Diane’s Tamales Factory wasn’t exactly open though the doors were open. i walked in and was directed to the food cart in front of the store. i turned around to see the store roped off. only 3 types tamales available: pork, chicken, and jalepenos. eats: pork and chicken tamales, one with slight spiciness @1.5 –no sauce given, didn’t really need it –masa not silky smooth so it’s not salvadorean –amiga quick, courteous helpful in helping me make my choices take outs: –Diana’s has atole, champurrado, other drinks in store but store not open. –there’s another commercial tamale maker in this commerical strip too. saw truck but storefront not open.

How is this spot not on Unilocal?!I’ve been coming to this tamale spot since I was a toddler. Definitely a classic East Side staple. Located in a ghetto little plaza, this place is definitely a hidden gem. They specialize in tamales and delicious traditional Mexican drinks such as atole and champurrado. Please note this place is CASHONLY. Though they are not open on Christmas day, we were able to walk up and get our tamales early Christmas Eve day. I got a dozen and a half of their delicious pork, green chile chicken, and sweet corn tamales. One of the workers was super nice and gave me a sample of their sweet pink tamales which was awesome. I also ordered a couple large atoles de arrroz which is like a hot version of horchata. Of course I couldn’t forget the crema which is the cream you drizzle over the tamales. For all of that it was super reasonable for under 40 bucks. The next time you need some bomb diggity tamales like grandma makes then go to Diana’s Tamales!
