Best super burritos my boyfriend and I have ever had. We are on a mission to find a burrito that can compete with this place’s and have yet to find one. We love how they crisp up the outside of the tortilla! We drive 30 minutes to come eat here and we probably go at least three times a week.

We ordered two breakfast plates, two pupusas, 1 quesadilla and 1 large orchata and two cokes. After a lengthy conversation about how to say over easy eggs in Spanish and going back to the kitchen to relay the request both plates came out scrambled, ham chopped up and a hair in one plate. No plantain came with the plate and no crema came with the beans. The pupusas were awesome. At the end of my meal I had to ask for my horchata so I had no drink for my meal. We did not eat the ham cuz it was just off and very salty. When we walked in there was only two people dining. The server had to ask every time if that was the right item cuz she clearly had it all in one ear and out the other. She took our order and didn’t even realize there were scrambled eggs when we just talked about over easy eggs. We arrived at 2:30 and left at 3:30 having just received our food.

30 min for 2 pupusas while my child is having a meltdown. I ordered ahead of time and waited an additional 20 min waiting inside.

I really like this place. I come here maybe twice a week or so to grab dinner after work, and the prices are decent. I normally get the super quesadilla with carnitas(pork), and the portions are fair. The only reason I won’t give it a five-star rating is because their salsa is not good. Also, I tried to redeem the Unilocal offer of a free taco or pupusa tonight as my total was over $ 10, but when I showed the offer on my phone the cashier just smiled, shook her head, and deducted about $ 2 off my total. Not sure why she did that as I believe a taco or pupusa is more than $ 2. Oh, well. I’ll still keep coming there.

This place has the best pupusas en San Jose! They are made to order fresh so they are definitely worth the wait. Our family favorites are the revueltas! They are so good! We can’t wait to go back there.

I’ve eaten at this restaurant quite a few times and this review is for my most recent visit 07÷20÷15. Papusas and el salvadorean tamales are a must have here. The food may take a while to come out, but they make it fresh so it’s worth it in the end. Owner is extremely friendly and greets you with a smile. Waitress is extremely rude and lazy. I asked for extra hot sauce/salsa and she slams my half eaten/almost gone salsa in my face and says you have it right here. I eat it all and ask for some more salsa and she stays behind the counter, slams the salsa on the counter and makes me get up and get it myself. I guess she didn’t want a tip…

Awesome pupusas! I had the cheese & squash and the pork/bean/cheese with carne asada on the side. The food was fresh, the restaurant is clean, and the staff are very nice. A great casual lunch place.

Good pupusas. They’re not greasy at all. Friendly service. They take phone orders. Reasonably priced. You get a free pupusa on weekdays when you check-in and spend $ 10.

The food here was so delicious and fresh. I only wish that they would have been able to give me a free papusa/taco as it states on Unilocal.I must’ve came in on a day that their machine was down to accept the free papusa or taco. In this situation I think the cashier could have given me a free papusa or taco to accommodate for the system being down… maybe next time.

Not a bad spot for Salvadorian food. Reasonably priced, good selection, good tamales, good burrito and friendly service. I’ll probably come back.

I wanna say this place bordered a little bit more on 3.5 stars, but I’m not familiar with El Salvadorian food so I figured I’d round up to compensate for that. The service was just okay — our orders got a little mixed up(but this might be just because the cashier was not a native English speaker). The food was really good! I nibbled a bit on my friend’s huge torta and it was yummy. For myself, I ordered 2 papusas(it was my first time trying papusas), and I really satisfied with the portions and the flavor. The outside was nice and crunchy while the meat inside was tender and soft.

The Bomb! Loved all the papusas! I got lunch for my coworker bday. I hosted about 18 peeps. They love them all. My mom and grandmother come here all the time. They are both from San Salvador so they know good papusas. Yummy goodness! I really love the squash and cheese one too!

Complete hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. Went out here for a quick lunch and was not disappointed! The burritos are fresh and filling and cost less than $ 5, cant beat that at all. I ordered a lengua burrito and it did not disappoint, the lengua was tender and the accompanying fix ins were cooked to perfection. Only major thing is that they only accept cash and who still carries cash nowadays? Also I highly advise you to bring a friend since the area is kind of sketchy and I’ve definitely seen a lot of women getting cat called. Cheap and delicious food in sketchy area that only accepts cash.

Bad service. I got to the restaurant at 9:45 wanting a couple orders of the tamales. I saw from the outside that the«Open» sign was still on and I noticed people were still inside. So got out of my car because they were clearly still opened, I was able to walk in, grab a menu, waited but no one was there to help me. When then lady came from the back, I just told her that I’d like some tamales and she said«sorry, it’s 10 o clock and we’re closed.» I looked at my watch, it said it was 9:55. That’s when I just thought to walk away. This really upset me! First off, if she came out sooner, I wouldn’t have wasted 10 minutes waiting for her to come out from the back. Second, if she was planning a to close early, she should have turned off the neon«open» sign that she has hanging outside Updated review: My boyfriend and I decided to to grab food here. We had ordered 2 super burritos but because the lady did not speak English, she gave us 2 tacos. We mentioned to her that we ordered the burrito but she said we didn’t and we only ordered 2 tacos. I just thought it was weird that she really thought one taco for each person would fill us up. We didn’t want to deal with the hassle, so we decided to leave and go to the taco truck down the street by grocery outlet instead. Food overall was 2 stars. They have us hard tortilla

My ongoing quest for the perfect Pupusa out of mi mum’s kitchen brought me to La Costa Del Sol(The Sun Coast). There has been lots of hype on Unilocal for this place including continuous Groupon deals. I was pretty excited to try out a new Salvadoran restaurant as there aren’t many around. The location is is a newer shopping center along sketchy Monterey highway. The menu also includes Mexican fare for those seeking comfortable choices. In typical Salvadoran style, they are proud of their heritage with lots of Salvadoran memorabilia inside the restaurant. The space is small but has plenty of tables and booths and it doesn’t feel cramped. On our visit it appears the husband and wife were running the show. They were pleasant but as soon as more folks started to show up, they were overwhelmed and the service reflected that. Pupusa de Chicharron con Queso(pork & cheese) $ 2.25 — Pupusa’s are the star of Salvadoran cuisine. My experience was disappointing. I didn’t feel like there was much flavor and I would’ve preferred my Pupusa grilled a bit longer. A major fail was that when he brought out my Pupusas, they didn’t give me the obligatory salsa de tomate and curtido(lightly fermented cabbage slaw with red chilies and vinegar). I thought maybe he was bringing it but he never did. I finally went up to the counter, waited in line to ask for them and he asks me «you ordered pupusas?». This is the same guy that I ordered them from and he also brought them out to me, WTF!!? Pan Relleno de Pollo $ 5.95 — This was absolutely delicious. The Pipil spices in the sauce on the chicken are addicting. The cherry on top is that they also give you a side of the sauce. This is a french roll stuffed with marinated oven roasted chicken, tomato, watercress, cucumbers, onion, lettuce and mayonnaise. This is a messy sandwich but it’s worth it. Watch out for the bones though, they use everything. Tamal Salvadoreño de Pollo $ 2.00 — Unlike their Mexican counterparts, Salvadoran tamales are wrapped in plantain leaves, the masa is moist and flavorful and the filling also includes vegetables. Don’t be surprised to find bones in your tamal as this is typical in El Salvador. I am a huge fan of these and I think I prefer them over the Mexican version. We ended up ordering a dozen for a potluck and they were a hit! Sopa de Siete Mares(seven seas soup) $ 12.95 — This was wifey’s choice. She loved it but thought the green beans were odd. The Mexican version doesn’t include it so I’ll assume the Salvadoran version does. Cola Champagne $ 2.00 — A popular cream soda in El Salvador. No champagne in it. Tastes like bubble gum. Works for some not for others. I always get it because it reminds me of my visit to El Salvador. There were a few other things that I noticed but didn’t get to try. They have Horchata, which has a different flavor and texture than the Mexican/Spanish versions. Their counter had Semita, a coffee cake with guava or pineapple jam and Quesadilla Salvadoreña, think pound cake + cheesecake topped w/sesame seeds. I would return in a heartbeat for their Pan de Pollo and the Tamales. Sadly, not for the Pupasas. My go to Pupusa spot in the 408 remains Sabor Salvadoreño. Buen Provecho! *3.5 stars ** The Check-in offer for a free taco/pupusa is only valid Mon-Thurs w/order of $ 10 and up.

I decided to try this place out after being recommended to this place by a fellow Unilocaler. Since it was close to home, why not? Here’s why not: 1) After checking into this place, my Unilocal app said«Get a free Pupusa or Taco». I presented it to the guy(Hernando) and he tells me it’s not for this place. Come again? I must be hella stupid because my check in was for La Costa Del Sol and that’s the same sign that’s outside. 2) The carnitas burrito I ordered was loaded with rice and beans and only a smidgen of this mystery meat that legends say is supposed to be carnitas. 3) I decided to give this place another shot after Slumdog texted me a picture of their crispy tacos for $ 2. We come in and place our order for 4 tacos and 2 Salvadorian Tamales and waited as they made them. And waited. Waited 25 minutes for 4 crispy tacos. Does it really take that long to make tacos? 4) Hernando starts ringing up my order and says $ 15.16. Lemme see…$ 2×4 tacos = $ 8. Add 2 $ 2 tamales = $ 12. How did it come out to $ 15? Hernando then tells me crispy tacos are 50 cents more. WHAT? Where does it say that? He couldn’t answer as he anxiously tries to flip thru the menu trying to find something that didn’t exist. Dude – my friend just came here today and got the SAMETHING and he got charged $ 2 why are you trying to jack me? 5) The tacos were stuffed with lettuce and lacked meat. Did Subway contract with you guys? Where’s the beef? 6) The Salvadorian tamales had the consistency of drywall paste. They stick a boiled chicken wing in every one with the entire bone in it. Chicken had 0 flavor also. Don’t waste your time here. Your shady business tactics, your stupid Unilocal check-in deal that you won’t acknowledge, and your meatless tacos are lame! I’m never coming back.

I have been to this restaurant before and liked their food. This time I came with a special Groupon deal and it seemed like the food was skimped on. I always feel like someone is going to spit in my food for bringing in a coupon! The Food: The food can be hit or miss. They have pupusas, tacos, burritos and much more. My Groupon coupon included one appetizer, two entrees, and two drinks. We ordered the chicken taquitos which I ordered the two pupusa dinner plate which included a thin cut steak covered in onions, red and green bell peppers. The pupusas were great because for the cheese but did not have much chicken in them. The hot date ordered two enchiladas suizas which came with a side of rice and beans. According to her, they were just okay. The Staff: The servers were nice. Didn’t have too much interaction with them except when she came by to pick up the empty plates. She did a good job, high five! The Restaurant: This place is kind of small and is made up of mostly booths and two tables. It fills up a fast and they could fit more people if they added some of those half booths half tables up in there. Just a thought Am I going back? If it’s convenient I will but the food doesn’t seem as good as it use to be.
