Just called in to see if they sold root vegetables. The person that answered the phone was very helpful. I was looking for horseradish. She told me if I buy it organic at the grocery store, then I can replant it because it won’t have any root growth inhibitors. She told me they have a great selection of winter vegetables, such as kale, which I will be sure to check out soon.

My husband & I contracted with evergreen to landscape our garden in our new house. I had to beg them to start work. They put me off so long that it was already going into Autumn. They then did an uninspiring job and many of their plants died. They charged a lot of money and acted as though they were doing us a favor. Really stressed me out.

We had Evergreen landscape a three-tier terrace at the back of our house as well as replace the front lawn with a stone and shrub plan. Paul is the man to talk to. He will come out and look over your project, present a project plan that is clear about what plants will be used. He will present you with a cart with the actual plants chosen for the project. The overall plan and irrigation has worked well. It’s been a year and though my wife has made considerable changes to the terraced area, both front and back get compliments from passersby. The nursery is well-stocked with a variety of seasonal plants, Japanese maples, and other specimen plants including California natives. True of most nurseries, Paul can get you just about anything. If you’re into some planting/gardening yourself Evergreen has quality products for in-ground and potted plants.

I came here to browse for the new vegetable and herb garden I put together this spring. I needed tools, soil, seeds and plants and possibly advice but wasn’t pressed to buy everything at that exact moment. They have a lot of different types of shrubs, saplings, and herbs but still not much I wanted. Their flower selection left much to be desired. Many of the plants in stock were also scrawny and patchy looking. There were lots of overpriced pots and planters and then more mature trees toward the back though I didn’t venture out that way. After 20 minutes of browsing in various sections and not a single greeting from staff or offer to help or advise(too busy? understaffed?) I picked up a few odds and ends and headed to the counter. The cashier was waiting for another customer to return with her item and couldn’t seem to acknowledge me in the meantime. Once I did more garden shopping around I realized two of the three items I purchased were horribly overpriced and one of those broke within 3 months with minimal use. I’m still looking for a great nursery nearby. This clearly isn’t it.

I really enjoy my visits to Evergreen Nursery. It is nice just to wanter around and find some new flower or ground cover or just the usual herbs. The best part about them is they always have what I need and today it was just bee and fly traps for our party to keep the critters at bay while we eat. The service is spectacular here. There is at least one plant expert and the other people are very helpful and friendly. The quality of their plants is awesome. I have never taken something home that did not grow and did not look well taken care of when I bought it from Evergreen. They give great advice when I have a plant problem, and whatever they recommend works. The prices are fair for the quality of merchandise. We got all of our initial plants from here back in 2010 when we planted our back yard garden, and they delivered our trees and shrubs, and gave us a whole bunch of points worth of discounts which lasted about 3 years after. I always go here when I need anything garden related. The gloves I bought three years back are still like new.

They have a wide collecting of plants, pot, and garden supplies. But the return policy is vague, said they are willing to take back plants within a year period, if it is proper, not something stupid done to the plants. I was under the impression, if the maple I bought there is not doing well, I could still return it, so I gave it a try, for a new gardener like me, that’s a good start. But when I realize my maple is not doing well with the hot weather I am living in, and scared it will not survive, all I wanted to do is to return, but they talked so well to turn down my idea. So If you are a beginner gardener, and before you buy plants here, you need to be sure that you will have the plant forever. Which is fine, no return after the two weeks period, I am very OK with that, I just don’t like it when they don’t honor what they posted out on the wall at the register. I rather look other directions for plants.

Great local nursery with a large selection of plants and trees. There’s really no reason to go to the garden section of big box stores with Evergreen nearby. Staff is helpful and friendly too. I can’t wait to go back to keep filling our yard up with unique plants!

I LOVE this nursery! Their customer service goes above and beyond every time. All of them have been very helpful with my million questions, and never once have I ever felt like I was being a burden. Their prices seem about average, a little pricier then Home Depot, but you can see the difference in better overall quality of all their plants/trees. I would just also like to say Thank You to Barbara, she’s amazing, straightforward and extremely knowledgeable.

I just went here for the first time and I’ll definitely be back. They offer quality, advice, courteous customer service and a very good selection. I thought prices were reasonable for the quality of the items I purchased. You’ll pay a bit more than Home Depot, but they offer sustainable, non GMO varietals that won’t kill you, so there’s that. :)

These guys rock! You can tell they love what they do. Bought our first tree here. Few months later and the tree is doing great. They when out of their way to make the process easy. Delivering our tree to Oakland when they normally don’t. The delivery guy, who was also a sales guy even dropped it into our super steep back yard! Support Local. Buy your tree here instead of Home Depot.

Beautiful nursery. It was mostly outdoors, which I love. * They have plenty of options for native and water wise plants, which is great for a person who is conscious of what they put in their garden. * Their succulent section was darling, albeit small. * There were tons of vegetable plants to pick from — some of which I had never even heard of! * Towards the back there are some mature trees. They look absolute lovely and healthy. * The indoors and had indoor plant options as seeds * The lady working at the desk was very helpful with all of my questions. All in all, a great place to drop by even if it’s just for a quick peak of some nature!

Great Nursery, they have a great selection of trees, flowers and produce plants. I bought two blueberry bushes my first trip here thanks to a gift card. I’ve been back a few other times for soil, tools and flowers. They basically have everything you’d need to get a garden started. Good service!

Just had a great experience here. The people are very helpful, selection is good and plants appear well-cared for. One star off for a rude cashier, but the other three employees I worked with were knowledgable and very friendly.

If you are buying plants in the east bay, this is one of the best places. I think this place is comparable to the Berkeley Horticultural Nursery, well, almost. I think in general Berkeley Horticultural Nursery may have better selections but Evergreen has better pricings, that’s my general understanding. They are always helpful to us, and we can ask some basic questions. Staffs are quite helpful in general and they can even tell us things like«Oh if you want to buy trees don’t buy now, we recommend you coming back in January because we will get more of these trees» etc. I appreciate all these things Evergreen offers.

I used to love Evergreen, came here many, many times for my DIY front yard and back yard projects, bought over $ 400 of stuff here such as plants, organic soil, bender boards, and tools… Until… DUNDUNDUN… My experience with the manager, Doug. Doug is the kind of person who doesn’t give a shit. After all my purchases and my many visits back, I had to return just 2 plants, just 2 darn plants that cost $ 8 each. Doug made a scene when he saw my plants and went on a rant about the plants: «they’re molded, you have NOT been taking care of them, and I can’t accept these». Making me feel like an irresponsible person… I explained to him that I planted these the SAMEWAY as all of my other plants, I don’t know why THESE just didn’t thrive, hence, my return. And I was told you could return withhin 30 days of purchase with a receipt. Which wouldn’t need any of my detailed explanation of my return and my mention of my many purchases… But with this man, I had to… He would not look me in the eyes, and kept saying the same thing. He finally gave in, and reluctantly, let me exchange for the same type of plant. Not that I wanted them again, but I had to compromise… Bad managerial manners. I’m taking my business elsewhere… Other staff members are great and super nice though! Hence the 1 star for great friendly staff, 0 star for manager.

This business has a great selection as well as amazing staff. They are very willing to order items that are not in stock and they always have customer discounts. Their strawberry plants are my ultimate favorite to buy and plant!

I like this place: We purchased a white fig tree from there last year — and we already had fruit-soo awesome! The little tree has grown over 2.5 inches in 6 months! We do take care of it of course, but how many places do you know around here(East Oakland) who sell genoa fig? I don’t know any others. All in all the place is cool, I buy tons of organic soil for my veggies and herbs as well as chicken manure, organic plant food and last but not least — seeds(we grow everything from seeds!). They have a large assortment of organic and heirloom — moderately priced. I wish we can buy bulk Fox Farm from them. I didn’t give it a 5 star because, even though the employees are extremely helpful and will go the extra step to please/assist(as to find a hydroponics stores around!!) some of them are not as knowledgeable in terms of plants. I’m sure it takes time to form/educate the right person so kudos to this store! P. S. We are now planning to get a persimmon tree but not sure which is the right one for us. My hubby and I both love the«hard» fruit not the soft one. :) I will run to the nursery for help and hopefully will come back with another great review!

Always great place… Staff so friendly and helpful. Hubby and I come here often!!! Our Meyer lemon tree seems to be missing some bark like a little critter has been eating away… Will have to take into Evergreen they may know. Any ideas?

Everything we need for our yard. Plus amazing and helpful staff. They have everything one could want and/or need for flower gardens, veggie gardens, maintaining fruit trees, lawn care and more. They carry the frou frou organic all-natural products, including beneficial insects such as nematodes and ladybugs, as well as the down dirty chemicals to get rid of pests and boost production. The staff is very knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. They also offer weekend classes. Here’s hoping we will be harvesting garlic, carrots and beets in the near future.
