Scent of Lavender Aroma Therapy & Skin Care

I’ve been here two times now and I thought both times were just… nice?
Mayumi is super sweet and super gentle with your skin. She’s got the whole «zen» thing going on and believes in a gentle anti-​inflammation facial rather than an aggressive approach to squeeze every last bit of juice out of your skin. She’s so gentle that she didn’t want to exfoliate or put a mask on my skin once I told her I had been out in the sun for a while. Her reasoning was exfoliation or putting a mask on would further aggravate my skin damage from being in the sun.
As a result, I walked away with glowly, less red skin; but on the same token, my skin didn’t feel or look super clean.
Her facials take about an hour and include a very light shoulder massage. Her office is clean and her prices are very reasonable. The biggest reservation I have about this place is that it’s hard to get a hold of Mayumi to make an appointment. I think she’s a one-​person operation and sometimes she doesn’t return your phone calls until a couple days later. I’ve kind of given up on the chase.

Mayumi is the best! I have been getting facials here for many many years. She is always up on the latest and greatest in skin care. She offers many private label skincare lines as well. You also can’t beat her prices given the quality of her treatments.

I’ve been a regular for over four years now, and I must say that Mayumi just gets better over time. As Stephanie T. mentioned in her review, Mayumi is up-​to-​date on the latest and the best techniques and products in the industry. I really appreciate that Mayumi always looks for ways to improve Scent of Lavender.

I started going to Mayumi for facials more than 10 years ago. I did try other aestheticians when I lived in WLA, but none ever compared to her and they were usually way more expensive. When I moved back to the SGV, I didn’t hesitate to go back to her as she was always the best. She’s very gentle with my sensitive skin and has a more natural approach that I appreciate. She’s good at keeping herself up-​to-​date on the latest techniques, products, and trends. She also has her own line of skincare products that work really well. I use the toner, serum and SPF moisturizer daily. (Don’t worry, she’s not super pushy about them the way some places are!) The place is small, very clean and kind of hidden away, so it makes for a nice quiet retreat when you really need to get away. Since it’s just her doing the facials, there is usually never anyone else there except for the next client when you are leaving.
