Gilbert’s Moving and Labor

I guess I could give them 4 stars for agreeing to move some furniture around my house on the same day as I called (Sunday), or for very reasonable prices ($ 75/​hour for three people), but these guys did not come across as professionals. They did not know how to wrap blankets around the furniture and did not have the tools to take the legs off the couch. It took them a while to figure out how to turn couches to make sure they make it through the hall ways and one of them ended up dropping (and thankfully catching) one of end of the couch while damaging the railing. I will not use them again.

I recently moved here from Austin, TX. I had all my stuffs in a U-​PACK relocube, which is about half the size of a U-​Haul truck. Since I’m here by myself, I need some help unloading my stuffs into my new apartment.
Initially I wanted to move in on a Saturday. So around Tuesday or Wednesday that week I went to Unilocal for a good movers. I first contacted Anytime Movers, the marines/​soldiers via email, and they were fast with their reply and quoted me $ 200 for 3 hours max for a Saturday move, which I thought was pretty good. However, I found out that U-​PACK couldn’t deliver my cube on the weekend. The soonest I could get is in on Monday.
Unfortunately the movers were fully booked for the rest of the week! Then I called Go-​Pro Movers, also based on the good reviews here. However they’re also very busy and might be able to squeeze in a small move (1BR). I told them mine shouldn’t take too long since I didn’t have that much stuffs. Basically I only had 3 big pieces of furniture (sofa, loveseat, and mattresses) and the rest are about 20 medium boxes and small items. I didn’t think it would take longer than 2 hours. They quoted me $ 100/​hr. Then I called a 3^rd mover, which I forget who know, but they’re also booked!
I started to freak out now, didn’t realize it’s such a busy moving season. Then I remember I was referred to Gilbert’s by my apartment’s leasing agent (The Pines @ north park). I was given Gilbert’s name and a number. So I decided to call him, and yes he’s available! They asked if I need 2 people, yes. He gave me a rate of $ 50/​hr. So I was thinking it’s $ 100/​hr for 2 movers, which is the same rate as Go Pro. I decided to book them since they’re recommended by the apartment and they’re already familiar with the apartment site.
Long story short, they finished unloading all my stuffs in 1.5 hours, including helping me set up my king bed frame! In the end Gilbert’s said, «It’s 1.5 hours, so $ 75 please.» I was gladly surprised. I was prepared to give them $ 150, so I gave them a generous tip of $ 45. This is the only time I ever tip this much everrrr.
They also did delivery for the same rate. So next time I’m buying furniture I’ll definitely use their service again.
