I got the pork katsu bento dinner and it had so much food! My husband got a Hamachi roll and said it was very tasty. It’s a little more pricey than I’d like but it’s very good.

I really wanted to like this place, because it is in my neighborhood, an easy walk. I thought the prices were a bit high, but I was looking forward to trying the food. We arrived around 1:30 for lunch. My friend’s glass of soda was so full of ice it was transparent, and the rim had a nasty chip on one side. My bowl of miso soup arrived, and soup had spilled over one entire side, making an unsightly mess. I had to clean it myself with a napkin before I could eat it. My friend’s salmon sashimi was good and she enjoyed it. My chicken teriyaki was reheated, with dry, not-tender chicken pieces in a mediocre teriyaki sauce. My bowl of rice was barely half full; I requested more and they obliged at no additional charge. But when I tasted it, it seemed less than fresh. Our green tea was colorless and nearly tasteless, like drinking only hot water. I found out when we left that they close around 2:00, so I guess they were winding down when we arrived. But that is no excuse for the poor quality of the lunch, especially being so close to the selection of good restaurants at Japan Town, which is only a few blocks away. It galls me to have had to pay so much for such disappointing food. There are many better restaurant choices, and I will not eat here again.

Really great sushi. How do I know? Fresh high quality meat and master sushi shefs/architects. Check out this roll photo I just uploaded and judge for your self.

I ate here twice before. It is out side of my normal path, but stupid me decided to try the highway today. That didn’t last long. I saw this place so I pulled in. I find that pay for what you get here in San Jose. This place is good. One of the other poster said he finds it hard to believe this place isn’t teaming with patriots and he is right. I have never been here when it is packed. It is Thursday night about 8 pm. I am typically not a fan of fried or cream cheese when eating sushi, but tonight I am trying the Jalapeño bomb. It is about what I expect, but they are pretty. They are out of saba and aji. It will be the first time in a very long time that I have been to sushi place and not had the oily fish. I am happy to have this meal. They have the wheel of fortune playing on the tube.

I really don’t understand why this place isn’t packed with people. The sushi is by far better then any place around here… even Japan Town. Service is fast and the menu has a good variety. I’ve never seen a chef work harder and care more about his restaurant then here. Do yourself a favor and if you love sushi give this gem a try.

I like the salmon teriyaki with CA roll, they give decent amount of CA roll and everything tasted good. Lunch combo was $ 13. The con is that food comes out kinda slow, maybe cuz I was in a hurry it felt very slow.

What a great place! Food was fast and fresh. Owner runs the place and clearly wants his customers to have a great time. Tip: great location for ordering sake! Tip: tempura appetizer is big enough for 2 to share. Sashimi and California roll was very good. Some of the filling for other roles was a little dry.

Stopped in here on a Saturday evening. We were pleasantly surprised! The sushi was delicious! The owner makes all the sushi himself and he is very nice. Likes to chat with the patrons and tell funny stories. The waitress must be his wife, great little restaurant. Great service. Definitely recommended!

I came back twice after first having the 49ers roll. It’s the roll in my original review. This last time was absolutely disgusting. They drowned the roll in that spicy may sauce. I seriously could not even taste the roll. Only the sauce. I even had to ask for a refill of my drink and they gave it back to me half full. I now feel disgusted and have to go back to work nauseous. What a waste of $ 24 bucks(roll, drink, miso soup). The 49er roll was my only reason for coming here, don’t think I’ll be returning.

Weekdays this place can get busy for lunch. Weekend is kinda slower. They do phone orders. If you like cooked sushi get the Lion king Roll but most of all get the Giants Roll !! Service is good prices kinda steep but what do you expect it’s sushi. Parking is at the rear of the building in the side street. But there is parking in the curb on 1st as well.

Best sushi joint in the area, if you know what and how to order and appreciate good food.

One of my favorite Sushi restaurants, when ever I have a lunch meeting or business gathering with different vendors, this is the place to go, I can reserve a table for up to 20 people, and the service is superb, the sushi and sashimi are very fresh, and every time we finish our vendors always compliment how this place beats some of the more fancier sushi joints. I always start out with the Korean Ribs as an appetizer, the flavor is out of this world, the plate is small so make sure to order a few. Also we recommend this place because the service is great and the time it takes to make the food is also fast to get everyone on their way and back to work.

This is right down the street from where I work and we went during lunch-time to just get something to eat. We didn’t care for the quality so we went here. I have to say the service was friendly and quick for a weekday lunch time. Not sure if that says something bad about the place… but the food was decent, we ordered sashimi and a california roll. The lack of a crowd could be because it’s in the middle of some bigger restaurants, and it’s barely visible – event the sign is barely visible.

I am from out of town & came in for an early lunch. The place is clean. The service was great(although they weren’t busy), and the sushi was really decent! I have read a few bad reviews here, but I had a great experience. I had a Rainbow Roll & the 6:4 sashimi nigiri. Portions were perfect! Fish was fresh. I will be back next time I’m in town.

Have eaten here previously and it wasn’t bad. Tonight’s experience was not good. We sat at the bar to eat and we were just about done with everything and we saw a fairly good size cockroach on the back wall behind the bar. We discretely pointed it out and explained it to them and their reaction was underwhelming. Made excuses and stated that they had a prob but they have pest control that comes on monthly but they won’t go away. Disappointing

My apartment complex is nearby so i wanted to give this place a try. It’s actually very decent. The sashimi is fresh and the roll(Spider Fantasy) is delicious. It is usual spider roll topped with pineapple. While the food is great, i do think the prices are way too steep. For example, the 8 pieces of Spider Fantasy roll is almost $ 17, and they are much smaller pieces than Sushi Dan or Cha Cha. Second, the sushi chefs and waitress didn’t check up on us until the very end, and we were sitting at the sushi bar. Do note that the younger sushi chef was definitely more friendly. I give him credits for that. Overall, i would go back here again if im craving for sushi and dont feel like driving. Also, they do not have Happy Hours anymore.

I have never written a review on Unilocal, but felt so cheated and disappointed after eating at Sushi Kan. I feel so sorry for the great server, Liz, for having to work at a restaurant that has such small portions and low quality sashimi at a ridiculous price. I should have known something was wrong when I went in at 7pm and only one customer was at the bar, turned out he was just drinking. If you are looking for a quality Japanese restaurant with great food at a fair price, go to Japantown, only a few miles away. Okayama is a great please, always open, great food and good service. Absolutely no comparison, you won’t be disappointed.

Enjoyed a delightful meal at Sushi Kam this evening. Service was great – sushi even better. Fresh and delightful. I asked the chefs to surprise me. They came up with some amazing stuff. These young sushi masters are good at their craft. Not sure where the bad reviews are coming from here, but I would take them with a grain of Wasabi

I’ve been on the hunt for a decent sushi place since moving to the area and Sushi Kan is a hidden gem. Somewhat pricey, but that’s to be expected in the Bay Area. — Service was quick and friendly, definitely accounts for most of the stars. The chef accidentally made the wrong roll, but then offered to make me the correct one and box up the mistake for me to take home. Waitress was attentive. — The presentation of the food was beautiful and clean. The pieces of fish are decent in size and don’t overstuff the rolls with rice like so many other places do. I appreciate that the miso soup was actually hot instead of lukewarm. I ordered the Washington and Sex & the City rolls. They really hit the spot. I’m tempted to try a bento box next time. Apparently they have a decent happy hour that I missed out on, will have to return for that as well. Check ‘me out and judge for yourself!

I enjoyed Chilean sea bass — totally buttery and perfectly grilled. Their yellowtail belly was really fresh. Good service — super sweet folks, funny and lively ordering at the bar. When we got there parking was a breeze — huge place probably great for birthdays! 6 – 4 sushi combo was much enjoyed by my friend and had generousserving sizes. The Tako Yaki is totally worth trying too Yum!
