I started coming to this place years ago when i used to work down town and it was an exceptional sandwich shop back then so I decided to take a day to reminisce. The menu has been updated some with a few more options but other than that nothing much has changed and that’s a good thing. I ordered the spicy salami which came on their warm sourdough bread. The bread alone will keep you coming back. Nothing better than a warm sourdough bread and whatever you add to it after that just gets better. There’s nothing crazy trendy going on, just a good solid sandwich shop that roasts their own turkey and chicken which is what I always ordered before and will again on my next visit. I’m really glad to still see this place around and that they have kept what made them good, good. They are located in the middle of an office complex although suite and tie are not required you do see a lot of them there.

Hands down my favorite sandwich shop. The warm sourdough bread is to die for. Crunchy outside, soft warm goodness on the inside! Love the #14 — ½ Turkey, ½ Pastrami. Add Pepper Jack cheese. Yummy!!!

After a year of trying new places, I’ve come to the conclusion that the Bay area just doesn’t know how to make sandwiches the way I like them. The bread here was fine, the meat was fine, the toppings were fine… but none of it was interesting or special. If you want a pastrami sandwich, try The Refuge in Menlo Park. Otherwise, this place is fine, but not significantly better than Ike’s or any other sandwich place in the bay area.

Decided to check it out after all the hype and good reviews annnnd… It was A-OK. Mediocre sandwich for $ 9 consisting mostly of their delicious warm baked sourdough loaf, a couple slices of processed deli meat, a slice of swiss cheese, and a couple tomatoes, onions, and lettuce shavings. Loved the pickles & bread but nothing special. There are so many flavorful sandwich spots around the Bay Area and this place just seemed like your average deli sammy.

This is the best deli sandwich you will ever find, hands down. I am not even a fan of sourdough bread normally but the bread here will make you a convert. It’s soft and crunchy and warm and is a delight every bite. The condiments are fresh and only adds to the flavor instead of distracting or overwhelming it. The whole pickle is also a nice touch. The service is also outstanding. No matter how busy the line is, your sandwich will be ready in 1 – 2 minutes, no joke. You barely have time to sit down. My absolute favorite traditional deli sandwich, without a doubt. One of the local San Jose gems you owe yourself to check out if you are a foodie.

Very good sandwich. Meat(turkey and pastrami in this instance) tasted fresh and top-notch. Cashiers are fast, efficient and courteous. If you want a good sandwich made with fresh, made in-house sourdough bread and not wait a 10-people-long line(as at their sister location in Berryessa area) I strongly encourage you try this location instead. Presumably with free parking validated elsewhere. Definitely worth a return visit.

Freshly baked sourdough bread. How can you say no to that? There’s something about their bread that makes me come back wanting more. There’s usually a long line during lunch time but it goes by really fast. Seriously, the quickest service ever without compromising quality. Note: this place is cash only and sandwiches are usually around $ 9. There’s an ATM machine if you’re in need of cash. So far, I’ve tried the turkey, classic, pastrami, and garlic herb turkey. My fave is the turkey — you can’t go wrong with that. I’ll definitely be back to try the other items on their menu.

Their sandwiches are on point and goes with the theme of their name. You come in to this cozy little joint and greeted with a friendly smile and super fresh piping hot bread that he opens in front of you and you see the steam come out. That wonderful smell of freshly baked bread will drive a gourmand wild. You have to try, just do it. Also the line moves pretty fast. Been here about 6 times and it’s been the same every time.

Best sandwich I’ve ever had in my life. Best sandwich you’ll ever have in your life! Grab a sandwich from one of the friendliest family owned joints in town. Walk across the street and enjoy your lunch at the park. Prosciutto is my fave, hands down! Love this place.

Like others say, this is the best sandwiches you can get for $ 7 in the area. I ordered #5 Classic which comes with roasted beef, turkey, swiss cheese, lettuce, onions, tomato, and dijon mustard. I had«everything on it», which was an excellent call(The menu has been created for a reason! Why change it, right??) Besides, I don’t like making additions and/or subtractions. It just makes the waiting time longer, doesn’t it? Don’t be fooled by their appearance. Each ingredients they serve here are of excellent quality. They bake their own bread, too. I might add and say that their bread is super! It’s golden brown, crisp and just yummy. Food portion is pretty generous; I mean it served two(2) meals for me. One for lunch and the other half for my late night meal :-)

Once in a blue moon, my company caters lunch for us. There are whatever days when we get Panda Express, there’s slightly better days when we get Greek food, and then there are days when we get Freshly Baked, and people go batshit CRAZY. Can’t say much about the meat sandwiches since I’ve never had them, but if you wanna know more about those then you could just read the other 600 reviews. I’ve had tuna salad and cheese, both were good. That sourdough bread though, mmmmm. I try to resist eating the whole sandwich by putting half of it in the fridge, but I usually end up eating the rest before I leave for the day. Whoops. Been here a few times and the lunch line can be long, but moves quickly. Cash only!

If you like your sandwich bread to come Freshly Baked, look no further. Was headed to the area for some work related stuff and decided to give their spot a go. I ordered a pastrami sando(#7?) which they make for you right away, while you pay. Funnily enough they like to advertise how hot their loafs are by cutting it open and showing you the steam it emits. My sandwich was simple, but so good. Sometimes I think we are overcomplicating things, and if you like a simple sandwich, without too much fuss, this is your joint. Also I have to say that if you are a pickle aficionado, theirs are a must get. Snappy, crispy pickles that aren’t too sour, but jussst right. Seriously. We asked for extras and I’d even buy em buy the jar if they were offered.

Freshly Baked Eatery really stays true to their name. We were greeted by a man behind the counter waving a loaf of piping hot sourdough pulled right out of the oven – the steam that poofed out when he cut into it only further confirmed the freshness. Spicy Salami for me, Pastrami for the gf. Both very simple and very delicious. They stick to the basics and focus on the quality and freshness of ingredients. Plus the Pickle Slice they add to the side of each sandwich is divine… I even approached the counter for extra pickles, totally willing to throw down some $$$, and was stoked to receive a couple slices free of charge. A bag of chips and drink make it a meal. The friendly service makes it a four-star experience well worth a return visit.

This place is awesome! I’ve heard only great things about this place and finally made time to come here. The bread is definitely the best part. Its crispy and crunchy on the outside, but soft and fluffy on the inside. I got the chicken sandwich, no onions, yellow mustard instead of dijon. No complaints about the sandwich at all! *It’s cash only, but they have an ATM inside.

In short: A hidden gem in San Jose that will fulfill your lunch craving for an awesome deli sandwich(all at a super low price). Should you try it? Yes DEFINITELY Ambience: Small, not pretty. It’s inside another building. Around lunchtime, they seem to get busy but are very fast, and they’ll want your order right away when you walk in. However they have tables and chairs outside on a little patio(they aren’t very clean or nice, but they are fine). Service: Kind of rushed, but that meant I would be eating sooner! Location: A few metered street parking spots lining the immediate street. 3 Key Tips: 1) Order to-go or eat outside. 2) Their turkey sandwich is incredible. 3) Bring cash. Best Dish: Turkey sandwich. I think it’s #1 on the menu.

Located across from notorious St James Park, and inside a random office building, the Freshly Baked Eatery(FBE) has been serving up some of the best sandwiches in SJ for as long as I can remember. The FBE is a bit hard to find, if you’re a first-timer, but my tip is to look for the bright red umbrellas perched out front. The FBE is a rarity in today’s sandwich making world, in that not only do they make their own Sourdough fresh in-house, but they also roast their own meats right there, too! Who does that?!? FBE Do… Meat: All their meats are good, sliced thin and not overly-salted like deli meats can so often be. I’m partial to their Prosciutto, but I’ve yet to have a bad sammich here. I also recommend their«Special» which is a German/Polish/Yugoslavian-style house made sausage cooked in imported beer; it tasted like a slightly sweet Bratwurst, and the skin had that«snap» you want from a well-made sausage. Toppings: All FBE sandwiches come with: Mayo, Dijon Mustard, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Red Onions & Swiss Cheese. They like to keep it simple, and that’s the best way. Their veggies are always fresh and they don’t put on an obnoxious amount to where you feel like you’re eating a salad. Bread: This is definitely the #1 reason to come to FBE, and it’s for their fresh-baked, warm Sourdough Bread. I love the presentation the sandwich makers give as they crack open the bread to present you the steam rising out of the soft, moist interior: «Got some fresh-baked bread, for you,» they convey with a gleam in their eyes. The exterior has a nice crisp snap, and the interior is soft and fluffy without being overly-so – the perfect vehicle for some properly roasted meats and veggies. True enough, it’s not on the same level of Sourdough as say Boudin, but it gets the job done. Service & Ambiance– The sandwich makers are always fast, friendly and efficient at whipping up that sandwich at a breakneck speed. The building FBE is located in is a modern-looking(read boring), clean business building, but make sure to take some time to check out the surrounding buildings; old-timey SJ at its best. I’d recommend staying out of St James Park( ), as well. Nothing to see there but drug addicts and homeless. Value– All sandwiches are $ 8 which is about on the high-end of today’s average for a good high-quality sammich. They are Cash Only, but there is an ATM located inside if you happen to forget to grab some beforehand. Is FBE the«best» sandwich in the SJ area? Hmmm… Well, I can think of one, or two, that might top them on taste. However, they are a fixture in my «Top 5,» and most certainly highly, highly recommended for quick and terrific lunch in Downtown SJ.

Lunch in downtown San Jose can be daunting. There are too many options. Don’t worry about any of the others. Freshly Baked Eatery is what you want. No, it’s what you NEED. Located in the entrance of an office building you must prepare yourself for a line. It moves fast though. Soon the guy behind the counter will be showing you the fresh bread baked just for you. Choose your sandwich quickly, the patrons behind you are hungry! Bust out your pennies, this place doesn’t take credit cards(ugh). Sit down outside and eat your freshly baked sandwich at the tables near the church and observe downtown San Jose in all its glory.

Why haven’t I discovered this place sooner?! Amazing yet simple sandwiches with fresh warm bread. I can’t complain! Came here with a few coworkers who were raving this place. They claimed that they liked this place better than Ike’s Sandwiches and I knew I just had to try it after hearing that! I ordered the spicy salami sandwich and really loved the simplicity of it. The bread was so soft & fluffy. Each bite was just so heavenly and satisfying and I just wanted MORE. The portions here are also huge and great for leftovers. $ 7.50 for a gigantic sandwich that can last me literally 2 meals. The sandwich still tastes great as leftovers too! I agree with my coworkers that I actually like this place better than Ike’s Sandwiches. Nothing can beat a simple sandwich, especially if it’s done right. :) I’m definitely coming back to try everything else on their menu!

If your looking for something quick, Fresh Bake Eatery(FBE) is the spot. There’s also a location in North San Jose called California Sourdough, not sure if the same owner but the sandwiches are the same. FBE is know for there fresh sourdough bread, literally hot out of the oven. Bread is soft on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. My go to is #14, Turkey & Pastrami for $ 8. Pretty good size sandwich, checkout my photo for measurement. The service is quick. They have plenty of staff on hand. I usually come before noon to beat the lunch crowd and I’m in and out in no time. Street parking only, usually not an issue. Cash Only.
