TLC Pediatric Medical Group

I literally cannot recommend a pediatric practice as highly as I recommend TLC Pediatrics. Dr. Carruth is the best of the best, and so is his full staff. From the front desk to all of the nurses, nurse practitioners and doctors, they provide the best care and always go above and beyond. They have treated everything from febrile seizures in my son (and Dr. Carruth actually came to his daycare and hospital personally when it happened), RSV and asthma in my daughter (Dr. Carruth also came to CHOC to visit her), to passing out spells in my newborn (caused by a drop in heart rate during feedings, which he would soon grow out of, that no one else could figure out). I am so incredibly grateful for this practice and to Dr. Carruth for providing the finest medical care to my children, as there is almost nothing more important than your children’s health in life.

Both my kids have been going here for about 3 years now. I am very, very happy with the great care they have received throughout the coarse of those 3 years. My 6 year old started coming here when he was about 3 ¹⁄₃ years old, after switching providers, and my now 18 month old as well, since the day he was born. They genuinely care and Dr Carruth takes the time to talk to you about literally anything that concerns you as a parent, and always has a personal story of his or example to provide about his kids as well, and never makes you feel like your question is dumb or he is in a rush to get you out of there. That makes an excellent doctor, in my opinion. His experience and wisdom is a great plus as well. He is not bubbly at all or over the top perky, but trust me when I say, that none of that matters once you start talking to him and he actually wants you to follow up and call his office if anything worsens with your child or if you have further concerns. All his staff is just as awesome! The girls at the front desk are all soo helpful, as are the medical assistants. Just to add to this review, just for the heck of it.
There was a time my baby had horrible diarrhea/​diaper rash with blisters for 2 weeks straight and we couldn’t figure out what it was. Dr Carruth had me bring him in every 3 days for those 2 weeks, just to follow up and to have him tested for everything, including a poop test, switched up his formula, gave me about 3 cans of sample formula so I wouldn’t have to spend extra money on the enfamil/​nutramigen formula for those two weeks. Dr. Carruth even followed up on weekends. Yes, ladies and gentleman, on a weekend! He would call just to check on my son and see if anything worsened and instructed me on what to do, etc, Dr. Carruth is literally the BEST doctor I have ever encountered. Eventually my baby got better and it ended up just being a bug that was going around, but nonetheless, the care he received was just beyond words, extraordinary! I, of coarse had to get Dr. Carruth a nice card and small gift in return! He definitely deserved it!

Greatest staff I’ve ever encountered. Some of the women have been there since I first started going there — 9 yrs., which I think says a lot. Always get back to you & seem to truly care! Front desk, nurses, and especially Wendy… The Best!

I called our insurance and the office ahead of time to verify fees before taking our son in when he was very sick. Upon arrival I verified office visit fees again. The doctor was nice and spent about 20 minutes with us and did a urine test for dehydration. At check out the receptionist was unsure what I owed and asked me what I was told. I said I was told the office visit fee was $ 160 and my copay was $ 35. She said ok that sounds right. I felt as though I could have said anything. A few weeks later I get a bill for additional payment and when I called I was told that there is an extra fee for new patients not covered by insurance. I told them I asked several times and was never informed and their only reply was that the front desk doesn’t know because «they aren’t billing». They were unwilling to work with us even though they admitted I was misinformed by their staff. Somewhat typical for a doctor’s office but disappointing none the less.

I am befuddled and confounded that there aren’t more reviews here. I am 33 years-​old and Dr. John Carruth was my pediatrician, he was also the pediatrician to my son until we moved.
He is the best and I truly believe his entire staff of doctors, nurses, and staff are caring, kind, knowledgeable, and considerate.
Dr. Carruth will talk openly with you about controversial issues such as circumcision or vaccines, he will tell you his honest, well educated opinion, site the proper sources, but never place you under judgment or scrutiny.
TLC is easy to get into in an urgent situation. Everyone on staff had been there for me at one point or another.
I have even called Dr. Carruth to run things by him other doctors have recommended for me or my son. I have had long talks with him about lots of things.
I measure every doctor against my experience with him and consider myself lucky to have been cared for my him.

We took our wee one here for the first 18 months, before relocating to the Beverly Hills.
I cannot say enough about this place. I have never had a problem with a wait, even on sick visits when I didn’t really have an appointment. We initially had Dwayne Dyer, who no longer works there and he was decent enough of a doctor. He definitely made me happier than the very first pediatrician we used right after our child was born.
But one visit we had to see Dr. Jon Conti and my life was changed. He walked in and with this very laid back way he made me feel so comfortable. I am so incredibly anal and picky that laid back people usually make me cringe but he was ready for someone like me surprisingly. He made me know that he understood how it was to be a new first time parent of an infant and that if at ANY time I felt like I needed my child to be seen to call in. He stated that sometimes one parent feels one way and the other feels the opposite. He said to just bring the child in anytime one person was concerned. It’s not to say that he was acting money hungry in the least, it was a way that he really sounded like he wanted to make our infancy transition as easy and comfortable as possible. Lord knows with the lack of sleep in first time parents what crazy stuff we could worry about, but this definitely put my mind at ease.
They are an office that does recommend vaccinations but if you are in fact one of those that wants to risk it and not vaccinate they will also accept that. The office is located within a minute of the 5 freeway and they have ample parking in an outdoor parking lot. With being next to a freeway you’d think it would be so noisy and grimy but it’s not. it’s quaint and has a lot of charm. There are no stairs to climb, elevators to get locked in or anything. The place almost looks like what would be found in a little beach community next to the water, little bungalow style offices.
I really miss this place.
