Islay Hill is a perfect hill for regular workouts. My bro lives in the neighborhood below the little mound and when visiting, I regularly do a quick hikes up/down. It takes around and hour to do a 3 mile circuit with about 550 ft. of elevation gain. The views from the top are excellent — 360* sweeping views of the area. Yes, some say Islay isn’t as big, hikes as long or views as spectacular as other hills/hikes, but I think it’s pretty cool for a neighborhood hill. 5 stars

A nice little hill to hike — the ninth of the«Nine Sisters»(a chain of nine volcanic peaks and hills) in San Luis Obispo County. While not as well known as the taller and more central Bishop Peak or Cerro San Luis Obispo, Islay Hill affords great views from the southern end of San Luis Obispo. It also offers a great little fitness hike. There is a great deal more to this hike then I was led to expect. I’ll certainly hike it again and again. Extremely child-friendly.

Ventured up to SLO for 4th of July weekend. I had no idea there were so many hikes/trails in the area. Unilocaled a few… chose this one based on it not having any written reviews, but a few good photos. A little different since majority of my past outings have been Unilocaler reviewed and blah blah. Trail starts of smooth with little to medium incline. There’s a nice huge shaded area in the beginning. After that your pretty much cruising for a few miles with zero shade. Nice view as you make your way up. About ¾ of the way up is where it started to wear me down. Great workout if your jogging up. At the top there wasn’t much to offer. It ended quickly. There was half of a telephone post… alright then I’ll take it. LOL. I think I over hyped this trail up because it was my first time, but once at the top I realized it was just ok. I’d consider this a better trail to train on rather than plan a hike. 3.5
