Joy’s Therapeutic Massage

In search of a «deep tissue» massage to loosen up the knots in my back, I found Joy’s post on Craigslist offering «deep tissue» massage services.
So I visited Joy’s Therapeutic Massage on 3÷26÷2012. I advised her that I would like her to focus on my upper back /​shoulder area and my feet to relieve tension.
She asked that since this was my first time here, if I could pay her first ($ 50.00), which I did. I found that odd, but not unreasonable.
Within the first few minutes it was clear to me that I made a bad decision. I would characterize her treatment as more of a gentle rubbing, and certainly not a massage much less a deep tissue massage.
It was apparent that she did not have a concept of muscle groupings. I reminded her that I need special attention to my upper back and shoulder areas (muscles are totally knotted up) — she glossed over them like a butter brush over a croissant.
She did use some hot item on my back (could have been a stone — I didn’t see it so I don’t know for sure) as part of the massage. While that in itself felt good — I really needed the deep tissue massage to loosen up my muscles — so it was a waste on my opinion.
The lower pillow on the massage table (where you rest your arms under your chin/​face area) had a dried pool of drool from a previous customer — gross…
I hold myself partially accountable as I went the less-​expensive route and selected her to perform this service. I’ve literally had better massages at quickie airport massage bars.
I now see why she asked for the money upfront. She must have had previous customers simply walk out on her. Moving forward, I will seek out a professional massage therapist that is a CMT.
Bottom line here: you get what you pay for…

I called Joy for a last minute massage for my boyfriend and I on his birthday last July. She took us late night after we were both off work which was awesome, 1hr for him and 30 mins for me. It was perfect, soothing and relaxing. My man loves a ton of pressure to work out the kinks from work, and I like more of a soft touch to relax… we both left VERY happy. Thanks Joy!

I had a really great experience at Joy’s Therapeutic Massage, I called on a Sunday afternoon and she was able to get me in within a couple of hours. The location was easy to find with plenty of parking. I asked for a one hour full body Swedish style massage with heavy pressure. I was surprised that Joy was able to apply the exact pressure I was looking for. The facility was clean and massage room warm with relaxing music.
The only thing I was disappointed with was she did not massage my arms, hands and front of my upper legs, I was face down for the entire time. Don’t get me wrong, i thoroughly enjoyed the massage but felt something was missing, maybe she just ran out of time since she concentrated on my back for a long time. I would have given 5 Stars if it wasn’t for that.
Overall, I left feeling refreshed and relaxed, she definitely got the knots out.
I will absolutely come back and would highly recommend her.
