When I ordered a macchiato the lovely lady at the register informed me that a macchiato is, in fact, a drink that Starbucks made up… she is very wrong. They insisted on calling the drink a vanilla latte with foam. The coffee was okay. Super pretentious staff and atmosphere.

This place is wonderful! All of the baristas are friendly, and the specialty drinks are amazing. Get the dirty chai latte with a twist of orange(I think it’s the Catherine). Also, best brownies I’ve ever had.

I always look for the non $tarbucks in town and found this fun place. Friendly barristas recommended the caramel Blackhorse freeze and it is good, a bit sweet but that is expected. Great charging stations available. They offered me the left over freeze, nice touch. The pastry was fresh and warm. I will come again if i am on this end of town but Kreuzbergs is still my fave.

There should be a rule about checking for fly infestation. This coffee shop is selling bakery that displays the pastries in a glass case INFESTED with flies and gnats and no one seems to mind. I was going to purchase a pastry but when she took it out of the case, there were flies underneath the pastry, so I changed my mind and chose only a coffee.

Best iced espresso in all of SLO! All the help always has positive energy That’s a rare trait in a college town too! Run don’t walk if you need that instant kick of the drink we all do adore

BlackHorse is overpriced for the kind of coffee you’re getting, but usually I’m a sucker for this place. I’m extremely a sucker for their caramello’s. The reason I’m giving them a 2 stars is because the last 3 times I went, they ran out of caramel. I was told that they make their own caramel, but who knows if that’s true. As far as atmosphere, I really like studying here. It’s pretty nice and not too noisy. You have to buy a drink in order to use the wifi and it only lasts for 2 hours. Unfortunately they’re not open that late either. One time we came before closing and they said they were closed. Lame. I like this place but they also give me a lot of reasons to not be thrilled.

I absolutely love the Blackhorse location on Higuera and Broad Street. This location is slow, drinks are done out of order, and they are not the nicest people.

The filled croissants are sublime. Coffee is good, they are dog friendly, and they often have some cool/funky local art hanging on the walls. Support the locals!

One of the many good local coffee places in SLO. Black horse is sort of known for doing good foam on their lattes, they do a good job with lattes for sure, but also have tasty mochas. It isn’t the greatest coffee, other places are better and rely on syrups lees, but just the plain coffee(or unflavored latte) is strong and fresh enough that it doesn’t need sugar. Pastries are good, not baked on site so they can taste a little old, but not stale, just not super fresh. Overall a good place and one thing I like about this particular location is they have a little sun room that’s nice to sit at and enjoy drink.
