I went to this Payless a while ago to get some shoes for a wedding. The wedding was going to be outside and I needed something that wouldn’t aerate the soil as I walked around. Finding that I owned no nice flats, Payless was the first place I thought of to go to get a cheapo pair of shoes. Their selection is alright. It’s not a DSW, that’s for sure, but you can’t beat it for the prices. I ended up getting two pairs of shoes because they were having a buy one pair, get the other 50% off sale. They also have a fairly decent selection of other various cheap accessories such as purses, sunglasses, and jewelry. The store seemed well maintained and the sales associate on duty asked if I needed help when I walked in. In essence, it was a typical, uneventful trip to the shoe store. The one downside to this shopping venture was that, as I was checking out, the sales associate asked me for my zipcode and phone number. I’ve been asked for these things before at other stores and just assumed it was for some sort of geographic distribution database the store was using for marketing or something. I’m a biologist. What do I know about these things? However, a few days later I received a text message from Payless letting me know I’d been added to a list so I wouldn’t miss out on any store specials. Annoyingly, the text was filled with text shorthand, which drives me NUTS. It is NOT that hard to text out full words, especially when the message is AUTOMATED. Is the computer trying to save time? Does it have better things to do? Also, why is Payless texting me in the first place? We are not bff’s, Payless. I wasn’t even asked if I wanted to opt into this text list, I was just added to it without my knowledge. I guess giving them my phone number was considered consent? Just something to keep in mind for your next shopping excursion to Payless.
