Nice place, nice food. I don’t know why people like com tam Thien Huong alot, althought this place is better. Keep going here when i come to San Jose.

So sad to see this place go. It was quality com tam. It’s been replaced by a vegetarian restaurant.

********************* 1212 ********************** Com Tam, broken rice, is a Vietnamese dish made from rice with fractured rice grains. Tam refers to the broken rice grains, while com refers to cooked rice, a popular dish in southern Vietnam, in Saigon. It is usually served with grilled pork(either ribs or shredded) plus the Vietnamese dish BI, thinly shredded pork mixed with cooked and thinly shredded pork skin, over broken rice. The rice and meat are served with various greens and pickled vegetables, along with a prawn paste cake, steamed egg, and grilled prawns, and a small bowl of NUOCCHAM, a mixed fish sauce Here at Com Tam Thuan Kieu, located in the food court of Lion Plaza, this ghetto part of town, you probably don’t see much of any other races, but Vietnamese folks here. They serve decent COMTAM, CHEAPEAT, and quick service. For about $ 8, you will be served with a generous portion of food. You will be full and be happy afterward. Walking to this plaza is not your favorite thing to do. But it’s worth to try it once. CASHONLY! Note: Be careful to drive in this Lion Plaza, they drive in all over direction at once! Don’t tell me that I didn’t warn you!

Com Tam Thuan Kieu is located in the Lion Plaza food court. Overall the com tam is okay, the meats are usually mildly seasoned, the rice is cooked well, the vegetables are fresh, and the nuoc mam is way too strong for me. They always give a large amount of rice and not enough meat. For $ 7 – 8 bucks a plate, I was hoping for more meat.

When thinking of com tam, I don’t think many people think of this place. Located inside the lion plaza food court, I have to say this is one of my favorite com tam spots. Their fried shrimp cake is the best of all com tam restaurants! The bean curd outside is nice and crispy, not chewy or tough. Although it is a little bit pricier considering smaller portions, but I don’t eat too much anyway. I always like to order mine com tam with the bbq meat bone in, fried shrimp cake, and either chinese sausage or an egg. Service is fast, and the lady that I believe owns the place is super sweet! After many years of not coming here, she still recognizes me!

After an invigorating Vietnamese iced coffee at the local swanky shop, we needed to fill our bellies with some grub before getting back to work at the Hacker Dojo. Wanting to stay in the area, we walked across the street to the mall food court where we were presented with a number of restaurant choices, all of which were Vietnamese. I knew I wanted broken rice so made a beeline for the booth called, well, broken rice. Wanting to sample a little of everything, I ordered their most expensive plate which came with including fried chicken, grilled and shredded pork, sausage, omelet, and shrimp pastry, and possibly more that I’ve forgotten about already. The food was decent but also relatively expensive considering where we were. Considering there’s nothing but specialized Viet places here, you’d expect them all to hit the nail on the head. However, sometimes this just isn’t the case. There were many choices in this food court and I would probably try something else next time. It’s also not the cleanest dining area I’ve ever seen either so that’s something to keep in mind too. Food: 6⁄10 Service: 6⁄10 Price: $ Atmosphere: 5⁄10

This rice place is definitely okay in my book. Of course it isn’t the best, compared to Com Tam Dat Thanh and Com Tam Thien Huong. But the price is cheap $ 7.25 for a plate of Com tam thit nuong bi cha. It comes with soup too. I would totally come here if the other places were closed or if I was in the plaza.
