Thousands of Monarchs overwinter in the in Eucalyptus trees at the end of a private golf club in San Leandro. It is an amazing that these insects fly thousands of miles to return to this location every year. To see them, you must visit with a naturalist. I found the tour educational and interesting. The butterflies were hard for me to photograph. I did have trouble spotting them because they are at least 20 feet up in the tree and look like clusters of brown leafs. They do flutter about as the day warms up The walks are given from October through early December to book a tour call the San Leandro Parks and Rec. at(510) 577‑3462.
