San Lorenzo Community Center Park

This review is specifically for the service we received at the community center.
AHMAD & CHRIS were our building coordinators for my sister & her fiancé’s wedding shower. We arrive promptly at 12 to set up only to be told that we cannot be let in unless the permit was present. UNDERSTANDABLE. & Chris being the nice guy he is stated that he will let us set up as long as the permit holder shows up ASAP. Cool, no prob!
We rented from 1 – 5, & everything ran smoothly up until 4:45, AHMAD comes around & starts yelling at us to clean up. we have 15 mins to get out. Um, excuse you? Who are you to talk to ANYONE like that? So my sister tries to put a handle on the situation & he says we need to be out of here before he calls the Park Ranger on us. & as soon as her fiancé hears that, he talks to him personally, but the little prick decides to WALK AWAY while her fiancé is talking to him. WHAT ARE YOU. A CHILD? My goodness… so then he comes around AGAIN & ANNOUNCES to our party, YOU HAVE 5 MINUTES TO GET OUT OF HERE BEFORE I CALL THE PARK RANGER.
Now my dad is pissed & tried to speak with him away from everyone. All the while everyone is now scrambling and worried that we’ve cause the non-​existing problems, AHMAD’s ol’ scardy cat self WALKS AWAY AGAIN.
We all wanted to find him and talk to him. Little boy was hiding out in the locked office where we couldn’t see him.
DON’T START NO STUFF, WONT BE NO STUFF.
so we get out of there at 5:05. BIG WHOOP, we’re over by 5 mins. PLEASE CALL the park ranger so we can tell them how you’re harassing us & stirring up trouble.
As soon as we all leave, the park ranger shows up & speaks with her fiancé. Chris had be waiting patiently with him & vouched that the service we had was unacceptable & they were called for no reason.
As for AHMAD, if you’re going thru some SH*T, leave that at the DOOR!!! What was supposed to be a fun and loving time for our family was turned into an ALMOST BRAWL trying to clear up a non-​existing issue.

San Lorenzo Community Center:
Today we celebrated my daughters wedding shower. It went very smooth until we start cleaning up. We rented the center from 1−5pm. We’re rushing to get out of there in a timely manner until this guy AHMAD start messing with my daughter. Telling her that «you got one minute to clean up or i will call the park ranger «. I can’t believe what my daughter told me, AHMAD being a jerk, threatening my daughter about that. That guy should’ve given a suspension for disorderly conduct & no respect for the people using the center. I’ll try to call their supervisor, human resources et al to report this matter. What a waste of our TAX paying that stupid, no respect employee. A message for you young man, if you don’t like/​love your job– QUIT! I hope the Hayward Recreational Center read this review & do some action on that guy. WE’LL NEVER EVER RENT THAT FACILITY AGAIN & THE WORD WILL SPREAD! I hope that this review will be a heads up for other people…

For some reason this park has been going down hill since I’ve moved to the neighborhood two years ago. The duck pond is dirty unfortunately and no one cleans up the waste. It’s not a pleasant place to walk.
They removed the trees on the west side of the park making it a very unpleasant walk on a dirt trail in the blinding sun. Most of the people are nice in the park but the soccer players often leave trash and carelessly kick the balls towards the walking trail.
There is an off leash dog area but it’s often dry and dusty since all the trees have been removed on that side of the park.
I have often seen volunteers or employees picking up trash in the park and I think there is onsite management that lives there so I’m not sure why things are going downhill.
I have read about plans for renovations so perhaps they are not spending money until then.

This place has a turf field to play soccer. They have bathrooms at both ends of the park. There’s plenty of parking. There’s a lot of duck poop. So, be careful walking around the area.

This is a beautiful park built by fellow San Lorenzoans for the enjoyment of the local SLZ community. Our great San Lorenzo Duck Pond is in the shape of Snoopy from Peanuts. It has been said that Charles M Schulz (creator of Peanuts) requested that it be in that shape. I grew up in San Lorenzo and my family & I have enjoyed this wonderful community park for many years.
The Hayward Area Recreational District is spending an initial $ 8 (and upwards of $ 16 million to finish) to destroy the original pond and build Softball and Soccer fields. They should use that $ 8 million to upgrade the existing park which serves the community just fine and be done with it. I am saddened & sickened by this turn of events. It’s a great, unique pond/​feature of San Lorenzo and should be kept for future San Lorenzoans to enjoy!
It’s a travesty and the Hayward Area Recreational District should be ashamed of themselves for ignoring 3,000 signatures to SAVE the San Lorenzo Duck Pond.
If future generations are reading this and the pond is gone. I’m sorry I tried and not all of us wanted a GIANT Sports Complex in San Lorenzo.

This park offers a nice place with a pond and an off-​leash enclosure. However, inside the gated area is dirty and several times had mud and guck. Also, at this park I had several agressive dog encounters, and my pitbull was attacked on two seperate times.
More than anything, I believe its the owners who do not take thr safety precautions or clean up after their dogs. Even though, this park has a lot of potential. My dogs love watching the geese that inhabit the park. Actually, I have to becareful because the geese are rather aggressive. If you look closely into the pond you may see the turtles living in the pond, and that is always like a little treasure.

I walk around the park 3 – 4 days a week in the morning before work. I think the place is charming. There is an abundance of interesting birds and other critters to look at. I think the place is very peaceful and quiet, especially at 6:30 — 7:00 AM on a weekday. No complaints.

Smaller, local park tucked in a neighborhood. It could be a little hard to find.
Large grassy area, kid’s play ground, basketball courts and two fenced in dog park areas.
There is a paved road for walking around the pond. Beware of the geese they are everywhere and so are their droppings. Beware of your step!
The park attendant lives next door. The gates close at sunset. I found out the hard way long ago and got locked in haha, oops!
There are rooms to rent for b-​day parties, get togethers, receptions and ect.
Plenty of parking and not as crowded compared to other parks.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid. Its a great relaxing walk. Lots of different types of ducks and birds and a great walk for your dogs too!
The only problem is that people don’t know how to pick up their own garbage after «soccer day». There’s is garbage all over the field. Who does that? I mean are you people a bunch of primative neanderthal monkeys or something?!
Do yourself a favour (if you’re have no good grooming habits or respect for the environment), dig a hole in your backyard, go play soccer or have your bbq’s in there and throw all the garbage you want in there! You can play in your own trash. You can even build yourselves a home out of all the trash you leave. How bout that!

I am mostly reviewing the dog park.
The large dog area is a decent size, with some anemic grass, a few trees and some dirt. There is also drinking water for the dogs. The small dog area has better grass and seating, but is quite small. I’ve also noticed that in the large dog area people clean up the poop, but not at all in the small dog area.
This park is pretty busy every time I go, with lots of folks out with their dogs. But I would say one in 10 dogs actually come into the fenced in area. Most people just walk by. I end up leaving after half an hour, most of the time after no play time with my dog. If I wanted to just throw a ball, I could do that in my back yard. I was disappointed that the park was that underutilized.
On another note, there is a very large pond in the center of the park that houses a bunch of water birds (ducks, geese, etc). I’ve taken my kids there a couple times with stale bread and they love feeding the ducks. There is a great deal of bird poop about, so you have to be prepared for that.
The two star rating is mostly because nobody ever comes to the dog park.

«I smell Uncle Jeff,» says the positively correct boy to my right carefully avoiding the poop on the walkway. The distinct smell of weed lingered as we continued walking.
«Baby, just keep walking.»
«Yuck! I don’t like this place anymore, mommy,» says the boy who has now just stepped into an unavoidable puddle of slimy green and gray poo.
«Babe, stop running you might fall into some poop.»
Two minutes later, clearly unimpressed and slightly disappointed I brought him here, «Mom, can we get a slurpee now?»
«Yes. Yes we can.»
This place is fine if you stick to the community center, the soccer field or the small playground. If you go anywhere near goose poop island, you’ll be stuck cleaning your shoes for at least five minutes in clean grass before you get back into your car.

Yes, this park may not blhave lush landscaping and the animAls that inhabit the park do leave messes behind, but for a park in San Lorenzo– a town that receives no city revenue, because it is NOT a city at all, Its an enjoyable spot for the community.
Awesome soccer fields that are always in use by organized teams, locals or families playing football, a mice play structure for the kids, a fenced area for dogs and an interesting trail that loops the boarded of the park.
They do what they can to keep it clean, but with all the birds: ducks, geese, and seagulls calling this place home — it does get messy. And this, of corse doesn’t include the pet owners who do not clean up after their pets (which speaks to the owners rather than the park)
I go hear often because it’s just a block from my home. I always see a park worker and, or a volunteer spraying down the walkways, cleaning graffiti, cleaning dog poop or replacing dog doody bags.
Yes, there are nicer parks to visit, nut where else can you bring honey bring our 90 lab to run around with other dogs while the kids feed the ducks and mom runs the trail? Then we all meetup at the playground. Fun!

Not the prettiest or nicest dog park around. It’s basically a fence, with a bucket of water and 3 benches to sit on. But hey… my dogs enjoy it. They run loose and come back home tired. Mission accomplished.

I have to admit that this is not one of the nicest dog parks around. But, it’s the only one close enough to home to visit after work. I really wish the parks department would take better care/​improve this dog park. But, I’m sure it’s not in the budget.
However, the people and dogs that come here are friendly. Usually the same folks @ the same times.
Basically, a good place to exercise your dog, but nothing fancy.

I took my dog there 3 times. I liked it cause it was small I could see her at all times– no bushes to obstruct my view. But I have safety issues I want to share with you.
First of all, the walking path goes parallel to the dog park. I saw a father pushing a stroller along and a dog ran up to the fence and was barking at the child. The child was maybe 2 and was scared to death. I saw a jogger chased along the fence by another dog. It’s just not safe, in my opinion to have the walking trail so close to the dogs.
Secondly, the park is way back from the parking lot. Which sounds great, right? I was bit there the other day, had left my cell in the car and was pouring the blood from my face. You may laugh at me saying this but I am very serious– if the dog had hit the jugular, I would have bled out before help could have arrived. Please, please, please think about this and take it seriously.
Think safety first when going to any dog park, but especially this one.

I used to like this park before but now it is so congested on the weekends and the pleasant walks that I was able to take before are no longer available. The park of course to get get $$ have soccer games on the weekends and the quiet peaceful place i used to take my kids is not a fam favorite any more. It has gotten pretty ghetto and on the weekends I can hear them from my back yard playing soccer. There are still lots of people that go there but we stay away now. It’s dirty and they don’t maintain it anymore like they used to.

There is nothing spectacular about this park, but it has ample outdoor space and a playground. Great if you want to relax by the duck pond or near the play structures. In the middle of the park, there is also a community center even though this review is not about it.
It has a basketball ball court and ample room for soccer. It also has multiple bathrooms and decent facilities.
Perhaps my favorite thing about this park is the duck pond. As a child I would see the baby ducks chasing mommy duck around the pond and even a few geese and a turkey (if not a turkey a bird that looks a lot like one). Bring some bread to feed the ducks and relax with a book in your hand. Maybe bike ride the paths.

Crabgrass, dusty trails, weeds, and more weeds!
This park is definitely not in its heyday anymore, it is not picturesque or beautiful, and hasn’t been maintained very well. Especially in comparison with the golf course next door.
We went here for the dog run area and the small dog area is teeny tiny! No dog would get any exercise in that area at all … so we took our dog to the large dog side and let him run in the dust and sniff in the weeds.
I am very disappointed in this park, though it was neat to see people making use of the soccer field. I will not come here again.

ALL I can about this park is YUCK!
I feel sooo bad for the park employees who have to clean up the bird shit… Eeewwwww!
It just soooo NASTY to walk on the walkways.
Don’t forget about the dog shit too!
People are soooo damn lazy for not picking up their dog shit and there’s about 4 places to get the dog bags.
It greats to see kids playing on the playground and the adults playing soccer on the fields.
Also, there is a community center to rent out for a day to have wedding receptions, parties, and business occassions which is pretty cool.

The trails need to be fixed. Twice, I’ve nearly taken a fall into the pond thanks to the uneven trails. And, I can’t swim. My weakness exposed! Jogging should never be this dangerous. This place also has a dog park. I find my pooch doing side steps and hop-​scotch moves to avoid steppin’ on any feces. He knows better than to step on any and bring that crap in my car or home.

Ok. I’m only rating this for the dog park.
It is broken up into 2 areas– for big dogs and for small ones.
Both sides are pretty small and when I was there, the small side was so flooded, you could not use it unless you had a miniature water dog. Half of the big dog side is covered with crushed granite and the other part is mostly grass. They have a couple of benches around the edge and water is available.
2-​stars: It doesn’t get more because there just isn’t anything memorable here. I’d only come back if I happen to move close to here. Otherwise, there are many better choices.
