Good food and art are for everybody. You don’t have to be the stereotype of your choice to shop the market, and you don’t have to blow the bank. I am addicted to Janie’s candles. Anything with peach in it is top of my list, although when the weather turns chilly I find more pumpkin spice finding its way into the basket. Tons of scents in between for you to find what you like, and in sizes from 3/$ 5 votives to really tall jam jars. Also love the dried smoked peppers – my secret ingredient for lots of stews when it is cold. Genfan Farms is super creative. The flower arrangements vary in design and I’ve bought prickly pear lemonade, heirloom tomato seedlings, MI maple syrup, squash blossoms, honey, day lily buds, and figs there as well as «normal» produce. She always has recipes printed up to share for produce, or catalogs for you to read up on the seedlings you might choose. Throughout the place I get greens for myself and to please my budgies, tomatoes that have FLAVOR(I try growing my own but don’t do well with anything bigger than cherry or bitty romas), glorious vegetables and eggs with dark golden, firm yolks that kind of ruin you for«bargain» eggs. If you laugh at that it is because you haven’t tasted them! I dare you to compare them! The meats can cost, it’s true, but 99% of the time the flavor just blows your hair back and compared to overpriced steakhouses it is a steal. Try a cut or two for Father’s Day or an anniversary and I bet it pays off. There’s a guy selling photos on mat board for $ 1 apiece and I expect you’ll find one you like to prop on a shelf or send as a card. He can tell you where(from Hawaii beaches to TSU theatre building) it was taken or the species of dragonfly featured. In the course of the year you’ll find pottery students from TSU, oil paintings, gourmet popsicles, carved walking sticks, jewelry, herbs and ornamental plants, and a hundred other things. The tamales and fruit cups are amazing! From vegan desserts to tikka masala to fryer rabbits, this is it. On second Saturdays of most months, come later and stick around for Art Squared on the courthouse lawn.

Amazing farmers market with the friendliest people in town. Wide variety of venders that always have a great selection of organic veggies, hand crafted items, and even delicious homemade baked goods. It’s open Saturday 9am-1pm and Tuesday’s 3pm-6pm, I definitely recommend stopping by even if it’s to just hang out you’re sure to have a great time. Loving a vegan lifestyle myself, I loved the VEGAN bakery there, was so surprised and happy to see something 100% vegan friendly in town. I am sure to keep coming back every Saturday to enjoy the company and community of San Marcos!
