Extremely overpriced, food isn’t even good for the price you pay. You’re better off walking the 5 minutes to Togo and getting your money’s worth.

This place is kind of pricey. And, not so fresh. It’s seems the Chef may be better at catering for smaller crowds, seems to be overwhelmed by running a café. And there is a lot of employee turn over in the café.

First a positive — Yvette, who is the cook at the grill, is great! She has been there for as long as I can remember and she is very friendly and always gives great customer service. I have a few issues with Chef Mo’s Café: 1. Chef Mo’s cooking is hit and miss. Today I bought what she called her favorite dish, herbed chicken, not only had zero flavor, but halfway through the meal the chicken was pink. Since I have had food poisoning from her cooking before, I threw the rest out to be safe. 2. Her adult son, who is a paid employee in the café, is often seen wandering around eating and yelling at or fighting with various cafeteria appliances, E.g. the cash register. Once, on Taco Tuesday, I actually saw him holding a taco in his bare hand and adding condiments to his taco behind the counter. He then walked away eating the taco and leaving a trail of food. 3.This might be the worst — she is mean to her staff. She yells at them in front of customers often and she is known to be rude and unfriendly to customers too. Staff seems afraid to mess or be yelled at so it’s created a deer in the headlight effect with those who are there. But there is a high turn over rate, so no one stays long and since staff doesn’t stay, things never seem to be running smoothly or quickly.

Friendly service, convenient, breakfast sandwich fulfilling and more than enough to last me the morning at least. I would not recommend going here if you want to dine in a very high quality restaurant, but for the price, the quality was good and definitely a better choice than McDonald’s!

With all the fine eats in Japantown and downtown, this is more of a choice of convenience than anything else. Otherwise eating in the basement of the courthouse is not exactly a preference. Plus, I had an expired Amazon Local cert to use… just didn’t want my $$ to go to waste. Not sure why I bought a cert for an unknown eatery to begin with, but I tried to support new and local businesses. It’s a gamble sometimes. Had a sandwich, nothing special — bread + meat + condiments. The women who made the sandwich and at the cashier were friendly. As my cert was expired I only got to use what I’d paid. A woman carried a plate of food came out and told the cashier to grab one to try — perhaps the chef — and the cashier told her that she’d redeemed my cert. Without even acknowledging or looking at me, she curtly replied, «that’s expired!» «Only $ 10!» I’d paid $ 11, btw. Anyway, whatever issues merchants have with Amazon Local, I’m pretty sure no one had force them to deal with them to begin with. I’m also pretty sure that being nice or simply saying Hello to your customers would count as basic customer service. Didn’t feel welcomed and won’t be back.
