There aren’t enough stars for this place. Every burger on the menu taste amazing but my most favorite is their Gilroy burger. Their fries are great too with the perfect amount of salt in them. Their breakfast menu is also amazing! I always get the veggie scrambler or the birds nest with a frozen chocolate frappé! Everything on the menu is beyond great so order whatever you like! You wont be disappointed. The restaurant itself is very cute & has this mom & pop feel to it. Its very decorative too. It makes you feel at home.

If you enjoy homemade-tasting quality food then you’re up for a treat! The place is a bit cramp but they have a variety of selection if you manage to snag two of their menus as one is for breakfast and the other is for lunch. I got a grilled cheese sandwich with a tomato and an order of scrambled egg whites on the side. The grilled cheese was just very okay. Not the best and tasted like something I would make at home if I’m feeling lazy. The scrambled egg is standArd however I wasn’t sure why it was over $ 3 for a small plate?! I thought the menu said it was $ 1.50 but apparently not. My boyfriend got a turkey sandwich which was good with a decent portion of chips. However he also said it tasted like the turkey sandwiches I make for him at home except not as good. The prices are okay though apparently one scrambled egg is quite pricey. All in all it was an okay lunch. For the price we paid though maybe I’ll go somewhere else where the food doesn’t taste like I made it.

Went here for the first time on a sat am with my family and there was a long line. The tables are first come first serve so you gotta kinda wait around like a hawk if you’re trying to eat in. There is a good selection of fritters, doughnuts, teas and breakfast plates. I got the churro fritter which was good just didn’t really have any cinnamon to set it apart to qualify as a churro fritter. My daughter got the instagramable sandwich which was ginormous and of course she didn’t finish it. Their hash browns are crispy and their French toast is pretty good too.

You can almost not tell that this used to be a taco bell. Lol. The signs in the parking lot give it away though ;) We ordered a brunch burger, garlic fries and a jelly donut. To their credit, we didn’t get the jelly donut right away, in case my boyfriend really was planning to just eat that one thing for lunch. When we arrived, there was only one clean table and three dirty ones. Somehow, we beat the rush by getting here at 1:00pm. And a few people had to sit at those dirty tables like it really was still a Taco Bell. I would come back for the food, but maybe take it to go instead of eating in.

I came here when it just opened. Thank goodness they added that side patio for more seating. But for goodness sakes: take down the damn Christmas Tree(It’s February). You’ll get an extra table in… also, think about taking down Halloween stuff too. It’s almost time to put it up again. :P The food is average. Very trendy marketing designs on their menu’s and fun names like the Smelly Cat burger(uhm gross… I don’t want anything smelly). They give you so many fries in your order that no one ever finishes — ever. Save your money Apple Fritter owner, cut it down by 50% and no one will be the wiser. The portion on egg meals are grisely. I get more potatoes than I care to see. The bread used with everything is great here. I would recommend a breakfast sando anytime here. Their donuts are very very good. They should expand upon that. OHHH, but they can’t. They have a small restaurant and small footprint. Ok. Well, nm then. We go here but not that often. I think we’ve been probably 10 times since they opened last year. It’s the kind of place you go when you want greasy trendy food and want to sit next to hipsters. But I think a hangover would be cured here(or Denny’s… come to think of it, Denny’s is better).

I came here for a Sunday brunch and was pretty happy that the line was quite short. We ordered and got seating within 10 – 15 minutes. I ordered the Toothfairy and my friend ordered the Instagrammablewich. I wasn’t very impressed with my food though. I thought the eggs were a bit dry and the french toast was a bit too sweet for the Toothfairy. My friend enjoyed his sandwich though. This place is not bad to grab a bite, but there wasn’t really anything special. I expected the food to be better considering the high price.

I’ve been dying to try this place and boy, Apple Fritter did not let me down.(Well, besides one ironic twist.) Housed in what was previously a taco bell, you can certainly tell with the little cottage-like building and the sign. — — — — — -Let’s just get to the grub. — — — — — — - I went there for the doughnuts! The cool, unique nuts were the orange one(orange glaze), the churro fritter, a tutti frutti doughnut, and some more of your regular varieties. I decided on the maple chocolate apple fritter, maple old fashioned, and maple doughnuts(see a theme here?) Ironically enough, the maple chocolate apple fritter was definitely fried and crispy, if a bit too sweet for me. Not my favorite thing. The maple old fashioned was pretty amazing. But, the star of the show was the fluffy, fresh maple doughnut. The inside was a tiny bit too doughy for my liking, but the outside was sheer perfection. I’m not sure if it was just me, but the doughnuts tasted a bit more fried than other places I’ve been to(I know, they are doughnuts). Speaking of fried, while standing in the Sunday a.m. line, I was drooling over the fries. They looked amazing, and the brunch also looked so yummy. They also serve the food on metal trays, kind of like what you bake on. For a place that looks like a little Taco Bell cottage, this place is pretty high tech with internet-sent receipts and tablets. Contrasting to its eclectic décor and style. Parking: I went Sunday and the small lot was full. Most people ended up parking in the office buildings across the street. So, definitely worth the trip to try out the doughnuts. I’ll be making another trip for the fries and homemade chips… and apparently they also make garlic tater tots?

I want to go back! Hmm, maybe I will for lunch in a few minutes. This place was great. Went there the other weekend with my wife and baby. We started off splitting an Apple Fritter, which was amazing. I got the chorizo tacos, and my wife got a chorizo scramble or something. Both were really good, and we shared with the baby, who liked everything as well, especially the chorizo. There were highchairs, and a handful of small families like ours going in and out. The place was packed, but when we got there, there wasn’t much of a line, and we found a table almost right away. It was raining when we went, but I suspect on sunny days there’s more outdoor seating that helps. All in all, great food, quick service, and a fun atmosphere. It’s a nice little brunch/lunch spot.

Apple Fritter is one of the best breakfast places on the peninsula. This place has great food for both breakfast and lunch. Their latte’s are also amazing! One item you can never forget are the doughnuts! Those things are so light and fluffy they melt in your mouth. This place is so good I find me self there several times per week. The best items are: –Birds Nest –Breakfast sandwich on rye with egg, ham and pepper jack cheese –Chorizo breakfast tacos –Breakfast Burrito with Andouille sausage –Bacon Maple Bar –Magenta doughnut –Green Tea doughnut

Good breakfast fare and decent coffee. However, the real attractions are the fritters! Show up early or they will be gone!

If you have, «Fritter» in your restaurant name then you immediately have my attention. This place will throw you off though. While their donuts will give you wood, I think their breakfast sandwiches are some of the best in the Bay! If the donuts give wood then their bacon dishes give you steal… lol. Not sure if that is possible but goodness this place rocks! Surprisingly there is quite a bit of seating inside and the turnover is pretty quick. Don’t be afraid to come here in the prime time periods because you will get to eat fast then other places for sure. Keep it up. This place is on my favorites list! Love those TOTS!!!

«This is so good, but I wish it wasn’t so greasy.» «Well, that’s what makes it so good!» Yes, they buttered my sourdough bread so they could grill it nice and crispy before stuffing fried egg, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and bacon between the slices. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Fried Egg Sandwich. Besides their amazing burgers and sandwiches, Apple Fritter also has, you guessed it, apple fritters and donuts. Cake donuts, glazed donuts, filled donuts and fritters, even a bacon fritter and a maple chocolate apple fritter(which they were sadly out of). We chose to split the churro fritter, but it was a bit burnt in some places on the outside, which gave it a bitter taste. The inside was pillowy soft though, and if you’re a cinnamon sugar fan, this is a good bet. Great little cute spot to have a bite to eat. There isn’t a ton of seating outside, but they do have outside seating, and you can also order online for pickup.

Shiver me fritters!!! This place is fantastic. Flavored apple fritters — who knew we even needed those? I got the blueberry and churro fritter and holy moly the blueberry fritter is insane — get it. The burgers were good too, I got the Pigsty and it was perfectly cooked and very juicy. Somebody I came with got the Gilroy which has this apparently awesome garlic sauce, will definitely get that next time. If your’e going for lunch on a weekday go early and get your fritters when you walk in the door because they run out of the flavored ones, and the longer you wait the more busy the place gets. When I was there they had regular apple, maple, oreo, banana, churro, and blueberry. I almost got one of each to try them all but they’re literally bigger than my hand, practically pancake-sized. Were they so big though that the size stopped me from sharing only super teensy slivers with my coworkers and then inhaling the rest by myself in practically one bite? NOPE! And the tots — ohhhh the tots. So crispy, so salty, I could eat them forever. Everybody I was with was super jealous that I upgraded to tots too, they really hit the spot!

My local go-to spot for brunch in the Peninsula! At first, I was skeptical to try this place out because I couldn’t get my mind off the fact that there used to be a Taco Bell here before. However, I am surprised at what they did with the place. It’s always a pleasure eating in this petit, vibrant restaurant with mismatching décor all-around. Amidst all the random crap hanging in this restaurant, there seems to be a centralized theme to it all — not quite sure what it is, though. lol. If you’re good with details, you’ll notice that the placeholder numbers for your order are in no particular order — «650(peninsula’s area code)», «(high) 5», «777(jackpot)», «4(ever young)», «39(Dear Midlife Crisis, Please leave me alone, I’m too young for you)» — weird, I know, but at least it makes things interesting. In addition, the bright ambiance and friendly staff makes this venue very welcoming to newcomers and regulars. Apple Fritter definitely turned up the competition for local breakfast/brunch spots San Mateo! I’ve tried the following so far: #1ORIGINALBREAKFAST($ 8.95) 2 farm fresh eggs, toast, fresh hash browns, and hardwood smoked bacon(3pcs). The tastier version of the all American breakfast. My favorite part of this meal are the hash browns. It’s unlike your average hash browns at other diners such as Mikayla’s or Country Way. It’s seasoned with a hint of herbs and spices to lock in more flavor. Moreover, it’s crispy all around. Absolute perfection. #26WILDTHANG($ 8.95) Fresh niman beef, beer battered onion rings, melted pepperjack, hot jalapeños, garlic and oil, smoky bbq. I usually add some kick with Tabasco just to make things a bit more interesting. The best lunch burger I’ve ever had. Spicy lovers, the Wild Thang may be the one for you as it includes a generous amount of jalapeños. This burger has an excellent mix of spices, sweetness, and a hint of good tummy lovin’. I must say that Apple Fritter’s burgers are a bit on the greasier side, so prepare for the major food coma afterwards. DOUGHNUTS: I’ve tried a number of their specialty doughnuts such as the Power Berry, Green Tea Raised(my personal favorite), Maple Bacon Bar, and the Blueberry raised, just to name a few. There’s a reason why these doughnuts are mostly sold out by the afternoon. IT’S FREAKIN’ DELISH! If at all possible, I highly suggest you try the Green Tea raised doughnut. And yes, it really DOES taste like green tea! So much goodness. If you’re in the Peninsula, this is the place to go! I promise you it will not disappoint! I plan to come back again soon and try their Brunch Burger and their Luther as well as their Churro Fritter and Nutella Fritter! + Limited private parking available; additional parking available across the street(S. Norfolk). + Online ordering available:

I am a fanboy of Apple Fritter. Whenever I’m craving donuts and comfort breakfast food with a twist I always think to come here. Even with the lines and wait on the weekends I am ready to come back again and again. It being an old taco bell makes it more charming lol. So far I’ve had the veggie omelette, the bird’s nest and the hippie hash. All three are delicious and taste as breakfast food should. This isn’t health food or meals for the faint of heart. I wouldn’t eat here everyday either but that’s why it’s so good. My favorite of the pastry offerings is the apple fritter. My other favorites are the banana fritter, churro fritter, berry glazed donut and chocolate maple. Oh and their cake donuts are delicious too. When ordering to go, be sure to ask for a box if you want to give them as a gift or share, otherwise they toss them in a bag even when ordering a half dozen or more. Pros: Delicious donuts, yummy rich breakfast food, fun décor and diner environment with a patio Cons: Can be lines at times and the parking lot can fill up Bottom line: Rich and tasty breakfast/lunch food and some of the best donuts I’ve had in the area

This is a great location spot to grab some fast casual breakfast or lunch. By fast casual I mean you order at the counter and the food is brought out to you there is no servers. There is a line remember to grab a menu so you can see what you want to order. I have a variety of breakfast items such as scrambles and omelettes and also a good selection of different burgers. I got the pineapple burger with sweet potato fries. The burger was cooked well and the fries were one of the best fries that I’ve had in a while. Just the right amount of crispiness and not too soggy. just like the name says this place also has a variety of different types of donuts. I have bars as well as multiple types of fritters. They run out of the donuts pretty early on the weekends so if you want to get something special like the churro fritter you’ve got to come early. It’s a nice little spot and they have now added a tent area outside so that you can sit with your pooch. Extra points for being dog friendly. So if you’re looking for a brunch spot this is a nice place although it could get a little crowded.

Avoid on busy weekends and other busy periods! You will wait a long time for your food. If you don’t mind a long wait or are not in a hurry, this place is good. Even the parking lot gets full that you have circle around and park down the street. This place can get crowded and the line gets long. Then the kitchen has a hard time keeping up. If they tell you it will be 10 – 15 minutes, it really ends up twice that amount of time. Liked: — sausage scramble — breakfast sandwiches — apple fritter So so: — blueberry fritter Disliked: — the long wait and inefficiency — parking(lack thereof)

Good place for burgers and breakfast food! I got the Bird’s Nest, which had hash, onions, and hash browns under 2 sunny side eggs and a side of bread. I thought it was really good! I enjoyed the dish. Would I get it again? Prob would want to try something else. That’s what makes it 4 stars, not 5. Interesting fact: this place used to be a Taco Bell. Can you tell? Haha There’s also outdoor seating, so you can sit when it’s nice out. No view tho, just the street. OVERALL: Good food and and chill customer service. We came during Halloween and my friend was batman. They let him order in his batman voice Lol!

A San Mateo gem. I haven’t had the chance to try their breakfast menu yet, just their burgers, and so far I’m impressed by the two burgers I’ve had. Even Jules from Pulp Fiction would be proud. #25LUTHER: Grilled glazed donut bun, melted american, applewood bacon: I know it’s weird, but try adding some tangy Tabasco and you’re golden. I really appreciate the sweet and savory flavors of this one. Greasy goodness, not diet life friendly – the sort of burger you order once or twice a year. #26WILDTHANG: Beer battered onion rings, melted pepperjack, hot jalapeños, garlic & oil, smoky bbq: I only wish that the onion rings were more crispy. The fresh, exquisitely seasoned Niman Ranch beef patties that they use are so damn tender and flavorful. Even the sides of fries included are so delicious and I’m not even a fries kinda gal. I definitely need to come back for their breakfast and donuts when the hype dies down, since their small private lot parking can be a pain and seating is meager. + Order online and pickup

Believe the hype! Apple Fritter is a great breakfast and lunch spot with epic burgers, breakfast burritos, and egg dishes. And with a name like Apple Fritter, that’s just them daring you to try one of their signature Apple Fritters and Donuts. So far I’ve only been here for breakfast on a few visits. I’ve had their Bird’s Nest and Brunch-urrito. Bird’s Nest – Ground beef scrambled w/hash browns, grilled onions, American cheese, two sunny side up eggs, sour cream So comforting! All the good stuff you need in a great breakfast is scrambled up and topped with two runny eggs to bring it all together. Brunch-urrito – Choice of meat: andouille, bacon, ham, chicken apple sausage, or fresh ground beef. Stuffed w/fresh green bells, black beans, eggs, american cheese, pico de gallo salsa, & sour cream in a tortilla wrap. Probably one of the best breakfast burritos I’ve ever had. I literally skipped lunch and had a late dinner because this was so substantial Even though you says choice of meat, you can pretty much add any combo of meats(cost extra), so I went with chicken apple sausage and bacon. OMFGYUM! It was so good I went back again to order another one. So delicious! My only little gripe of the place is that the parking lot is so small because it used to be a Taco Bell, which wasn’t really meant to handle table dining but more of a fast food in-and-out customer base. I came here once on a Saturday early at around 7am and the parking lot was already full(this was probably due to it being a Mother’s Day weekend). When that happens, there’s nowhere to park nearby and you’ll probably have to walk a little bit for the closest nearby street parking. Although the parking lot is small, there are plenty of tables both inside and outside to accommodate the masses. There’s still a lot I have to cover here, preferably their burgers, and also their donuts and fritters, and the Maple Bacon Bar. I will definitely be back again to try those out. Their Lucifer donut burger looks almost similar to the Lucifer at Little Griddle in San Francisco, which was such a guilty pleasure, so I’m hoping it’s just as delicious. It’s my favorite breakfast spot in San Mateo, and I hope that the burgers don’t let me down.
