The Jumping Turtle

OMG. Go here in the week because The Bartender Devin !! is soo Chill. Really the only reason I go here is because of her. I wasn’t too into the Turtle but now. I go everyday just to see her pretty face !! I spend and spend lots of money just because we love to see her. 5 stars,. the best bar around with a nice outdoor patio !!!

This experience was pretty pathetic. So we were just looking to get some beer and something to eat.
We sat down at the bar and the gal that was the bartender just stood there. She seriously expected us to go to her. So obviously she wasn’t friendly at all. Took our order in a very cold manner.
So we ordered a pizza and boy it took forever to come out. When it was ready the cook sat it up on the heat rack for the bartender to hand it to us. It sat there for about 5 minutes while she just stood there looking at the crowd. We finally had to tell her to hand us our pizza lol.
The pizza was dry and there was nothing good about it.
I would never come back to this place. It wasnt even busy but boy was service lousy.

Fantastic time I forgot my cups 4 modelo cups sorry will you must have treated me to well this place is number one on my book!!!

Chill atmosphere and Will is legit the best person here. This place is nothing without him!!!

Divey? Yes, absolutely. In my opinion, best nights are weeknights. Usually no bands and no cover. Good prices on drinks and usually pretty accommodating if you ask for a certain game on one of the tvs. 25¢ wings on Thursdays. Yeah, they’re on the smaller side, but I’m not really sure what people expect when you can get 12 wings and a pitcher for like $ 20 including tip. Never had any problems with the staff or environment. Overall, a good place for an after-​work drink or a beer with friends.

Love this place, good service and good atmosphere, the cook is passionate about making food, and they always have a wide variety of music genres … 5 stars

I’ll start by saying I love this place. Great dive bar.
However, I just rejoined Unilocal this moment (after deleting my account years ago) for this one purpose…
I’ve posted a REALITY picture of the «25cent wings deal» on the Turtle’s Facebook page months ago, with a tongue-​in-​cheek comment about the size of them. Only to have my post deleted within a couple hours.
Then I heard they got «regular size» wings now. So I ordered them yesterday, only to find the cutest, tiniest hummingbird sized wings you’ve ever seen! We all got great laughs about it. So I again posted a couple pics yesterday and they were deleted by the time I got home! So, that brought me here. Such a shame too, Edgar the chef is AWESOME and his wing sauce is incredible!
They have many other great happy hour specials though, such as Friday’s $ 5 one topping pizza is very good, usually with a $ 3 Blue Moon or Hefe!
Edgar’s Monday sliders are ridiculously awesome! They’re not even sliders, they’re more like seasoned mini-​hamburgers.
Jumping Turtle is also a very competitive Buzztime Trivia location!
Nice pool tables, Golden Tee, and Tuesday night Karaōke is fun.

What a great place. It is a full dive bar in every aspect. Cheap beer, loud music, sticky floors, drunk people, and lots of fun. Came on a Thursday and they have $. 25 wings. The bar keeps are fun and enjoyable. They even have a beer pong tournament. I am glad I made the 20min drive from Carlsbad. Come on down, you won’t be disappointed. Unless this is not your type of place, then you will be.

Been coming here for years but bad management has turned me and most my friends off. Cant support the people that run this place anymore.

Only thing good about this place is sculpin 14.00 pitcher

Pretty relaxed atmosphere, not high end but definitely affordable.

One star is too much. This place blows. Sketchy and unsafe. Promote fake shows. They said bright eyes was gonna play here once and even sold tickets. They never played. They haven’t in years.
This place is straight up gross.

The live entertainment is always great and my bar tender Phil is the man. It’s a dive bar so don’t expect it to be classy just have fun. The beer is a little pricey but still a fair value. I really like the atmosphere and the music, 90’s punk-​rock takes me back to the good old days.
Thursday night is when my good friend DJ Reekz performs and it is packed by college students.

Band’s music is way too loud! Not sure why they’re trying to make us deaf. I did not enjoy my time here & couldn’t wait to leave. Gave 2 stars because bartender & waitress were nice.

Definitely the definition of a dive bar, but not the cool kind you would tell your friends about. They tried to charge 7 bucks cover for what sounded like karaōke night. If your really out of places to go, best bet is to load up at the liquor store next door and cruise home like we did.

I should’ve gone to jack in the box. At least they make the food after you pay for it. The girls in the daytime never leave you hanging like this. I ordered the special twenty minutes ago. Probably won’t order here again. Taco bell is across the street too. I could’ve got a combo with a drink for what I’m waiting on here… never been so dissatisfied.
Got my money back, and I’m out!

This is a review on my experience today…
I’ve been to this bar maybe twice before for a beer while on my bike and going somewhere else, usually on a weekend day or around happy hour so I can’t speak to the entertainment or later night scene.
Today was no different, it was happy hour and I was going to have ONE and check it out while on my way somewhere else. It was mostly (probably all) guys, regulars except for the bartender and the cook. I had a drink, was playing trivia and had a better time than I expected (stayed for longer than I planned). The bartender was good/​nice enough. It was Tuesday so of course tacos were on special and I had a couple, they were good. There was a beer promo going on and the Rep came in and bought everyone a beer! Anyway, I had a good time, I’ll be back for more of the same. To me, this is a good dive bar or biker bar (although I don’t think I’ve ever seen bikes or bikers there), it works as a good stop for me. The later night, band scene is probably ok, but not my thing.

I would give this place a negative rate if it was possible. This place is dirty and sticky! I can only imagine the kitchen! Health regulation violations galore!!! My family and I went after work for their wing special and they are mediocre but not only that, we got some that were undercooked and pink and still cold from being frozen.
Worst part, my friend bit into one and this horrid foul smell surrounded our table! What the hell is this?! We took it back to the server and she right away took it back to the manager. The server came back out stating that the reason for the smell was because it was undercooked!!! What!!! Oh we are not buying that! Worst of all, no manager! Not even an apology! Nastiest, dirtiest place ever! I hope we don’t get food poisoning or infection out of the experience.

The only times I’ve been here I came to see my friend’s bands play. Decompression and Cordova. So both times I wasn’t exactly sober.
I have a soft spot in my heart for bars that have rock shows. so thank you for that Jumping Turtle. :)
I can’t remember if there was anything special about the drinks. I remember they serve them in red solo cups which is entertaining. and they have food. When you’re drunk, food is a good thing.
I’m a fan. Keep on rocking guys. :)

I love the Turtle. Good bar food, good beer, and live entertainment. The doormen have begun cracking down on checking IDs and fitting you with a wristband before allowing you entry more than ever before (for shows anyway). I’ve only been coming here for about 5 years from time to time but apparently it used to be ultra sketchy and has cleaned up as of late, which I’m happy about. It’s one of those places I’d really like to see do well because it allows great exposure of new, local bands.
The only nights I avoid like the plague are the .25 cent wing Thursdays. I’ve been once before and discovered those nights in particular are a breeding ground for girls who can’t hold their alcohol and wings at the same time. The bathroom is TEENY TINY and difficult to brave when you have to squeeze behind the girl getting sick in the sink. Pull it together girls.
Otherwise, fun place to go listen to some music and drink beer. Cheers!
