I got a sandwich there. They give a lot of meat, pâté is good but bread is old. It was hard. I’ve had old bread before so I know what is old bread. There was a pepper stem in my sandwich. Can’t believe they even put that in. Not going there again. They do make it fast. I was in and out in 5 mins. Good luck finding parking during weekend. The chicken wings were tiny and it’s 75 cent a piece.

It’s the best place in San Jose for Vietnamese desserts, sticky rice, and fried or fresh tofu. I’ve tried many places. They also have pre-wrapped take out meals at very reasonable prices. Their block of fried tofu is a must try especially for vegetarians. It’s is delicious with perfect consistency. Every time I come here I buy some for me but also for several non-vietnamese neighbors. They speak limited English but are very friendly.

This shop is located in a tiny plaza across the street from Grand Century plaza(where Lee’s Sandwiches is). Parking is limited and the stalls are fairly narrow. Strictly to-go as there are no tables inside or outside. Order banh mi sandwiches at the cashier counter. Want che, fried goods, or dessert drinks? Get it at the counter on the right. The hot foods(fried tofu, chicken wings, banh cuon) are sold by weight. If you come later in the day. the pre-wrapped meals, che, fried goods, and dessert drinks are gone so go early or keep your expectations low on the amount of goods available. A lot of times you can get cut in line when you’re trying to pay or order, so be alert & aggressive if need be! Few items I saw on the table: Banh beo(pork buns), banh beo(steamed rice flour pancake), banh cuon(fresh spring roll), goi bo kho(green papaya salad w/Vietnamese Jerky), xoi(sticky rice), banh duc man(salted rice flour cake), banh bot loc(shrimp mochi dumpling) Generally pretty good sandwiches. Large and packed. Doesn’t have the good pâté like Phat Tri but since their sandwiches are smaller and now $ 5, Thanh Son is a better value if you want something filling. Employees speak very limited English. Cash only

Thanh Son is a sandwich/dessert shop with tons of variety. They did an expansion a couple years ago so now it’s twice the size! …there are usually 1 – 2 folks outside asking for money upon arrival… :/ .I don’t think there’s A/C but they constantly have big fans running in the store. Parking can be a little tricky in their tiny parking lot. Iced Vietnamese Coffee is very good at $ 3. Cash only!

We were on the search for ham chin peng(fried flat hollow donut) for my mom but a lot of places sold out and the language barrier was a bit challenging. When we finally came here, the staff were friendly and helpful. I think they’re Chinese-Vietnamese because they were able to tell us it’s called bahn tieu in Vietnamese and patiently repeat it to us multiple times so we can learn the name. Yay for bahn tieu! We bought a bunch of stuff but their freshly squeezed sugar cane juice with the recommended kumquat for flavoring was so refreshing on such a hot treasure hunt sort of day. And they’re so nice!

One of my favorite for fried tofu and Vietnamese deserts. I usually only get sandwiches from phat Tri but decided to give them a try today. It is comparable if not better. For $ 1 more, it’s a larger sandwich with more meat @ $ 3.50. Flavor is well seasoned and fresh. Check out the photo.

I have mixed feeling about this place. Here’s why. Parking sucks. Tho, they do reserve some parking for their customers so it’s not a big deal, just getting there sucks, this part of Vietnam town is ALWAYS in heavy traffic. The place is big with many sorts of food to chose from, which is good. But there is absolutely no way to know where the line starts and ends. Hard to describe but it’s hard to know if I am cutting someone or someone is cutting me. Pros: everything I bought was very good. Better quality than Lee’s or Dakao Cons: — they don’t have price tag on anything! Like what if I only have $ 20 cash, I won’t know if I have enough?! — the sugar cane was a rip off. It was good but rip off. It was not cheap(but I don’t know how much it costs… because nobody tells me nor there was a price tag, I assume it was in the $ 3−4ish.), but 90% ice, 10% sugarcane. For real! Ughh

This is a honest review. Yes their che is good, but why can’t They have like a marker line like Lee’s sandwich in milpitas, so everybody can just line up. These older woman love to cut in front of you and have No manners. I was taught to give courtesy to elders so I held my tongue but it start to get fustrating. I dunno, I came to order some fresh banh cuon n for 1lb It’s, 4.25. Rip off, go to duc huong, 2 lb is $ 5.00. Service is OK, It’s not their fault but this place attracts all these crazy ass No manner ppl who think the world is going to end n this place is the last place to get food. I paid, step outside n Thank God for fresh air. My food didn’t even matter anymore after that ordeal.

i found this place through a coworker a little over a year ago when i was in search of a decent viet sandwich. they have since expanded their menu and added more sandwiches to the mix. the prices are decent. and even though the workers can barely understand/communicate in English. I am always able to get my order in without too much hassle. but then again, I frequent this place so much, they almost alway know what I want as soon as I walk in anyway.(which is nice that they recognize their regulars) ;) the lady that makes the sandwich is always super nice. the one at the register seems a little harsh sometimes(especially if she is trying to figure out what you want) but is a super sweet lady as well.

Best place for Vietnamese drinks on any ocassion! Love their banh lot(grass jelly with coconut milk and sugar cane). I have yet to find anywhere in CA that can live up to this place. I haven’t tried anything else there but they do offer banh mi, banh beo, rice and many other dishes to take on the go. Cash only! Try their banh lot you will not be disappointed at all.

Came here for a late night dessert, and it was a very interesting experience. The place is pretty much a slice of Vietnam, and from a non-Vietnamese perspective who doesn’t speak Vietnamese, it was a bit off-putting trying to understand what was going on or what to order/how to go about ordering. The ladies behind the counter were busy putting things together or talking between themselves. My girlfriend had been there before, so she knew what to do. After standing around for a while as the world around me revolved, we had our che in front of us, and were enjoying every delicious bite! They don’t skimp on anything, and the variety of ingredients makes it the best I’ve had in the US. Lots of different textures, and the drink itself doesn’t feel like pure sugar water like many restaurants that try to get in on the che scene. I’m a happy camper! I really want to peruse more around the shop, checking out all of their other goodies and tasty treats!

This place is the ! Been coming here since I was a little girl with my parents and I continue to come here for Che any chance I get. Their Che is way better than anything at Bambu and will not make you feel like you just ate a whole cup of diabetes. My favorite is the Che khoai mon, which is a sweet rice dessert with chunks of real taro and warm coconut milk on top… so delish! You really can’t go wrong getting any kind of Che though. They also have other snacks and Vietnamese dishes served in small serving plates. Their prices are very reasonable as well.

Mannn I was sooo disappointed in their banh mi. I took my friend here hoping to show him what a real Vietnamese sandwich is supposed to taste like. But the banh mi here were not very good. The sandwiches had too much bread in comparison to stuffing. The bread was not toasted very well and it was just soft and tough. It was a typical lunch hour on a Saturday so you’d think the bread would be fresh. They gave very little vegetables and very little meat, or it all just looked very little because there was so much bread. Also, my friend wanted spring rolls, but the spring rolls here looked super basic(shrimp, nem, some greens, and a lot of noodles). I was hoping for so much better, especially for a place in Vietnam Town basically. Next time we’ll just settle for Lee’s Sandwiches, or stay in East side and get Huong Lan Sandwiches. I really wanted to like this place…

Whenever I come here, the business name always reminded me of this lovely resort named«Thanh Son» in Phu Quoc Island during my vacations in Vietnam. If you’ve never been, think of blue skies and snorkel clear water with white sandy beaches! A must visit! Thanh Son is a stiff competition to Lee’s Sandwich which by the way, is right next door. They offer almost identical food to Lee’s Sandwich. They have expanded and knocked the next door wall down, to open up more room. Since then, they now provide cafeteria food, mostly fried like chicken, egg rolls, tofu, including their famous desserts. Locals flock here just for that! I come here usually for their shakes, fresh Soy Milk, and their dried sausage, with salted rice, topped with dried grounded pork. They do sell banh mi sandwiches too, but since Phat Tri is only a few blocks away, I go there instead. The ladies who works here are just super friendly. I just love them. Keep up the great work Thanh Son. You ladies are all ROCKSTARS! Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

Let’s see, I’m probably screwing up the names. Especially when accented Vietnamese English characters don’t show up like other FOBense languages(e.g. Japanese hiragana/kanji and Chinese) on reviews. Suong sa nuoc dua xiem — coconut jello, has at least two layers… the water and the milk with the meat. Good shit! Dau Hu Lanh — the name has a hint of Cantonese sounds to it. Essentially the tofu version of Cantonese/Taiwanese«almond tofu», a firm jelly/agar. It is a bit of an acquired taste. It is pricier than regular tofu custard, so if you’ve got some A$N cheapness gene in you(so cheap that you might look for and collect free meatballs scattered on the ground in various random parts of San Francisco), you might find this a rip off compared to regular tofu custard. Che — ahhh the Vietnamese dessert! Che ba ba was my intro to the real stuff. Warm coconut milk, very lightly sweetened with tapioca starch, those green jelly like thingies, sweet potato. It’s pretty good! But quite filling. Tofu custard — you have to ask for it behind the counter, in a large tin pot. Scooped up to order. Go earlier in the AM and get it fresh, otherwise afternoon is also ok. I’m sad to say that so called high end dim sum restaurants like Koi Palace, or even most Cantonese dessert shops that also do the fancy fun things that young A$N American females love to death, cannot even make a proper tofu custard to save their lives, and it has to be obtained from places like here to get something that’s really good quality. Now the ginger syrup here is a bit of an acquired taste… it is very ginger heavy, and aromatic. But it is a fantastic companion to the silky tofu custard. Young whole coconut, jello inside — it’s good stuff… but once you have the version at Brodard in the OC where the young coconut is even smaller, and the jello and meat are arranged to look almost like a flower that will almost make a grown person shed a tear(because it’s so damn pretty), it makes you wonder… why can’t we get that kind of craftsmanship up here :-( This deli really has a lot more to offer, but sampling a few things across two visits is not enough to get the full potential. If you want the true A$N experience, get in line here with more than a handful of purchases. Somehow grannies magically appear and cut you in line. Line? What line? Looks like two lines… then grannies form their own line! Three lines? WTF? Cuz dat’s how dey rollz. Whatchoo gonna do? Cuss em out Sound Of Music Style? Do Ma Ma? Rei So So? La Tea Tea? Sigh… just enjoy your purchases.

Thanh Son has prepped foods, prepped desserts, banh mi, che, foods in pans ready to scoop. went for a Luc Dinh KY «herbal tea»(2) instead. big mistake! –mostly crystal sugar, chysanthemum and sugar. 2 stars drips –4 stars for the uneaten prepped foods/desserts

I finally decided to check this place out, since I’ve been looking for a new Vietnamese sandwich place, near my house! Thanh Son is located in a small shopping plaza across Grand Century/Asian Plaza! The store is filled with pre-made Vietnamese food which steered me away from buying a banh-mi! I’m not sure how long they’ve been in business for, but this place is super clean!!! Everything on the table looked good, and I was trying not to eat with my eyes! I walked out of there with two items *phew*… It was pretty busy when I went, and there were people walking around pretty much not knowing where the line is. One of the ladies behind the counter saw me standing there, and knew I was next, so she waved at me and apologized for the chaos. I actually didn’t mind, but that was a nice gesture! I ended up getting the banh coun and one of the noodle plates!!! It was good! I will come back here and get a banh mi next time!
