Working out in San Jose and of course I needed some Mexican food for dinner. We were in the hood working and drove by this place earlier in the day. Stopped by after work and got our grub on!!! I got the carne asada and shrimp… straight up bomb! Home made tortillas too? What! Best place I’ve been to in a long time. Asada was tender and seasoned perfectly. Shrimp was cooked perfectly too and soooo good! Loud music made it fun after a long day at work and great service on top of it all made it worth every penny. If you’re in San Jose and not afraid of the hood go here! You won’t be disappointed.

I can’t decide if I should give this place 5-stars or 1-star to ward off the possible on-slaught of Unilocalers … but alas I have decided on 5-stars for this place as it’s slowly become my favorite Mexican joint in town. I almost feel like it’s unfair to call this a Mexican joint because it’s so much more. Its truly a place where you will probably find little other than Mexicans frequenting this little joint. Most of the signs are in Spanish and you will be hard pressed to find the usual items on the menu. Burritos and tacos are not their specialty(although their birria taco — goat — is AMAZING), but they are really known for their camaron(shrimp) dishes are absolutely amazing. They do a variety of different foods from seafood ceviches to camaron la diablo. They even have this amazing hot stone pot of seafood with a grilled fish on top and homemade tortillas. The waiters are friendly and extremely helpful. The only note is that recently this place converted into a Cash Only spot, which is odd … since I’ve paid with card plenty of times before. This means you might want to bring your wad of cash for that $ 29.99 seafood spectacular that will feed a family of 5!

First and last time here. Service is horrible! I met my husband and father in law for lunch. I had Birria, its was oaky… tortillas were better than the actual entrée. Anyways… Myfather in law got the Mole Plate. As he started eating he told us he didn’t feel comfortable eating the chicken because it was really hard. He was embarrassed to send it back(he is not a picky person) but we told him if he wasn’t going to eat it he should. So he did, the waitress took it and brought him a plate of birria instead. I could see the waitress and cook/cashier looking at the chicken picking at it with the fork and putting it to the side. So we get the bill. And they are charging us for the MOLE. I asked why we were being billed for that and the cashier/cook lady said, The Chicken was not hard, she thinks he just didn’t like it. UM No lady the chicken is hard as a rock, and its probably old! She brought out the same plate(im thinking that should be in the garbage) and started poking at it with the fork we told her to take a bite, of course she wouldn’t. Good Business practice; apologize(which they never did) offer to bring something else and don’t bill for the piece of crap they just served! It probably cost $ 5 to make that Mole plate… they serve it for $ 12. They weren’t braking the bank here!

The wife and I decided to try this place because there seems to always be a line out the door and a lot of Mexicans seem to eat here, so we figured we would love it. Well, not so much. When it comes to good Mexican food I am pretty easy to please whereas my wife always compares Mexican food to the way her Mother and Tia used to cook. We were seated quicker than I expected, The chips and salsa were average at best, the service was rushed due to the popularity of the place.(At least 10 people waiting outside) I enjoyed my shrimp dish, while my wife was more picky about her food. My only real negative comment would be that the place is small inside and very loud.

IThe ceviche here is impeccable and the Birria was outrageously good. Felt like we were back in Mexico. The service was attentive and friendly even though they were busy.

Their customer service horrible. Had a party of eight and with two table’s available right next to each othet and they couldn’t seat us together. This was the owners idea, she said she couldn’t move the tables because she didn’t want them that way. They were very rude

Went in March 2015 w/my Persian friend who was looking for Birria. This place came highy recommended to me by a childhood friend who lives near this place. Oh My Gosh! Amazing friendly service! Place was clean, sports on tv, Server kept checking on us & took her time explaining dishes & desserts which we ordered flan & jello after we ate our huge meals. We both highly recommend this place.

Best Birria in San Jose for sure! It’s crazy to see how popular it’s gotten but you know it’s good when there’s a 20 – 30 minute wait. The customer service is always great and the señora always takes care of you as if you were family, she has even told me I should lower my drinking. you gotta love it!

Came here on my lunch break for work. I had been craving enchiladas michocanas and couldn’t find anywhere, where they make them like I do. I came here and fell in love with the food. I come here often now the food is amazing, and it makes me feel at home. The servers are really nice and the place is clean. It’s definatley one of my favorites.

I was a little disappointed when Las Flamas closed, but in its place we got Puro Michoacan, which I’ve found to be quite good. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is generally nice except for those times when they blast the jukebox. This is a place where it pays to go a bit off the beaten path. Their burritos and tacos and such aren’t bad, but the milanesa(a type of beef cutlet) and Michoacan style enchiladas are amazing.
