The Highway 237 Bikeway(H2B) is a nice, fully-paved and fairly flat ±3.5 mile trail that connects Milpitas to the North San Jose/Alviso area. This trail is actually a pretty viable option for those that live in Milpitas, work in NSJ, and want to avoid the daily nightmare that is the Hwy 237 Morning Commute. There are multiple access points to the H2B(and I’ll list those later), but here’s a quick summary of the trail as a whole: The H2B officially«begins» ±¼-mile west of Great America Pkwy, along the north edge of 237 where it runs into the SF-Bay Trail – that’ll take you to Alviso, Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge, and(one day soon!) even to SF itself. It then continues east(still following the North edge of 237) all the way until you hit Zanker Rd; from there the trial actually splits off in to a North half and a South* half. The North half will take you to Ranch Dr where you can access the McCarthy Ranch Shopping Center, or it also meets up with the Coyote Creek Trail which gives you the option to continue riding North. The South portion ends at McCarthy Blvd, and also give you the option to ride South on the Coyote Creek Trail. Access Points: –Sf-Bay Trail –Coyote Creek Trail –McCarthy Blvd –Ranch Dr –Gold St/Lafayette St –Great America Pkwy –Zanker Rd Views: Not much in the way when it comes to views, as half of it usually the bumper-to-bumper 237 traffic, and the other half are mostly empty fields. Once you hit the main trails(SF-Bay and Coyote) you’ll get some better views, but in the meantime you’ll just have to suck it up and remember this is meant as a connector trail. The H2B is a nice addition to the area and serves it’s purpose well. Just remember when riding: be safe – and don’t be an asshole. *The South half was recently closed due to some PG&E work in the area, but last I checked that work is wrapping up and they’re fixing to open it real soon.
