This is a private club along the lines of an Elk’s or Moose Lodge. The difference is that these guys raise a lot more money for charity per person than any other organization with which I’m familiar. The San Jose Eagles, in particular, raise enough to take a couple hundred disadvantaged kids Christmas shopping every year. Everyone who is a member gets to escort a child on their shopping spree, so that’s cool to me. They also do dinners, dances and karaōke, in addition to having all the sporting events on several TV sets in their social room. I like the $ 5 Friday night dinners. Where else can you go and get a complete dinner for $ 5 and not have to wash the dishes or clean up the kitchen? I always have fun when I go there.

What kind of an establishment tells a potential customer«Don’t try sneaking alcohol in because we will catch you and make you pour it out» Add to that the fact that when our party was over they started handing out mops and said«Here you go, start cleaning up». There are plenty of people out there that will treat me as crappy and I don’t have to pay them money.

Last Friday sucked… you would think I would be happy about Friday’s…but last Friday sucked… it all started when I got the call from my husband: our dog killed a cat. Not on purpose, just you know, killed a cat. It is a long story and I was not there. Essentially, dog sees cat. Dog breaks off leash. Cat waps dog in face. Cat ends up in said dogs mouth. Dog shakes it a few times. Cat does not survive. Cat pronounced deceased at vet. Dog is sad and hides from mom when she gets home. Mom is pissed and needs a cocktail. Husband advises that there is a charity breast cancer event for someone he works with at the Eagles Lodge. Im in. Alf can sit in the corner and contemplate living with the grandparents. The Eagles Lodge is a nice little«man lodge» on Lincoln Ave, within spitting distance of Goosetown. Nice set up, clean bathrooms and a decent bar with damn good bartend-ressess. A few hours later I had dinner down, cocktail in hand, a few bids out on the silent auction and a drunk husband swaying to some 80’s music… nothing makes impending familial distress cease to exist for a few hours like a 10 peice band singing Tainted Love.
