I like the Market side of Chavez, they consistently have great marinated quality meats for grilling /taco nights. Also the produce prices are far superior to your regular chain grocery store. Somethings that you’d expect to be cheaper like mexican beer are just not at all. Chavez is still our go to mexican market due to location. For the taqueria side, i’ve had good and as of recent a really strange experience. Their super burritos despite the price tag are pretty good. The carne asada and al pastor are great here, carne asada had a nice grill flavor. Last night my roomie and i both tried their burrito bowl, which is basically a huge taco salad. While he ordered I went grocery shopping so i didn’t see them make it, but apparently they threw a bunch of raw broccoli and cucumber in there! Who what, who huh? who does that? Maybe the lady making the bowls was like, this guy looks like he needs more veg in his life, cos seriously wth lol. My roomie said maybe they ran out of lettuce.. .. Hi, they operate out of a grocery store bruh. The burrito bowl woulda been pretty good if not for those mystery vegetables out of no where, they threw off the flavor. SO stick with the TACOs, marinated grilling meats, and produce, you’ll be fine. Side note for anyone looking to make Arepas at home, Chavez carries Harina blanca P.A.N. brand, just add hot water.

I love this Supermarket, because it is always clean, the workers are very friendly and always helpful, and everything is fresh.

The high prices do not match the quality of food. $ 10 for a regular burrito that they added a small amount of guacamole so now it’s a «super burrito». Don’t waste your time here unless your really hungry and got no other options.

Not a single organic item in the produce area. A bit disappointing. Plus they No longer have the free range eggs I used to come here for.

Can you say… perfectly marinated and cooked carne asada??? My friends brought me to this joint right before closing and thankfully the workers served us with smile despite the place having already started cleaning up the kitchen and food. I’m eternally grateful cause my oh my were we freaken starving. I followed my friends lead and decided on a carne asada burrito on a wheat tortilla.(Wheat tortilla is a plussss I’ve never been to a Mexican place that offers it.) I loved seeing my carne asada chopped up right in front of me. Good portion of meat to beans to ride ratio! But the ingredient that topped off that burrito was the hot salsa. Just wow. The first bite you think it’s just a typical hot sauce but you just wait. It sneaks up on you and it’s just awesome! It gets hotter and hotter as you keep munching on that burrito but you’ll keep going back to it. If you’re not into hot I’d lay off of it but it’s sure worth a try!

Ordered catering of chicken and carnitas with rice and beans for about 25 people. It was good. Everyone loved it. It was a little expensive so we bought salsa, chips, tortillas, etc elsewhere. But I would order the meats again!

Review is for the taqueria. Sadly they have gone corporate. Prices have jumped yet again and they charge for things that other taquerias around give for free. I have been a fan of the chain for quite a while but they have finally priced themselves off of my short list. $ 9.49 for a pretty average burrito is crazy. Taco plate went from $ 6.49 to $ 7.99 and I always leave hungry. $ 1.99 for a can of soda plus CRV is just too much for a taco stand. Good luck with your financial engineering. I hope you can keep the doors open.

This review is for the Taqueria. Came in awhile back was immediately welcomed. I decided to get the shrimp fajita burrito. I had to wait bout 5 mins for them to cook it, was alil annoyed but hey atleast I know it’ll be fresh! The shrimp fajita was amazing! Not sure what the shrimp was marinated in but came with sautéed veggies, rice, an I opted for guacamole(you got to!) an hot sauce(which it freakin was!) I’d rate this burrito 10⁄10!

Meh. I had liked this place but they’ve changed lately. Tonight suddenly I was charged $ 9.49 for my salad bowl — same price as the burrito bowl which comes in the huge tortilla shel. It’s always been $ 6.99 in the past — and I confirmed that with the line cook before ordering. Also my husband got swindled into a $ 0.75 up charge for cheese on his burrito(no clue what’s in the regular burrito $ 7.99 versus super burrito $ 9.49). Carne asada was really dry and overcooked, sadly.

I came here for burrito and tacos in 2 different occasions. The service was fast when it’s not busy but at dinner time it got a long line and the wait was more than 20 minutes. Burrito was average. For taco, I like the tacos d’volada better. They have free chips and salsa there.

Ordered 2 tacos carne asada and one al pastor. Tortillas were way under done. Asada was tasty but the pastor has changed for the worse. Worst part is that I paid 9.75 for three tiny tacos that were carefully put on to a scale to measure the weight. This place must have new management. Not what I remember from before. A picture of my tacos would have done justice and for that I am sorry I could not deliver.

I purchased a corn tortilla press(they sell two options, metal and wood), masa harina, pork shoulder(aka pork cushion), and multiple items from the salsa area. All the food I purchased was delicious. I made carnitas, corn tortillas, and tortilla chips. I used their salsa and mexican sour cream(which you are allowed to taste before purchase). I walked around a bit to see all the sweets they have, the large variety of meats, and nearly everything a home cook needs to make an authentic mexican meal. I can’t comment on their restaurant menu as i did not purchase from there. But the grocery store is great.

Chavez burrito bowl beats Chipotle bowl any day! No joke 4x more food! Although I am a fan of Chipotle bowls, Chavez is definitely more authentic and you get way more for your buck! I love that they use the same meat as they sell here in the market. Always fresh and if you want the same meat you can travel next door to buy it! Highly recommend this place if youre craving authentic mexican food if youre not wanting to travel far outside of south sj.

I only made a quick stop here to buy some tortilla chips that I deemed slightly better than typical grocery store type chips, but the market itself looks like it’s well kept and clean. The produce and meat sections in particular appeared to have high quality ingredients, though I obviously can’t say for certain since I didn’t purchase any meat or fruits/veggies. But all signs point to good from the looks of things, and sometimes presentation is everything. There’s also some prepared baked goods and desserts, and obviously some Mexican cooking staples that may be somewhat more difficult to come by in a typical grocery store. They also have an attached taqueria which Check Please Bay Area tells me is pretty good so I may have to try it sometime. Nice Mexican market to which I’d be happy to return anytime!

I have tried a lot of food from here and the only thing notable is the taco salad. Taco salad is cheap ~$ 7 for a huge taco salad that has rice, beans, avocado, salsa, salad on top, and good choice of meat.

Chavez Supermarket has the Taqueria in a separate unit next door. prices higher than hayward, no doubt related to the real estate it occupies.(taco, 2.49. burritos, 6.99) large pan dulce going for .80 each. buys: Glacier water.(.30/gal) self service drips: –security guard noticeable at front door never seen one in a mex market before. 3.5 stars

This is a great market to pick up marinated meats to grill at home for taco night– and if you get really lazy you can switch to the taqueria side and buy it already cooked. Pricing is decent and flavor is there for both. At the taqueria: Burritos are good. Tacos are good. Quesadillas are good. You can get a family meal with sides for a good price and have takeout that feels a bit more homey.

Carne asada, ceviche, guacamole, salsa, and more! Come to the supermarket side to the rear meat section for: fresh made shrimp ceviche, guacamole, salsas, and marinated raw meats(to cook at home). Go to the taqueria side for the cooked rice and the whole barbecued/grilled chicken(SO good! and less than $ 9 for the whole thing). The taqueria also serves ready to order plates and tacos and has various aguas frescas. The meats here are pretty decent. If you’re looking to throw together a Mexican food meal, come by for your main food staples as well as the fixings. The produce section is well organized and clean as the rest of the market. Nice employees too.
