I love how it’s near campus so it’s very convenient. So far I’ve gotten their tj style tacos, Carne Asada fries and California burritos. I usually get the tacos when they have happy hour ! Pretty cheap price for a good amount of food. Their carne Asada fries always come fresh and hot. Comes with sour cream, guacamole and cheese. The burritos are massive, you can put your choice of rice and beans and two extra sides. The food is very delicious. It’s made right in front of you, and meat is prepared when you order. But only a few times I’ve witnessed the cook wash their hands. My last visit I was very disgusted and turned off because of how he handled the food, wiped it’s hands on himself, used a rag, then began to prepare a different type of meat for another order. There is a lot of parking available. The place itself is very small but it does have extra seating outside.

Decided to give it another try, avoided the salads and went for a burrito. California al pastor, tasted great, nicely assembled. Even though the meat is pre cooked, they freshen it up and it tastes very fresh. Still wish they would give you your drink while you wait, but the place isn’t set up that way. All and all, good and I will return.

Located across the street from CSUSM, Taqueria Chispa probably gets a ton of foot traffic from students. It’s a small place with some outdoor seating. The food is just average. My carne asada burrito wasn’t really anything special. I think the salsa was made with canned tomatoes. The service was friendly though. With so many other great Mexican joints around, I won’t be returning.

I wasn’t too sure when driving up to this place but walked in and was instantly in awe with the menu and order process. The tacos were delicious and I love how you can order any toppings on the tacos. One of the salsas tasted too much like a can tomato or pace picante salsa. The owner is also the owner of mr. Taco down the street. It’s a cool location for college students. But didn’t seem to have anyone else there but me and a friend. Not sure if it’s because it’s still new or if the prices are steep for college kids. It’s worth a try– especially in taco Tuesday.
