I know this is after the fact that they closed(at least I got her information before she left so she could cater for me) but this was definitely my favorite food place. Chicken, Pear and Brie Sandwich: Orgasm! Sweet and Spicy Wings: WOOTWOOT! Service: Ah… they made me feel like I was practically family No frills kinda place with good grub. SADFACEITSGONE…

I’m always looking for new places to eat lunch, so my co-worker and I scaned Unilocal today in hopes to find something different than the usual. After reading all the reviews for Hally K One Café, our mouths were watering so off we went. Parking is very limited but I found a spot in back. This is a very cute victorian house converted into a small resturant. It was VERY noisey and cold. There was a large group looking over the menu so I was glad to have ordered before they did. I ordered the Chicken w/Pear & Brie sandwich and the Sweet Potato fries. Amanda orded the Southwestern Chicken Sandwich with no tomatoes or onions and sub. the side salad for criss cut fries. Our order took FOREVER to come out. This was a to-go order of sandwiches. How long does that take? Finally our orders are ready. The very nice lady explained that her server called out sick so they were short handed. We get rung up and HOLLYCOW!!! For a sandwich and fries it was $ 15.00! I’m sorry this better be an awesome sandwich. We get back to work, sat down and are ready for an amazing lunch. Amanda’s Southwest Chicken is missing the«chicken» and instead of bacon, there was a slab of ham, she got tomatoes and onions which she asked to leave out and she didn’t get her fries. My sandwich was cold, the garlic aoli on the sandwich was totally over powering. However the sweet potatoe fries were YUMO. Would I go back? Were they having a bad day? I don’t know. But at that price, I don’t think I’ll be back. Bummer.

HKOC changed their menu again. There’s more breakfast items. The shrimp wrap was taken off the menu. We were bummed about it. We asked why the wrap was no longer there and were told they can make it for us today. It made my day! Thanks HKOC. I also noticed they had rice bowls. The shredded pork rice bowl actually came on a platter. The pork was a bit disappointing as it did not have much flavor and was a bit on the mushy side. =(

Been here a half dozen times since it’s walking distance from work. The place is cute and staff is friendly BUT service has always been erratic –hot/cold, mostly cold the last few times and often they are out of(too many) things on the menu. It was so bad one time my co-worker finally said«OK, what DO you have left for lunch?» It’s either poor food menu planning or business is stellar. The sweet potato fries are excellent but not the one thing that would make me want to return. The wraps, sandwiches and salads are excellent and portion size(I think) is just right BUT prices are a little high for what you get, considering how close to the University and«starving students» and all that they are. Caution: DONOT eat inside the house on a hot day, you’ll suffocate! Will I go back? With so many other choices downtown, Hally K Ono would be at the bottom of my list.

Yesterday… I was excited! I was anxious!!! Oh! not just for being here, silly! Because yesterday, I’ve met 2 of my Unilocaler friends!!! It felt like a blind date(I had several of those gazillion years ago)…I am not just here to Unilocal about my first encounter with Maj H. and Kris H., but I am also here to write about this place… Hally K Ono Café!
