Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza and Grill

I hate leaving bad reviews but it needs to be said.
Came in Saturday ²⁄₆ at 6:20pm. Me, my man, and his dad. There was no one waiting but it took us almost ten minutes to even tell a hostess how many we had. Finally the hostess arrived and we were seated out on the patio. Liked it because we were the only ones out there and it was much quieter than inside. Had heaters above the light on our table to keep us cozy warm. Looked over the menu and finally decided on our pizzas. The hostess sat another small family in the booth next to us. A few waitresses walked by but didn’t say anything to either table. One came by and told the table next to us that someone would be right with them. We were a little annoyed because we hadn’t even been asked for drinks yet but we’re hoping for it to come around because pizza sounded great. A waitress came by the table next to us and ordered their drinks. Talked a bit then left. Another waitress brought them some bread five minutes later as well as extra plates for them. The hostess as well as two waitresses (multiple times) walked by and looked at us at our table and went back inside. No drinks, no «we’ll be with you shortly,» nothing.
Decided to get up and leave.

My husband and I love Sammys. We come here frequently. The salads are amazing. I love the chopped chicken with olive. My husband always orders the Hawaiian pizza. We took or grand daughter here in the summer and when she returned to visit for the holidays Sammys was first on her list of places she wanted to go. I also want to say that our favorite waitress Alexis works here. She not only remembers us when we come in, she remembers what we. Liken to eat and drink. That makes us feel at home there.

We came to Sammy’s for the great quality food. We tried this one after moving from Scripps Ranch to San Marcos. Then we met Karen our Server, wow! What an amazing personality full of life, a servant heart, and happiness! She pushed our rating from 4 to 5 ‘s! Her level of care shows in Her attention to detail, amazing memory, and loving spirit. We came for the great food, but we return now and will wait 60 minutes if we have to so We get to enjoy Karen’s spirit along with our fare!

Tried to give Sammy’s another chance… I can’t believe they changed their Happy Hour!!! Literally spent $ 12.00 on three bites of food. Their happy hour tapas are ridiculous, they are literally one small bite each, and each tapa is around 3 – 4 dollars. Why did they have to change their happy hour??? The happy hour here is not worth it!!! The portions of food that they give you is teeny tiny. Why change a good thing? Come on Sammy’s… I tried to give you another chance and once again you blew it? The service was horrible as well. :(Never again! Please change your happy hour back the way it was… the way it is suppose to be!

We ate here tonight and really enjoyed the food. Also Karen provided excellent service. I strongly suggest getting the duck tacos. They are so good. I had the burger and my wife had the chopped salad. The burger was perfectly cooked and I would get it again.

I was extremely disappointed in the food. I ordered their angel haired pasta with shrimp, goat cheese pizza and balsamic chicken salad. I’ve had the pasta dish at other Sammy’s and have really liked it but this time it just didn’t measure up. The pasta was overcooked, the sauce, the meat and vegetables were unevenly season. Some bites had no flavor and other bites tasted like you were biting simultaneously on three cloves of garlic. Even the salad was over dressed, a sure sign of slothful cookery.
The truth is this place can do a lot better. The reason I went there in the first place was because I had been really impressed by their food on previous occasions. They just need to up their game.

I came in here on a VERY busy Saturday night and let me tell you… I have not received such exceptional service as I did here last night. Karen was me and my boyfriends server. She had amazing recommendations and was very attentive and engaging. She recommended the duck tacos and arugula pear pizza to share. Food and service was absolute perfection. Thank you Karen for really making our experience one to remember!

The tapas are all great. Love the Mediterranean dip sampler. It is enough to share with several people. The balsamic chicken salad never disappoints and any of their pizzas are great.
Save room for dessert. The Sunday is to die for but again this is something to share.

Sammy’s is so much more than great pizza. We come here for the salads and unique appetizers. What sets this location apart is their knowledgeable servers, particularly Alex, who treats us with such care and warmth we feel like family.
Favorites are the Chinese chicken salad, meatballs, chili and soups. For those who can’t have gluten the brown rice penne and gluten free pizza are top-​notch. The staff and kitchen are well trained in feeding people safely.

There’s something to be said about consistency. Although Sammy’s interior doesn’t wow me, nor do most of the things on their menu — because I’m not a huge pizza fan… their food is consistently fresh and well prepared.
You simply cannot go wrong with their white balsamic chicken salad. The greens are crisp and very chilled, the dressing is usually put on with just the right touch, never drowning the leaves or dry in areas. The chicken is cooked perfectly and with just the right amount of seasoning and char. The combination of flavor with the gorgonzola and walnuts isn’t necessarily mind blowing, but it’s totally delicious.
Portion sizes are very generous (not claim jumper gluttony here, but a good amount nonetheless) and the restaurant and bathrooms are always clean and well tended to.
Sammy’s is the perfectly corporate place to come grab lunch with a girlfriend, business lunches or dinners, or just a good meal out. I am all about supporting and trying local establishments rather than chains, but you can’t deny a good thing.

In the last month, I’ve called in an order for take out and it was quick and easy. I paid for and picked up my order at the bar and the employees are always friendly. The food is fresh and delicious.

We just love this place. Outside seating is a must!!! The food is fantastic. We always start out with the Chopped Salad and then the pizza. Tonight we had the Thai Chicken pizza on Whole Wheat crust. Extra Crispy. Our waitress Karen was phenomenal! The extra care she gives you. The suggestions are great. We ordered drinks and the Chopped Salad right away. We were starving! She got the salad out right away. Then ordered the pizza. Second glass of wine she asked, YES I said. What service! ! Like having a private server!!!

Karen was an amazing server. Incredibly personable, offered great suggestions, witty, and made for a most pleasurable dining experience. My girlfriend and I came here after a long day at work. I was not in the greatest of moods. Karen’s warm and energetic disposition immediately changed my attitude. Food was great, thanks to her suggestions, beer was great as well.

My Bride and I had dinner at Sammie’s last night. The food was great and our server was awesome Her name was Kristi-​Marie She had a great personality and she was the best

This past weekend, I was in San Marcos for a lunch for a wedding rehearsal. The bride and groom chose this place because of the vicinity of the location and the quality of food.
We arrived early, and were put on the patio for the group occasion. We asked the manager for water and sat out there for about 20 minutes before anyone would bring anything out. Since this was a Saturday and I would assume there would be more staff, I was completely disappointed in the experience.
The food finally came out, one hour after our scheduled time (we arrived at 12 – 1230, it was scheduled for 1 for us to arrive, and the food came out around 2pm) AND the food came out very slowly. The pizza was also slightly cold. 2 salads and one kind of pizza were put in the middle table. The manager and a staff member seemed that we were completely inconveniencing them. We only asked for water because we showed up early, and were told we had to wait 30 minutes before another staff member came on. Then, when we went inside to request glasses of water for the elderly members of our group and that was like pulling teeth.
Additionally, the food was so-​so. The pizza and salads were lackluster and not great. I would not recommend this place for their food or for group occasions. They really do not accommodate.

I came here with my wife last week for a to go order, Steve the GM there and Courtney were both super friendly! They made the experience here wonderful for the both of us. The pizzas that we ordered were also very good! The Pear Gorgonzola and a BBQ chicken pizza, I recommend both… and also the cracker bread!

We used to always come here when me and my hubby were dating! Good pizzas!
They have a $ 10 lunch special that’s a small personal pizza and salad. Super good! I had the white pizza and it was delish with a Greek salad.
They have a patio too which is great!

Came here with my boyfriend for a quick bite to eat. We had never been here before and wanted to try it out.
We ordered the duck tacos after our server Ashleigh recommended them, and loved them! Great suggestion by her! For our meal we ordered the chicken tequila pasta, and a chopped chicken salad, which I highly recommend!
Our server Ashleigh was fast and efficient and very sweet! We also had another server, Jenni, come over to check on us which was very nice given she wasn’t even our server! We left feeling satisfied and our service was great! Will be back again!

This place is great! Fast service, big patio, and excellent food.
I enjoyed their chicken, fingerling potatoes, asparagus, pine nuts etc– said no pesto.
My husband had the spicy Italian sausage pizza and thought it was good.
They have a good happy hour we might try too.
