Magat… is where it’s AT! If you’re a fan of Tagalog movies, like me, this is where you need to go to get your fix! I was so disappointed that Seafood City in Milpitas ran out of «No Other Woman» starring the delicious Derek Ramsay. So, I did some research on Unilocal and found Magat. Called the store up this morning and Auntie told me that they rent as well as sell copies of «No Other Woman.» Bring. It. On. Within a half hour, I was the proud owner of not only«No Other Woman,» but also«I Love You, Goodbye» also featuring the scrumptious Derek Ramsay. Magat sells a variety of Filipino food and snacks. Also noticed the store sells drinking water. It has a wide variety of Tagalog and American flicks. Even an adult section in the back. With Netflix, etc. etc. I don’t see many of these types of video rental stores anymore. So, I felt like a kid again! Now I know where to go in the San Jose/Santa Clara area for my Tagalog dramas!

Today Magat Enterprises is having another Lechon Friday! I usually don’t eat pork, but their food is delicious. I recommend a phone call before coming here just to see if they still have some

I’ve been going to this store for years! I love Ate Thelma! She’s such a nice lady. Sometimes I stick around just to chit-chat with her, lol. It’s like a mini-grocery store… basically a bunch of Filipino goodies and gallons of water. You can also find romance pocket books(old & new), mens magazines, gossip magazines, & other filipino related stuffs like shirts & etc. She also rents out new Tagalog movies and some American movies. I usually call in first to ask what are the new released movies before going to their store just to save me the trip if I’m not diggin’ the movie. If you feel like watching classic Tagalog movies that you can’t find on DVDs you should check out her back storage… She has a bunch of VHS movies! It’s unorganized and dusty just because it’s been on shelves for years! I remember going through it and finding some old drama movies, lol. She sells them for $ 1/each but I’m sure if you buy more than 5, she’ll give you a better deal. If I’m not mistaken, I believe she is the only store that rents out Tagalog movies in San Jose. I’m definitely a fan of Magat! ;)

My Ratings: Quantity — 2 Stars Quality — 1 Stars Price — 2 Stars Location — 2 Stars Service — 1 Stars Selection — 2 Stars My Opinion/Story: Not quite similar to the Capitol Ave Magat, this one has more items and a variety of rentals, magazines and CDs. Not much dishes in this location but they do have one thing that I always crave for… spicy squid. The kind they make in the Philippines with all the bad stuffs in it. Yeah, its the only thing I buy here. Place is larger than the Capitol store but still unkept and dark. They also don’t have the latest men’s magazine my hubby likes to get so we end up driving further away just to find his magazines.

Now the only Filipino store in SJ that rents filipino movie and they’re all recent. And its already grocery/water store. They also have Lechon(not baked) usually every weekend. Yummmy… crispy skin!!! the best lechon because it’s made the tradional way. Don’t wait till sunday to go there and buy. it’s usually gone by saturday nite. — $ 12.95/lb — $ 240 maybe about 25−30lbs?! not sure
