up a box of donuts for the coworkers. Punched«donuts» into my trusty Unilocal app, up popped Donuts Delite and Matt G.‘s 5-star review on this spot, so I trust. «How much for a dozen?» I asked. «$ 10 for a dozen,» said the heavy accented lady, which took me a while to understand cuz she had to say it three times. «Dolla more for special donut,» she said. I took a look at the French crullers, which looked a bit sad & slightly smushed so I passed on those and opted for a chocolate custard bar &11 other regular donuts. Paid $ 11 cash for the donuts, which were packed nicely into a cute pink box. So the taste? I only ate the chocolate custard bar. It was soft with a light custard filling. Wished the filling was a bit more eggy & custard-y. Chocolate topping was decent, not overly sweet. As for the rest of the donuts, the coworkers finished them with no complaints… well after all, it was free for them anyway. CONVENIENCE: **** [Located on the corner of B St. &1st Ave. in San Mateo, easy to find, metered parking available.] AMBIANCE: *** [Nothing special, just your average donut shop.] SERVICE: **** [Fast & friendly, altho difficult to understand the heavily accented lady.] PRICE: $ [CASH only, $ 10 a dozen, $ 1 extra charge for special donuts.] OVERALL: ***/* [3.5 stars rounded up… for being open on Veteran’s day. The minuses are for the not too appealing French donut and for being CASH only.] Nuff said. [#54 of 100 UnilocalCHALLENGE2013]

Maybe I was in a good mood because public transit worked in my favor. Maybe it was because I was going to be more than on-time to work. Whatever the reason, Donut Delite shined like a beacon when I wanted to reward myself for having such a smooth morning. The news was blasting, the coffee was brewing, and the donuts were bountiful. After trying Eagle Donuts in Bernal Heights(and LOVING it), I didn’t know if this place could top it. Well, it didn’t, but it came damn close. I ordered a Chocolate Twist donut and a maple-frosted Old-Fashioned. I was going to take them to go but decided to have a beverage and enjoy my spare time. The Chocolate-Twist was moist, with flakey chocolate frosting. I would have preferred more frosting, but it still hit the spot. Old-fashioned needs to follow three rules: hard outside, moist inside, proper frosting: donut ratio. I think it definitely succeeded, minus again — more frosting is never a bad thing. I had cash, so I’m not sure if the cash-only thing is still a thing, but hopefully not. That’s annoying. Otherwise, if you find yourself in San Mateo and craving donuts(doesn’t matter what time of day, let’s be real), then head delight yourself with a donut from Donut Delite.

Went there midday for donuts and ice cream. Fast and friendly service. They sell a lot of lotto and lottery tickets so the crowd is more of a ‘casino regulars’ group in the afternoon.

If I were to describe this place with one word, it would be «YUMMY.» Besides their finger-licking delicious donuts, their tiramisu is amazing. It is one of the best I ever had. I’m salivating as I think of every morsel of creamy goodness that touched my picky palate. Until we meet again, I will be dreaming of that delish tiramisu.

Colleague suggested that we stop by this place after our sushi luncheon at Joy Sushi. Custard-filled Chocolate Doughnut @ $ 1.65 — E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E!!! …unbelievable! I’ve never had a $ 1.65 custard filled doughnut in my life… I was in a rush to run back to the office and had no time to argue… despite many signs that stated that doughnuts were $ 0.75– $ 0.90 — Donut was fresh and tasty… not too sweet either!(I’m not a big fan of Krispy Kreme btw…) …friendly service from the Asian man behind the counter too…

Co-worker wasn’t available to take a break with me, so I drove back to downtown on my break for a quick snack. You can easily tell that Matt loves the quiet Downtown San Mateo area. He definitely does. I had a craving for a doughnut-like pastry. And it has been a awhile since he had a doughnut. Seriously! This«old-school» bakery is one block away from the Cal Train station. This is a perfect location for grabbing a quick snack for the ride to wherever the heck you’re going. As expected, with the convenient location, you’ll also pay a higher price on selective items. Although this bakery is not«spit-shine» clean, they just serve simple doughnuts and other pastries fresh from the kitchen in the back. You can smell the treats being made from the streets. I had the Apple-Fritter and a 16 oz cup of French-roast coffee. The $ 1.50 fritter is thinner than some of the apple fritters from other bakeries, but the apple chunks is visible and the flavor was very powerful. The fresh coffee was just released when I arrived into the bakery and was very soothing and tasty. I also order a couple of Glazed Old-fashion doughnuts and 16 oz of the same coffee for my co-worker. The doughnuts were $.85 each. We can debate that it’s pricey. There are other fine bakeries in the Downtown area, which will be my next destination sooner or later. But this simple bakery is family-owned and I support them.
