I am giving this restaurant 5 stars for three things: 1) the fact that it offers authentic Chinese food; 3) the hand-pulled noodles that are on the menu; and 3) a spicy chicken and vegetable dish that I asked the chef to make. There aren’t many authentic Chinese food restaurants around, so it was nice to find this place. The sign for the restaurant is at the edge of Stevens Creek Blvd., right next to a Taco Bell, but the restaurant itself is not visible from the road because it’s set in a ways and the front of it is perpendicular to the road. I loved the noodles for their texture. The particular broth that I got with them was a bit mild for my taste, but it improved with some chili and soy sauce, and I understand from one of their customers and their waiter that some of their other broths that they offer have more flavor. I plan to go back to try the other broths. The entrée that I ordered was a Szechuan chicken and vegetable dish. I was impressed with it because the sauce that they used had a nice flavor and there was a good variety of veggies in it, including winter squash and cloud ear mushrooms. Like a lot of Chinese restaurants, this one uses vegetable oil to cook their food. I don’t like vegetable oil, so I asked them to steam the chicken and veggies and then add the Szechuan sauce, which they were happy to do. I suggested that they consider switching to a healthier oil, such as peanut oil, but I think I may have been the only one to ever make that request(I’m on a mission to get restaurants to switch to healthier oils). If other people make the same suggestion, maybe they will, as I found the staff there to be very warm and friendly, and very interested in providing good food.

This review is long overdue. I have been to Soong Soong for many years since I moved to Santa Clara. We tried many fancy new restaurant in the area but always go back to Soong Soong after we are tired of others. Their dishes are not fancy but authentic Chinese. Once we found what we like, we are hooked and order the same things over and over again. My son’s favorite is what he called«Chinese burger», we really don’t know what’s the English name for it. I like most of their appetizers and CASSEROLES and noodles. BTW, I believe the restaurant has the same owner for all these years and the same waiters worked there for a long time. That somehow makes me feel good.

I did not really enjoy their Chinese food. It was a little pricey for the quality you get. We ordered take out and it was on time and hot but when eating everything just seemed sticky and flavorless. I don’t think my boyfriend and I will be returning because of the food :(

Our family of 14 came here on the evening of Boxing Day. It is apparently, my in-laws’ local favorite. They are within a five minute drive. We were here around 6:30 and managed to beat the rush, but I think we’d have been ok without a long wait. They have an extensive menu for the northern, Shanghainese palette from casseroles, juaa ben(pinched pancakes), xiao long baos(steamed dumplings), salt and pepper pork chops amongst other popular dishes. Be aware, the online menu(by Googling) is a condensed thin summary geared towards un-initiated takeout patrons. It’s a typical local Chinese restaurant that I imagine is a consistent performer providing decent quality and value. I’m sure we’ll be back again at some point.

The mustard pork soup has changed. It no longer has any mustard greens(just a handful of cilantro instead), and the broth is not as tasty. On the other hand, my mom ordered a «pancake» that the waiter translated as «sweet pancake»(not that sweet; it just isn’t salty) that was so so good, really flaky and delicious. At only $ 3.50 each, you can order two and have plenty to spare. Everyone at the table loved it.

This is a hole in the wall that opens up to a beautiful dining room and offers traditional Chinese food. I ordered the lunch special online through Unilocal and withing 15 minutes I picked up my order. The serving size is large and a great value for lunch. A great overall experience and great food.

Ok been going to here for close to 15 yrs. I don’t know if they changed management or what. Called in an order to go at 4:45 and they said 15 to 20 min. Ok no problem. Get there at 5:05 and then wait an additional 15 min cause they r doing a big to go order. Mind u there is only one table occupied at 5 pm. Then finally get the order just to come home and find it is not what I ordered. Call them to fix and they did. Go back to pick up the right order and the guy says sorry. I told him I am office manager of 6 restaurants and if this happens at one of our places we would comp the order. So he did void it. We will see what shows on my statement. 2 stars cause the food is good but number 1 they should have said they were crazy with that other big order and 2 they should have offered to comp the meal without me having to ask for it

This place is entirely authentic! However, not being from China I can’t speak for the actual dishess served, however for the American palate try the fried pork chops with jalepeno-total California fusion! Also, being Korean American I would wholeheartedly recommend the Jajangmyeon, or Jjajangmyeon, and/or the. Cham-pong. Chef Chen, the owner makes his noodles, and some of his staff are Korean born Chinese and really can whip up a great bowl of noodles! Highly Recommend!

The food here is the best food I’ve had ever. I’m very lucky that it is so close to my house, and the prices are decent, but totally worth it for the food. everything we have ever had there has been perfect!

Ignore the service. They are doing the best they can. You have to bring someone who reads Chinese on the weekends because the paper menu is in Chinese. I have no idea of what was called that we ordered. I’ll do my best. Hamburger, home made steamed bun sandwich with some thing. The soy bean was smooth and not too sweet. The pulled noodle soup had really really long noodles. Great soup base. The other dish was good, but all I remembered, it had a lot of veggies. Water and tea taste like San Jose water! Not so good. Tip: just point to what everyone else ordered. Less hassle of trying to figure out what you want. This place didn’t break my piggy bank. It had a lot of families coming in so definitely, it is very good, especially it serves a lot of seniors.

My dad took me here for lunch several times so it’s kind of become our go-to now when I visit home. It’s a small humble restaurant tucked away on a street going off Stevens Creek. They have a good number of seats but it’s a bit lacking in ambiance, which is the only reason I took off a star. We ordered the honey walnut shrimp, and this place makes the best version of this dish out of all the Chinese restaurants I’ve been to so far! They add pineapple pieces to the dish and the sauce is the right blend of sweet and creamy. The shrimp are always tender too. My dad also ordered this pork intestine dish with pork blood and I was pretty grossed out at first. It comes in this metal dish that’s still sizzling hot when it arrives. I tried it and the intestine actually tasted really good and soft. I still was careful to avoid the pork blood though, that stuff still weirds me out. The food always comes out really, really quickly and is still good quality. Their customer service is great. They usually speak in Mandarin but can also speak english fluently. They’re friendly and attentive. They also bring orange slices with your check.

Nice little Chinese restaurant. Sometimes the food can be a little greasy but overall the food is great. Its kind of hidden in San Jose, but if you find this spot definitely stop by. The orange chicken, pork/chicken/shrimp fried rice is recommended!

Yesterday night, right before closing time, we ordered the«Peking Duck Two Styles» online. Went in to pick it up about 15 minutes later. This was the first time we ever tried Soong Soong and even though I didn’t try it, my wife really liked it. It was very expensive($ 25) but it was enough for two meals(or once for two people, if I had joined in). We will certainly go back to try out more. I will update this review, and maybe update it to a 5-star? Who knows.

Found this place a less welcoming business, especially young lady at the reception, seems to care less for the Customers. Hope this improves in addition to food quality. Update: wrong order too.

I came here with a group for lunch, based on a recommendation from someone who’s been there. Not disappointed. Cracked me up to see two different menus handed out — one in Engrish and one in Chinese for the those who, apparently, had the look! we had an assortment of dishes, mine was the general chicken which was not the traditional dish I had expected. It was not breaded or fried, but tasty and delicious nonetheless. I loved the hot and sour soup and fried noodles. The fried rice was nothing spectacular — seemed like some white rice tossed in a pan with some egg. The place was clean. The service was adequate. The pricing was more than fair for the huge portion we were served. It was about $ 9 each for lunch and I had a nice amount leftover for dinner. It’s a ice alternative to my usual 456 on Pruneridge. :-). Definitely recommend.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon with my family. We usually go to Chef Mings and 456 for Chinese, but wanted to try something new. Soong Soong did not disappoint. Service was great, prices were excellent and the food was pretty dang good, not to mention the servings were HUGE!!! Lets break it down: Slaw and Peanuts 5 stars– they bring these out with the menus. Roasted peanuts and pickled slaw, we were fighting over there(except my peanut allergy brother) Pot Stickers 5 stars– they give you 8 per serving which is a lot! They were pan seared and stuffed with pork and veggies. Top it off with some chili sauce and you are solid. Sweet and Sour Pork 4 stars– I love mixing the sauce with my rice and it was truly the perfect combo. The pork was so good and the pineapple and onions were crunchy and tasty. Sesame Chicken 5 stars– perfectly fried chicken with a lot of flavor, this blew 456’s sesame out of the water! Combination Rice 5 stars– loved the big chunks of egg, add some sauces from your other dishes and you are solid. Chicken Chow Mein 5 stars– the table favorite! The noodles were great, the chicken chunks were HUGE and it was loaded with veggies. Lemon Chicken 3 stars– sauce was sooooo good, I wanted to lick it off the plate but parts of the chicken were mushy bleh. Vegetable Mu Shu 3 stars– for some reason this tasted off, it was too greasy and the pancakes had holes in them. All of that food fed 6 people with a lot of leftovers for $ 60 bucks! I would for sure come back here.

We’ve been to Soong Soong a few times on Friday Funday lunch, as it is one of my co-workers favorite restaurants. Huge variety on the menu — though note that the English Menu and the Chinese Menu have different numbers which can get into confusion. We’ve had a variety of dishes — fish, soups, chicken, duck, beef, and pork. On the most recent trip we got a pork soup, eggplant garlic sauce, general’s chicken, tea-smoked duck, and kyoto pancake. The smoked duck was great, but requires some work due to the bones. The kyoto pancake was great, though a bit tricky with chopsticks. Best item was the eggplant garlic sauce. If looking for solid chinese in the area, I recommend checking this place out.
