Very nice clean secluded park with nice trails to walk or run. Good place to relax. I come here from time to time when I’m in the area

This is one of the more interesting City parks I’ve encountered. I’m not sure how to classify it because it’s not a neighborhood park or a regional park; it’s just a straight up old school park exactly how Mother Nature intended: dirt and trees. Fortunately, I have reconnoitered it just for you, fellow Unilocalers, and here is my full report: 1) Parking lot and restroom– There are multiple entry points located around the park that can be accessed from the adjoining streets; I prefer to enter from the Thorntree Dr entrance where the parking lot and restroom are located. 2) Trails– This park is all about one thing: trails, trails and more trails! It has flat trails, hilly trails and steps. I didn’t encounter any that I found particularly difficult, but I’m an experienced hiker. I took my(almost) 3-year-old son there and he was able to keep up with me for the most part; I only had to carry him down one set of stairs that were just a bit too steep. 3) Views– The views from the top of the highest hills are nice and there are some well-placed benches in case you want to sit and soak it all in. You get some good views of Mt. Um, Almaden Valley and I could even see the Campbell Water Tower from there. Not the best views I’ve ever encountered but worth the trip. 4) Jefferey Fontana Park — The south end of GOGP is bordered by Jeffrey Fontana Park, which has some nice features for people that might be using the trails; there’s a dog park and a children’s playground conveniently placed. As I stated earlier, if you like a no-frills park, that’s all about the trails this place is for you. There are trails to suit everyone from the inexperienced to the experienced. I would highly recommend bringing your children here. It’s a great place to introduce them to hiking. The only thing keeping it from being a 5-star is it’s a pretty small park, and I was able to see most of it in less than 1.5-hours. I’m sure I could’ve done it a lot faster if I was by myself, but a Toddler will slow you down like that. If you want a great hike in the South San Jose area, I’d recommend Almaden Quicksilver, Santa Teresa County, or Calero County; if you’re looking for something quick and easy, this is the spot for you.

Such a great spot… we like to walk the flat trail over to the playground in the adjoining park. Great bird watching.

This is one of my favorite parks in San Jose. It has something for everyone: — flat trails for the less athletic — big hills for climbers — bike trails for the bicyclists — trails and bags for dog wakers There are bathrooms and a drinking fountain. I even saw a bowl by the drinking fountain that I assumed was for dogs. There are a lot of big oak trees here for some nice shade. There are some picnic tables. The hills have great views of the area. I love going here and sitting on rocks on the big hills looking at the beautiful scenery.
