Not sure what the hype is about, I thought everything was just mediocre. Sashimi was fresh, but very small portions for what you pay, tempura was too heavy in batter, the miso soup was overly salty AND they charge 50cents for a small side of unagi sauce, WHODOESTHAT? Service was good, they were not very busy. With all the other better sushi restaurant options around here, I recommend you skip this place.

Been here a couple of times. Always very good. Can sometimes get a bit crowded. Had some awesome yellowtail collar the other day(one of the specials). Definitely worth looking into if you are in J-town.

Wow. is awesome! We were going to a ramen place next door, but my wife said let’s try this place. it was the best decision we did that day. The place is cozy and good atmosphere. The wait staff are awesome. Then the food came, its very authentic Japanese food. Its like we were in Japan. The not that bad either. I recommend this place if you like good authentic japanese food. 4STARS. We back!

My girlfriend dropped her keys while eating here. The waiter ended up tracking us down while we were across the street to return our keys. Food was also great.

The sushi was good, but there are so many other places in the area that offer the same or better quality with a better ambiance. The place is pretty small, and we sat near a table by the door, and every time someone went in or out, a ton of cold air came in. The sushi was fine, but my soup and chicken dish got pretty cold from all of the people coming through the doors.

Came here with my coworkers for lunch on Friday. The restaurant is really cute and small and the service is great. We came in around 12:30pm and got seated right away. The waitress immediately gave us menus and asked us what we wanted to drink. We ordered our food and it came out in about 15 minutes. I ordered the Katsu curry and it was really good. It was spicy, but not too spicy. Just right. We also ordered shared the Beef Teriyaki Bento with Tempura and shared a Sashimi platter. The Sashimi was fresh and everything came out around the same time. I love their Beef Teriyaki, the meat is soft and chewy unlike other restaurants that I’ve tried where the meat is hard. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to come to anyone whose looking for a good Japanese restaurant. Five stars for excellent service and food. I left the restaurant with a happy smile and happy stomach. :)

Cute sushi restaurant! I ordered just about the most ordinary meal there and was delighted and surprised – the miso soup was so flavorful and I think it was red rather than the usual white miso! The rice ball was so delicious! Very intimate and with an extensive menu – three separate ones in all! Just a warning – they take cards but require you to tell them the tip amount before they run it. They’re pretty good about giving you written notice of that, but keep it in mind. Very much recommended!

I actully really like my dinner and my bf likes it as well. I would give a 4 stars. But I have to give 3 stars now because the unagi roll is really no good. The rice and the seaweed us really weird… I got the ishikari nabe, which i really like. The soup became super salty when it became cold. So! Drink it where it is hot. I really like their tempura hehe. I really want tempura for a loooooong time. Overall really nice dining experience but I made a mistake by ordering the unagi roll(oh i think its call rock n roll lol)

Definitely my my favorite Japanese restaurant in the area because it feels very authentic. All of the waitresses speak Japanese and make me feel like I’m in Japan again. My go to dish is the oyakodon. Unlike other restaurants, they don’t douse the dish with the sweet sauce. It’s lightly flavored which is how I like it and the portions are generous. Only downside is the sushi portions are relatively small. But since I don’t order sushi often, it doesn’t bother me. Highly recommend for lunch, but good for dinner as well.

Stopped by for lunch and ordered the miso ramen. I liked it. It wasn’t as salty as I’ve had at other popular ramen places. Noodles were fresh and tasty. Parking was on the street but there wasn’t any problems finding a spot. No waiting to get seated either and the staff was efficient.

I had dinner here and left unfortunately completed disappointed and HUNGRY. Although I was impressed with the service, our server was friendly, I couldn’t help but notice our super tiny portions. I’ve been to many sushi establishments and this takes the cake. Our server did briefly mention their sashimi cuts are small(so I’m assuming this has been an ongoing complaint from customers?) so why not just give a little more to please your customers? And from the looks of some reviews, I am not alone on this. Moving on… she was completely correct, It was the saddest 15 piece sashimi plate I’ve ever received. Even my friend who is not much of a complainer, thought the exact same thing. Our next roll finally came out(spider roll) and it was only measly FOUR pieces. Yes. four freakin’ pieces.(check out my picture). How on earth am I paying $ 10 dollars for that?! The roll itself was also not good, the soft shell crab tasted extremely chewy. The handrolls we’re not much better, small, completely filled 75% rice and a tiny piece of fish. We both agreed we we’re still hungry but it wasn’t worth it to order more because everything was so mediocre at best. It lacked both quality and quantity. I’d advice you to walk over to Okayama Japanese Restaurant down the street.(Or even better, check out Sendai Sushi or Cha cha sushi– they always do it right!) With the same order and price you pay here, you get so much more for your buck!

Very homey yet quite solid. Humble and authentic fare. The inside looks rather trailer home-ish, fake-ish wood paneling, and very little Japanese aesthetics. But the food tells another story. Sashimi Plate($ 18) was decent. Fish quality here is pretty good, even though it is not really advertised behind a sushi counter. And you can’t really see what sushi dude is doing, but have faith. Special Kaisen($ 26) is like a notched-up chirashi. Good assortment of the chef’s choices atops a bowl of sushi rice. Not the tightest presentation but still tasted solid, especially with their junmai dai sake. Tamago, toro and salmon roe were nice players in the field. Another night, we discovered their small plates menu and went with a more izakaya outing. Seaweed Salad — Just ok and nothing out of the norm. But still good. Grilled Pork Belly — Very juicy and tasty. Just a bit heavy handed on the salt. Cucumber and Negihama Rolls(Yellowfin/green onions) — Spot on simplicity. Fried Squid Legs — Perfectly fried. Nice and tender when hot, but gets chewier as it cools. Nigiri Uni(Sea Urchin) — Respectable quality Nigiri Saba(Mackerel) — Chef is to be commended on the cure. Very nice. Grilled Short Ribs — Nicely grilled and seasoned. Simple beef flavor even though completely well done. Wished it were rarer. Nigiri Sea Bream — Awesome seasonal offering. Addition of shisho leaf makes it pop big time. The izakaya outing is more of my speed. Plus it was less expensive than getting the 2 dishes we received the previous outing. More tasting for less buck. Now that is a bang!

When I first walked in, a small place but has a welcoming feel to it, a bit cold lighting but I guess the décor isn’t that important when I tried their food! Sooooooo good, wasn’t what I expected and it blew my mind putting the two together(cold bland décor and awesome food) haha. I got the udon miso soup, comes in a medium sized iron looking bowl, then sides were a small salad, small bowl of rice and chillin pepper which I sprinkled on everything. I would sure come back to this place. The wait for your food isn’t too long either.

Wonderful lunch spot to check off fairly close to SJSU. We got seated immediately, but the place was pretty packed. There are many lunch specials offered, but I chose to get the curry katsu. Rice and curry portion was big. I wish there was more katsu. Service was really fast, which is so good for lunch time! We also ordered gyoza for an appetizer. The gyoza was probably one of the best I’ve ever had. Definitely would come back again during my lunch break at school.

First time here! Arrived just as they opened. It’s a relatively small place. It probably seats 30 max, just a guess. I managed to inhale my food and left 30 minutes after I arrived. The place was filling up quickly. It was a clean place! Good start. I ordered the Beef Teriyaki Combo. It included of course Beef Teriyaki, steamed rice, miso soup, a side of potato salad and about 6 pieces of California Roll sushi. The Beef Teriyaki was very good! Excellent flavor! Actually I enjoyed everything I had in the meal. I really liked the miso soup! The service was very good! I sat the counter, so I was able to flag down the waitress without any problems. Will definitely return!

Had dinner here on Wednesday night around 7pm. This restaurant wasn’t as crowded as the other ones in japan town. But I’ve been here before and it tasted quite authentic. As usual, they have their today’s special on the board. I highly recommend you order off from that than from the menu. The menu is too general, bento box… choose between tempura… california roll… chicken teriyaki… Those are too generic, which you can try in every«japanese» restaurant. I had a oyster nabe with sashimi. The sashimi was very fresh. How to tell if they are fresh? Not watery, not soggy, the color are sharp, not dull. This restaurant might be a little more expensive than the other ones in japan town, but I think its worth it. It tasted more authentic.

Apparently we didn’t receive the memo that you’re supposed to order the hot entrees. Every single table in this restaurant had that, except for us. Agedashi tofu — Cute little round cubes of soft, gently fried tofu delight. This was good. Sashimi combo — $ 20 for these anorexic slices of sushi. My heart dropped when I saw these bite-sized pieces presented together. The slices were thin enough that they drooped. At least they were fresh. I went to King Eggroll afterwards to fill the rest of my stomach up. The service is great and polite. However, it’s a big pet peeve when waiters set food on our table and we had to ask for utensils when we realized they weren’t going to bring any to us.

Loved this place. First time there, ordered a bento box. Very interactive and not that expensive. The spare ribs were great. The fish and vegetable tempura were also great! I would go here again. My coworkers said there didn’t look like too much food in the bento box, but somehow having such a large variety made me full and that comes from someone who eats out the buffet restaurants. I feel like the bento box at other places would be $ 17-$ 18, but it was only like $ 11-$ 12. So first came the hot tea, instead of water, which was very cute and tasty. I don’t know why I said cute, but it came in a nice little cup, which my girlfriend would probably appreciate. Then came the salad in a tiny bowl. The dressing was very tasteful. There was also a miso soup. I mixed that with the rice and the red pepper stuff cause it was too spicy. The soy sauce thing was supposed to be for the tempura, which consisted of white fish, broccoli and carrot. They have this white garnish you’re supposed to mix in it too. They had 3 California rolls with wasabi and radish. Spare ribs was surprisingly yummy. It was tender and filling. The service was pretty quick and the salad came out first, but I waited until everything came out so I could take a picture with everything.

Came by for lunch the other day. Kaita is a Japanese-owned restaurant that provides reliable and quality meals. Ordered the Chicken Teriyaki & Tempura Combination for $ 7.95. The meal starts off with a salad and a miso soup that is too salty… The tempura is usually decent. The chicken teriyaki don is over a big bowl of rice. The chicken teriyaki is usually flavorful and made with dark meat. They do accept credit cards and service is always friendly and welcoming. ~$ 9.6 for lunch after tax and tip.
